Politics / Open Letter To President Muhammadu Buhari On Presidential Amnesty Programme by fidefineboy(m): 7:33pm On Sep 05, 2019
WHY PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI- LED APC GOVERNMENT WILL NEVER APPOINT A PDP MEMBER, DENNIS OTUARO, AS HEAD OF AMNESTY PROGRAMME

Mr. President, it has become imperative to draw your attention to the untoward activities by some officials in your government whose selfish interests were undermining your integrity and fight against corruption.

It has been speculated all around that a present Minister and former Governor in Niger Delta, in connivance with top and serving military officers are secretly projecting a known member of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Delta state, Mr. Dennis Otuaro, to be appointed as Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

Mr. President, it will interest you to know that at the just concluded Presidential election, this same Dennis Otuaro was the Coordinator, Youth Mobilization of the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organization in Gbaramatu Kingdom, and worked tirelessly for the PDP and Atiku Abubakar.

It is also speculated that the proposed appointment of Dennis Otuaro as Coordinator of Amnesty Programme was a planned compensation for Tompolo, an ex-militant that openly supported former Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 and Atiku Abubakar in 2019 respectively against the APC.

Mr. President, there are qualified and countless members of APC in Delta State that should be appointed the Coordinator of Amnesty Programme, and certainly not a die-hard and core PDP member, Dennis Otuaro, who is also the younger brother to Deputy Governor of Delta State, Kingsley Otuaro.

Sir, it is rumoured that Dennis Otuaro has had a secret meeting with your close appointees to push for his appointment as Head of Amnesty programme, and lots of hard currency suspected may have exchanged hands.

Mr. President, God forbid, your APC led government cannot compensate PDP members for working AGAINST you and the APC at the last Presidential election, and particularly, Dennis Otuaro, who was at the front of the campaign against you and APC in Gbaramatu Kingdom at the February presidential election.

Sir, appointing Dennis Otuaro, a core member of PDP in Delta State as Coordinator of Amnesty Programme can only strengthen the PDP to the detriment of APC, particularly now the APC in Delta State is planning toward taking over Delta State in 2023.

An adage says " a man who deliberately or ignorantly allows a snake into his house must be bitten by the snake", a core PDP member like Dennis Otuaro can never be appointed as Coordinator of Amnesty programme.

The said Dennis Otuaro may have some money to throw around and made attempts to compromise some officials close to you in the Villa, but one thing is sure, any of your officials in the Villa that will suggest to you to appoint Dennis Otuaro as Coordinator of Amnesty Programme must be arrested and investigated.

Mr. President, for your information, Dennis Otuaro is the younger brother of the PDP Deputy Governor in Delta State, Kingsley Otuaro. And again, Dennis Otuaro is a confidant and personal assistant to Tompolo, ex-militant leader.

Finally, if Dennis Otuaro wants to join the APC in Delta State, the party is open to accommodate him, but not after working against you and APC at the just concluded Presidential election in Gbaramatu kingdom, and in lest than five months he wants you to appoint him Coordinator of amnesty program, this is not possible and unacceptable.

Thank you Mr. President, we know you very well that you will never appoint Dennis Otuaro as Coordinator of Amnesty Programme, even if they decide to blow up oil facilities again in Delta State, which is their known trademark over the years in Niger Delta.

SIGNED:

Gen. Clement Goodday
President,

Crime / Police Corporal Shoot 13-year-old Boy In Bayelsa Over Mere Argument by fidefineboy(m): 6:38am On Oct 31, 2017
A police corporal attached to the Bayelsa state government has shot dead a 13-year-old Senior Secondary School (SSS) student , Mr. Tomizibe Johnson, over alleged mere argument along the Kpansia community in Yenagoa local government area of the state.
The trigger happy cop, identified as Corporal David Napoleon is attached to Department of Operations at the state police command, has been disarmed and detained ‎pending further investigation and trial.
The killing of the boy has, however, thrown the Kapansia community into a fit of anger with a protest march by the indigenes of the community against alleged rising cases of illegal arrest and killings of youths in the community.
The quick intervention of the chairman of the Yenagoa caretaker committee, Oforji Oboku, however, stopped the angry indigenes from abducting a traffic wanden over the killing of the youth.
While the authorities of the ‎state police command, through the office of the spokesperson, Asimin Butswat, claimed that the boy shot was 18 years old and the incident occurred while the accused police officer was being chased by irate youths of the community and suspected cultists.
The umbrella body of the Ijaw Youths, the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC), led by the Chairman of the Central Zone , Comrade Tare Porri, however faulted the claims of the police after consulting with the Investigating Officer and family of the deceased boy.
According to Tare Porri: “After consulting with the police and family of the deceased boy, it is clear that the deceased is 13 years old.
“He and the killer policeman were neighbours. ‎Eyewitnesses said the policeman shot twice from the kitchen to scare away some suspected cultists trying to gain entry.
“When he came out, he saw that the boys were still around. There was argument and when one of the boys called others on phone, the policeman shot at knee level and the bullet hit the deceased on the thigh.
” ‎Eyewitnesses and the investigating officer confirmed to us that the boy was not a cultist. He was just witnessing the argument.
“I call on the state commissioner of police to investigate the incident and come out with a clear report to avoid a reprisal attack against security agents. Reprisal can happen when such cases are not properly investigated. Kpansia is a safe community and must be made to remain so.”
Reacting to the development, the spokesman of the Bayelsa police command, Astimin Butswat, confirmed the incident and said ” the incident occurred at about 10pm on thursday after six armed cultists invaded the home of Corporal David Napoleaon at Kpansia area of the State capital.
“The suspected and armed cultists tore the window net and gain entrance into the house. The officer, who was home with his family, ran after the hoodlums and arrested one Stephen Ayama,Male,16 years and a member of the Green lander cult group .He was handed to the State Security outfit known as Door Akpo.
“When he was coming back to his house with a plan to move his family out to a safer place, some suspected cultists and indigenes of the community went after him to attack him .He ran but was chased by the irate youths. He turned and shot ‎at them below the knee level. The bullet hit one Tombozide Joseph,18 years,on the thigh. He was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre.”

Politics / Abandoned To Die:ex-militant Leaders Write STRONG Worded MEMO To Buhari by fidefineboy(m): 10:36am On Oct 30, 2017
Your Excellency, we convey to you warm greetings from the youths of the Niger Delta region in appreciating your efforts at building a NEW NIGERIA full of hope for our generation and the generations yet unborn.

We are not unmindful of the enormous task of re – writing our battered national history embarked upon by you since you took oath of office on May 29, 2015. Also, we hail your astuteness and doggedness at the national rebirth campaign being championed by you and few who believe in the course of our national value rebirth.

However, this medium becomes our choice for the obvious reasons of administrative bottlenecks and difficulties at getting our letters to your table, the near impossibility of reaching you by our EX-MILITANTS group who championed your campaign to becoming the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2015.

It has become very imperative to bring to your notice that since becoming our president on the crest of our collective efforts as Ex-militants in the Niger Delta region considering the risk associated with the mention of ‘Sai Buhari’ in that region at the time, close to 3 years, we are still being GROSSLY NEGLECTED.

Sir, you may recall the threats prior to your emergence in the region, the DOOR-TO-DOOR group to douse those tensions. This group was that which went through the nooks and crannies of the region declaring support and campaigning for you at the same time.

In that process, we incurred collateral damages in the death of our followers just as many others are languishing in prisons across the region as orchestrated by those we displaced to enthrone you as our PRESIDENT.
It is of note that while we took the ‘bullets’ for you in loyalty and national solidarity, those who fired bullets at us for your sake are ironically reaping the gains of MUHAMMADU BUHARI’S PRESIDENCY, no thanks to the “cash and carry” mode of recognition by those in the corridors of power.

Your integrity, credibility and uprightness attracted us to you as individuals and groups and to the best of our ability, we have been doing all humanly possible to support your government up till this moment particularly in ensuring peace and security in the creeks of the region.

In synergy we work with all security apparatus to bring down ill motivated attacks on our national patrimony at the expense of our lives and those of our followers with nothing to show for it yet no one from this administration is looking in our direction for patronage of any kind.

Celebrities / Ever Used The Bag ‘ghana-must-go,’ Read Where The Name Emanated From In 1983 by fidefineboy(m): 11:52am On Oct 06, 2017
An-eight-year old girl once asked her mother: “What is the difference between this bag and that one?” The mother answered: “This one is a travelling bag, and the second one is called Ghana-Must-Go bag.” The little girl thereafter responded: “But the two are used for travelling, so why are they different in name?” The mother oblivious of the reason for the different names could not provide an accurate answer to convince her daughter.

The inability of the girl’s mother to provide a suitable response indicates the fact that so many Nigerians use the name ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ but do not understand what brought about the name. And the name is commonly used among almost all classes of Nigerians but certainly without full knowledge of the facts surrounding the phrase ‘Ghana-Must-Go.’

This question would not be unusual, coming from any of the 21st century children, but for the few who asked they would have been given various answers. However, the uniquely checkered bag was so named because of its massive use during the exodus of illegal immigrants from Nigeria, a large percentage of whom were Ghanaians, with a host of other country citizens.

It was in late January 1983, when the Nigerian civilian President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, held a press conference and ordered all immigrants without the right papers to leave the country within a few weeks. In his statement, he declared: “If they don’t leave, they should be arrested and tried, and sent back to their homes. Illegal immigrants under normal circumstances, should not be given any notice whatsoever. If you break a law, then you have to pay for it.”

The statement sent people into panic, and with the rumours spreading that after the expiration of the deadline, civilians would be given the right to confront them, the over two million immigrants quickly packed their belongings into the first thing they could lay their hands on – the big and deep checkered silk bags, and headed west towards the Seme border the only exit to Ghana, just as the Israelites had done when they exited Egypt in a hurry.

The significant difference between the two situation would be that while the Israelites had been permitted to request whatever they wanted from the Egyptians who were in a hurry to see them leave after suffering the plagues, these illegal immigrants could not ask anything of the Nigerians whose territory they were leaving. In fact, a large number of them were said to have left their valuables and properties, especially those ones that are immobile. The only things they had access to were the huge and cheap bags.

It was indeed a painful exit for them considering that a large number of them had come to Nigeria during the 70s in search of greener pastures during the period of oil boom in Nigeria, and were being sent back to a home which they were not yet ready to return to. Trucks were loaded with humans and cargos and soldiers supervised the expulsion of the immigrants.

Out of over two million people, nearly one million were Ghanaians, and the rest were from a mix of other West African countries; thus it was considered an exodus of Ghanaians. Despite the loss of assets and properties which they could not take along, due to the scale of the movement, some people sustained various degrees of injuries, and some were reported to have died at the borders while trying to cross to Ghana through Benin Republic.

Many families were stranded at the borders. Because of traffic, the cars, taxies and overladen lorries were piled up bumper to bumper. There was stampede, and in the course of trying to cross through borders that were closed, and hopelessly choked with human beings, properties and vehicles, some returning refugees were knocked off the back of packed lorries.

One of the survivor Ghanaians recalled painfully in an interview recently: “We had these overhead bridges. You could see on top of the bridges some blood scattered all over. Many were coming during the night. The trucks were filled with personal belongings, so there were sittings at the edges of the trucks and some of them would be hit in the head against the overhead bridges. A lot of people died on the road to Ghana.”

However, for those who got to their destinations, they received a warm welcome and were reabsorbed into their communities. While the experience was enough for some to swear off Nigeria completely, some others still found a way to return to Nigeria in the years that followed, as there had to be another repatriation a couple of years after, though on a smaller scale. But within a year tens of thousands had returned to Nigeria.

A number of reports hinted that it could possibly be a revenge move, since the Ghanaian government under President Kofi Abrefa Busia had enacted the Aliens Compliance Order, and immigrants, mostly Nigerian, had been expelled from the country. In that case, the foreigners were given two weeks to obtain and be in possession of residence permit or leave the country, and about 20,000 to 500,000 Nigerians were expelled within a period of three months. So, if it had truly been a revenge, it was a massive one.

Several reasons were linked to this action on the path of the government. Some say that there were complaints that the Ghanaians had taken over the labour work force in the country and Nigerians were forced to compete with them in the labour market- something similar to the claims being made in South Africa resulting to the Xenophobic attacks on Nigerians. The collapse of the oil boom brought unexpected economic hardship, and since no one would take the blame, the foreigners became the scapegoat and the Nigerian government was actually hard on them.

Even though the bag in question was actually being made in Europe and used in other countries, the name was given more out of ridicule by Nigerians who felt that the exit of their sponging neighbours would guarantee them access to a paradise-like life with jobs and other necessities at their beck and call.

However, by late 1983, the situation on ground showed that there had to be another reason for the economic crisis as things were still very much the same. The sort of menial jobs the foreigners were doing in Nigeria could not easily be filled by Nigerians who were not used to those kind of work. Also, some of the foreigners were actually entrepreneurs who had taken advantage of the enabling environment to do business. Their absence automatically put paid to such businesses and no attempt was being made by Nigerians to resurrect them.

On December 31, 1983, the then General Muhammadu Buhari took over power through a coup citing the massive corruption that existed in the government as the cause of the economic downturn. By then, a good number of the foreigners had already sneaked their way back into Nigeria due to their inability to readapt to their home environment.

Up till today, this bag, which has now been produced in various colours and sizes, is still identified by that name, Ghana-must-go, both in Ghana and Nigeria. In reverse humour, it was reported recently that there is a casual handbag in the Republic of Ghana derisively tagged “Nigerians are coming.” The bag is a mini version of the sack known in Nigeria as “Ghana must go,” and derived its name from the shift in the flow of migrants which see Nigerians trooping to Ghana for investment opportunities.

Politics / Shame, Disgrace As DSIEC Nominees Disappoint Delta Lawmakers by fidefineboy(m): 8:23pm On Sep 20, 2017
An atmosphere of uncertainty engulfed the Delta state House of Assembly on Wednesday as the alleged chairmanship nominee of a former governor in the state, Chief James Onanefe Ibori for the Delta state independent electoral commission, could not mention, to the surprise of all, the member representing his constituency in the state house of assembly.
The commission chairman designate, Barrister Mike Ogbodu, a kinsman of Ibori, among others who would serve as commissioners in the agency were quizzed by members of the house almost met brick walls after several sections.
Although their appointments were confirmed after a tensed session of corrections by the Speaker, Sheriff Oborevwori, after being taken through several classroom sessions at the chambers, by house members and a plea by the leader of the house, Tim Owhefere, to confirm their appointments.
The nominees, who had earlier submitted copies of their Curriculum Vitae to the house for assessment, almost met a brick wall when they were asked to introduce themselves.
Chairman designate of the commission, Barr Ogbodu, while introducing himself as a High Chief and a retired police commissioner, failed to submit correctly the name of his Ethiope west representative in the house.
A rowdy session erupted quickly from beneath the hallowed chambers up to the gallery where a deafening murmuring almost disrupted the screening process boldly mistook Ethiope east representative member for his.
It took Oborevwori to act swiftly to arrest the situation by schooling Chief Ogbodu that his representative in the House is Hon. Ehriatake Ibori and not Hon. Evance Ivwurie who represents Ethiope East as earlier answered.
The drama of the day was thought to have been put off when suddenly the second nominee from Ika North East, Mr. Fredrick Oduje Ulakpa introduced himself with an erroneous sentence which set the chambers back to a comic session,“My name are”!
Speaker Oborevwori who was visibly displeased with the failure on the side of the nominee, again, schooled him on the proper way of introducing one’s name.
The other nominees quickly learnt from the errors of the duo and scaled passed the introductory session as Hon. Anthony Elekeokwuri, Hon. Shola Daibo and Hon. Samuel Mariere further took turns to quiz them on questions bordering on the word ‘being independent’ and ‘free, credible and fair election’, and on how they intend to improve on the conduct of local government elections in the state.
House Leader, Hon. Tim Owhefere prayed the members of the house to grant the nominees the rare honour of taking a bow, reason that they were able to professionally answer the questions thrown at them which showed that they are fully prepared for the task ahead.
“I think the essence of the questioning was to find out their mindset towards the job they are being prepared for and what struck my attention is that they seem to understand that to do the Job for which they are nominated, they have to be unbiased,” Owhefere stated.
The speaker gave a nod to the prayer thus cutting loose the appointees from further interrogations by some members who seem agitated to ask more questions. Their confirmation was subsequently adopted by the House.
With this confirmation, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa will now approve the appointments of Chief Mike Ogbodu as Chairman, DSIEC board with Mr. Fredrick Oduje Ulakpa, Mr. Friday Edmund Seimode, Mr. James Eruorhevwameme Umukoro, Mr. Gregory Chukwuma Edeme, Light Oritseweyinmi Diden and Mrs Yvonne Ovuevo Wagbatsoma as members.

Romance / Stop That Wedding! See BIG Reason You Must Go For Genotype Test Before Marriage by fidefineboy(m): 6:06pm On Sep 20, 2017
Until the recent times when the grave consequences attending the total neglect of genotype started taking a worrisome dimension, true love, which is considered by all as a rare and only God- given virtue, would have been all that is required for a couple to walk down the aisle to tie the nuptial nut.
While love stands as a pivotal constituent in seeking future life partners, the onus lies on Christian organizations to verify the compatibility of the intending couples before proclaiming them husbands and wives. This is so because as soon as the proclamation is made, the spiritual law of what God has joined together, let no man put asunder takes immediate effect.
But with the high rate of awareness regarding the social implication and the attendant trauma of a church wedding incompatible couples, there seems to be a great contention between love and the role of genotype in the marriage process.
Prior to this era which is witnessing numerous breakthroughs in medical science, many sickle cell related diseases were being interpreted as spiritual manipulations. This was in the days when civilization was yet to kick humanity in the face. Marriages were being contracted merely on erotic love and most times with parental recommendations without recourse to ascertaining the genotype of both couples.
However, with the advent of science and the continuous quest for knowledge and the cause and effect of certain ailments, people and religious leaders are gradually becoming aware and some are putting stringent laws to verify the genotype of intending couples before walking them down the aisle and making the pronouncement “I do.” Although the final say rests squarely on the intending couples, most Christian organizations have continuously advised incompatible couples against tying the nuptial nut.
The advice has become necessary considering the trauma most families have found themselves as a result of ignorance or neglect of the life time consequence of the importance of ascertaining genotype before proclaiming “I do”. With the knowledge of this, most churches have made it compulsory for all intending couples to go for medical test, to ascertain their compatibility before taking them to the altar.
In sharp contrast to what obtained in the early times of Christianity where many place less emphasis on medical issues in terms of marriage, many married out of love and faith without recourse to medical checkup. But it began to dawn on them when they began bearing children who are sicklers, which resulted to them wasting huge amount of money on drugs and other medications to keep those children alive.
This is even more painful where in some communities, instead of tracing the cause of the children’s death to medical grounds and their genotype, many pour venom on relations, describing them as witches and the cause of their children’s death. In some societies, husbands and wives have continued to trade blame on each other as the cause of their children’s death. On most occasions, the wives usually bear the brunt and the consequence is usually devastating.
Today, the tide has changed, going by the experience of others as well as close relations, the fear of bearing a sickler and living in perpetual torture has become the beginning of wisdom. However, while many are getting aware of the importance of ascertaining genotype before proceeding in the marriage process, many intending Christian couples have continued to ask this heart searching question: what takes pre-eminence, is it love, the leading of the Holy Spirit or genotype?
While these questions cannot be explicitly answered without the input of the intending couples, the fact remains that God is not the author of confusion. This is so as God cannot allow his children to marry and bear children that would give them sorrow and die when they are mostly needed.
This is true as most SS children die most times between the age of 20 and 30. This is when they must have graduated from the higher institutions and set to fend for their parents and contribute to society. Even before getting to this age, a lot of money must have been spent on drugs to prolong their lives.
While some Christian organisations are opposed to joining couples who are not compatible genotype wise, others merely give advice and abandon the intending couples to state their ground and when they decide to go ahead either relegating the role of genotype to the background or that a miracle would happen, the church goes ahead and joins them as husband and wife.
For Rev Dickson Ozah, General Overseer of Faith Foundation, Obiaruku in Delta state, the contraction of any marriage union should be based on the conviction of the intending couples. Ozah explained that although sickle cell disease is a reality, some churches only give advice to those who are not compatible but cannot prevent them from getting married. “What most ministries with a few exceptions do is to sensitize such couples on the looming consequences that might surface if they go on with the marriage, if they decide to go on it is their choice,” he said.
For some, what is most important in marriage is love. This school of thought is of the view that love supersedes genotype tracing their argument to the Bible reference which says: “many waters cannot quench love.” To them, when the heart has been linked together and the emotions are connected, it will be too impossible to separate as a result of genotype incompatibility. As such many are of the view that it would rather be too costly to forgo love, not even in the instance of genotype incompatibility.
A civil servant who does not want his name in print is of the opinion that what really matters in marriage is love and not genotype. To her, love rules the heart and takes precedence in the decision of who to marry. She maintained that when love is high and the affections are intact, genotype cannot be an excuse to stop them from marrying.
In Christendom where faith is one of the determining virtues for good Christian practice and life style, some believe that irrespective of genotype incompatibility, one has to take a step of faith. Pastor John Efajemue of Christian Assembly, Kwale, Ndokwa West local government area of Delta state, said over the years as a marriage counselor, the issue of genotype incompatibility had not surfaced in his ministry. He, however, added that faith, love and divine direction should be the main determinant of marriage.
According to him: “Many of us did not go through any genotype test, we depended on faith and the leading of the Holy Spirit. These days, my fear is that many are walking according to the dictates of their flesh and so it is very difficult to determine how many are very sure of God’s leading.’’
Irrespective of the divergent views on the role of genotype in marriage, there is a high turnout among couples for genotype test before marriage. Investigation in hospitals reveal that there has been an increase in the rate in which people turnout for genotype test. According to a medical lab scientist at the Federal medical centre, Asaba, Delta state, Mr. Anthony Iyasele: “Before now the statistics of people living with the disease was very high but with the awareness that is going on and the way people are getting educated, on a daily basis, between 20 and 25 people turnout for genotype test.”
Iyasele said due to the awareness level, many churches are sending their people to carryout genotype test before proceeding on the marriage process. He added that once intending couples are discovered not to be compatible, they are advised continuing the marriage process. He, however, noted that lab scientists do not have power to compel couples who are not compatible not to marry if they so wish.
But one challenge he identified is that many couples go for genotype test when they are through with their marriage plans. “Some will be in their courtship before coming for coming for test while others come a week to the wedding, so, it is impossible to advise such to abort the marriage process,” he said. However, he said irrespective of their love for each other, when couples are discovered to be incompatible, they must play their roles as medical personnel.
On the tragedies that trail incompatible partners in their homes, Iyasele said it is a painful experience that no family should ever pray top go through. “I must say that if an incompatible couple gives birth to a baby that is a sickler, that child is born into crisis. The crisis affects both the parents and the child. In the office, the parents are not comfortable because they must be thinking of the welfare of the child.
“Whenever the child goes into admission in the hospital, you pay heavily of the bills. As for the child he cannot do what other children can do. The child normally experiences stunted growth. So, it is advisable the trauma is prevented than planning to manage it,” he advised.
Again, he said the children that are ss are never physically fit for any exercise. Moreover, no man will want to marry a girl who is a sickler because he knows that such marriage will cost him his life.” For those who are already trapped, he said they have no choice but to manage the trauma.
According to Gregor Mendel, the scientist who did research on genotype and principles of inheritance, incompatible couple risks the danger of producing one sickle cell patient in every of four children they bear. But as the principles of Mendel are based on probability, there is the likelihood that the couple could produce all children as sickle cell patients.
Sickle cell anemia is a genetic disorder that cuts across all races and as of today, it ranks amongst the topmost challenges of modern medicine because there is yet no clear remedy to menace. It is a problem inherent within the blood system, the basis and features of which cannot be expounded within the context of this report. The fact that the victims of this genetic disorder suffer as a result of the ignorance or selfishness of their parents makes it quite pathetic.
Anyone who has ever been a witness to the great anguish that a sickler goes through during the period of crisis will definitely not need the eloquence of a preacher before reconsidering the decision of going into marriage if both partners are incompatible. The fact remains that many have diverse views over this issue, Christians should remember that love, faith and the leading of the Holy Spirit are essential in marriage, but sickle cell anemia is a bitter experience that has plagued many families and led to the death of many innocent but promising children.

Politics / Breaking: DSS Raids Asaba Vendors, Confiscates Biafra Newspapers by fidefineboy(m): 4:20pm On Sep 19, 2017
Men of the Department of Security Services (DSS) on Tuesday raided newspaper vendors in Asaba, Delta state capital, confiscating all newspapers that are of Biafra origin and propagating Biafra republic.
All major newspaper centres were raided in the city, specifically those along Ibusa road, the popular Nnebisi road and some opposite the Westend Mixed Secondary in Asaba.
The officials did not state their reasons for the raid but onlookers said the raid might not be unconnected with the proscription of Independent People of Biafra, hence it becomes necessary to stamp out every inscription of Biafra form the nation.
One of the vendors told Emeraldng.com that all the papers bearing Biafra in her stand were confiscated by the DSS who gave no reason for their action and went away with them.
Another vendor by the United Bank of Africa, near Ibusa junction, was most hit as he was lucky to have escaped following the presence of the DSS officials.
He told Emeraldng.com that as soon as he saw the officials, he abandoned all his papers, even the national dailies, including PUNCH, Nation Vanguard and others and fled from the presence of the officials.
He explained that if he had not fled from their presence, he would have been arrested by the officials.
He said every newspaper vendor around the area and the IPOB youths around took to their heels as they usually gather round the vendors stand to read daily newspapers where they argue over issues of Biafra and Nigeria.
“It wasn’t a small thing. I had to run away when I saw them. I left all my papers and escaped. They were even calling me to come but people around told me not to go to them that they may arrest me. Everybody was afraid,” the vendor who would not want his name mentioned said.
Among the papers confiscated are Biafra Times, Biafra Star and other papers that are specifically for the promotion of Biafra propaganda in Nigeria.

Literature / Re: How African Feminism Changed The World by fidefineboy(m): 1:58pm On Mar 13, 2017
magazineguy:
African women have also been pioneering in business. Aspiring young female entrepreneurs today have several role models they can follow such as Ghana’s Esther Ocloo, who pursued the idea of formalising local women’s credit associations and became a founding member of one of the first microcredit banks, Women’s Worlds Banking, in 1979.

According to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, African countries have almost equal numbers of men and women either actively involved in business start-ups or in the phase of starting a new firm. And in countries such as Ghana, Nigeria and Zambia, women are reportedly more likely to be entrepreneurs than men.

These changes are evident not only at the grassroots but, to an extent, at the highest levels. Female representation in boardrooms worldwide is very poor, but Africa’s rate of 14.4% is only slightly behind Europe (18%) and the US (17%), and ahead of Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.

Finally, a younger generation of activists is emerging throughout Africa today and redefining feminism from an African perspective. One sees this not only in the work of the African Feminist Forum, which first met in 2006, but also in the work of figures such as novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie who issued a clarion call to women in her video We Should All be Feminist, adapted from her 2013 Ted Talk, in which she explores what it means to be an African feminist. Her book length essay by the same title is found on bookshelves in major cities around the world, and the Swedish Women’s Lobby has given it to every 16-year-old in Sweden to help them think about gender equality.

Feminist discourse meanwhile has become commonplace throughout the continent on websites, blogs, journals, and social media. New feminist novels like Dust by Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor (Kenya), Kintu by Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi (Uganda), and Americanah by Adichie (Nigeria) have offered new ways of imagining women.

There are clearly still enormous hurdles for African feminists to overcome in fighting for gender equality. But as they have over the past half a century, Africa’s women activists of today are reshaping not only African feminist agendas in tackling these challenges, but global ones as well.
