NYSC › NYSC To Get New Uniform, Graduation Ceremony As FEC Approves Reform by Fika01(op): 4:45am On Jun 30

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a comprehensive reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), marking the first holistic review of the scheme since its establishment 53 years ago.

The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, disclosed the development on Monday in a post on his X handle, describing the approval as a major milestone in repositioning the NYSC for the future.

According to the minister, the reforms are designed to preserve the scheme’s legacy of promoting national unity while transforming it into a platform that equips young Nigerians with the skills, experience and opportunities needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

“For over five decades, the NYSC has remained a powerful symbol of national unity and service. Today, we have taken a bold step to preserve that legacy while preparing it for the future,” Olawande said.

He explained that the approved reforms would reposition the NYSC as a skills-driven, productivity-focused and youth-empowering institution aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of building a $1 trillion economy.

Among the key reforms approved by the council are a technology-driven call-up process, risk-sensitive deployment to enhance the safety of corps members, and a redesigned six-week orientation programme with greater emphasis on leadership, entrepreneurship, digital skills and specialised career streams.

The reforms also introduce skills-based primary assignments that align with corps members’ academic backgrounds and career aspirations, as well as a new governance structure featuring civilian operational leadership while the military continues to provide security support.

In addition, the Federal Government approved improved orientation camp standards through a national grading and certification system, alongside the introduction of a graduation ceremony to replace the traditional Passing Out Parade. A redesigned NYSC uniform reflecting professionalism and national pride was also approved.

Olawande said the reform process began in 2025 through an extensive multi-stakeholder review involving the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, the Federal Ministry of Education and the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination.

He added that the Federal Executive Council had directed the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development to commence amendments to the NYSC Act and its regulations to provide the necessary legal framework for implementing the reforms.

Describing the development as an investment in Nigeria’s future, the minister said the reforms would strengthen the NYSC’s relevance in national development.

Some of the landmark reforms include:
*A technology-driven call-up process.
*Risk-sensitive deployment to better protect corps members.
*A redesigned six-week orientation programme with stronger focus on leadership, entrepreneurship, digital skills and specialised career streams.
"Skills-based primary assignments aligned with academic background and career pathways.
*Modern governance with civilian operational leadership while the military continues to provide security support.
*Improved camp standards through a national grading and certification system.
*A new graduation ceremony to replace Passing Out Parade, and redesigned NYSC uniform that reflect professionalism and national pride.

RSA 0-1 CAN: South Africa Crash Out Of 2026 World Cup
TheFalse96 hours ago

According to a report by FIFA's official website on Sunday, June 28, 2026, South Africa's impressive 2026 FIFA World Cup journey came to an end after a painful 1-0 defeat to Canada in the Round of 32. The match looked set to head into extra time before Stephen Eustaquio produced a late moment of quality to send the Canadians through.

Bafana Bafana started the game with confidence and almost took an early lead when Teboho Mokoena tested Maxime Crépeau from long range in the sixth minute. Canada responded by creating several chances of their own, but Ronwen Williams stood firm with a series of excellent saves to keep the score level. He denied Derek Cornelius, Tani Oluwaseyi, and Tajon Buchanan during an entertaining first half.

The second half followed a similar pattern as both teams searched for the breakthrough. Oswin Appollis came close twice for South Africa with powerful efforts from outside the box, while Canada continued to threaten through Jonathan David and Oluwaseyi. Williams once again proved why he is one of Africa's best goalkeepers by making another brilliant save to stop Jonathan David after a dangerous attack.

Canada introduced Alphonso Davies midway through the second half, and his pace immediately stretched the South African defence. Although Bafana Bafana continued to fight until the closing stages, they struggled to create a clear scoring chance against Canada's organized back line.

The decisive moment finally arrived in the second minute of added time when Stephen Eustaquio collected the ball outside the penalty area and fired a low shot into the bottom corner beyond Williams. South Africa pushed forward in the remaining minutes but could not find an equaliser before the final whistle.

The result brings South Africa's memorable World Cup campaign to an end as Bafana Bafana crash out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Canada, on the other hand, have moved to the last 16 with confidence after keeping a clean sheet and scoring a dramatic late winner.

Romance › Is Cohabitation Essential, Advisable Or Avoided Before Marriage? by Fika01(op): 5:30am On Jun 29
https://shorturl.at/kIBzR
I've been in rooms where cohabitation have been discussed as to prioritize intimacy before marriage.

Most people claimed that two people with little or no prior experience might adjust more easily to married life. However, they said those with previous experience often have different expectations and preferences.

“That is why I do not believe people should not live together before marriage. Two people getting married without strong expectations may cope, but for others, we all have our personal desires and preferences,” someone quoted .

A popular actress also spoke about cohabitation. She said living together is about more than sharing house chores. According to her, emotional and physical compatibility is one of the most important factors that should not be ignored.

Another fellow added that understanding compatibility before marriage can help couples know if they can build a long-term life together.

“The purpose of living together goes beyond cooking and keeping the home. Intimacy ranks very high on the list,” was his response when asked the priority of living together.

“Know your partner well so you understand what you are committing to for life. I recommend checking for compatibility before making that final decision,” he added.
The irony is that While some people think this way, others think the exact opposite, lol
What do you think?

Politics › Remi Tinubu Explains Why She Recommended Akara, Roasted Corn Business Amid Backl by Fika01(op): 8:19pm On Jun 27
https://shorturl.at/FJ9s3
According to a report by The Punch on Friday, June 26, 2026, Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has come under intense criticism on social media after encouraging Nigerians to consider small-scale businesses such as selling akara, roasted corn and kuli-kuli as a way of earning a living.

The comments were made while she addressed State House Correspondents after the second-quarter meeting of the Renewed Hope Initiative with the wives of state governors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Explaining the objective of the programme, the First Lady said beneficiaries received grants rather than loans to help them establish small businesses with little startup capital.

"We're trying to give hope, and to start akara business doesn't take a lot of money. To start roasting corn, or somebody even said kuli-kuli doesn't take much. We didn't give them a loan; we gave it to them as a grant," she said.

Tinubu also highlighted other interventions carried out through the Renewed Hope Initiative, revealing that she donated N2 billion to fight tuberculosis, N1 billion for breast cancer programmes and N500 million to combat malnutrition.

She added that the initiative has also supported education, agriculture, ICT training and social investment projects.

However, her remarks triggered mixed reactions online. While several Nigerians accused the First Lady of being out of touch with the country's economic realities, others argued that there is dignity in honest labour and defended her comments.

Some critics maintained that the issue was not the businesses she mentioned but the timing of the advice, saying many Nigerians are seeking solutions to rising living costs, unemployment and economic hardship.

Despite the criticism, Tinubu urged Nigerians not to lose hope, insisting that the Renewed Hope Initiative remains committed to supporting vulnerable citizens through practical empowerment programmes.
