Culture / Re: The Ika People{igbanke}. by fidelis848: 4:23pm On May 26, 2010
Every Ika descendant that knows his/her roots will tell you that our ancestors migrated from the Benin Empire at about 900 years ago (1100 AD) and move south-eastward to Ika land and then inter-married with the Ibos from aniocha, oshimili and kwale region so thats the reason for the mixed cultural heritage of the Ikas. Igwe festival is celebrated in most part of Ika land and is the same with the binis. Food stuffs like plantain called Ogede, beans (ewa) all derived from the benin kingdom. Besides that, the crowning of any king (obi) in Ika land is supersided and recognised by the Oba of Benin or any of his delegates sent on his behalf. So please people get it right.
