OYO WARNS TROUBLE MAKERS TO STEER CLEAR OF LG ELECTIONS, CONGRESSES Oyo State Government has warned groups and individuals against activities capable of disrupting Saturday’s local government election and party congresses, saying that security operatives have been put on red alert to ensure peaceful conduct of both exercises. A statement by the Executive Assistant, Political to the Governor, Dr. Morohunkola Thomas, on Thursday, said that the warning became necessary following the fresh plans by dissident groups and their sympathisers within the All progressives Congress to cause mayhem on Saturday. Following the scuttling of the initial plans of the group to burn down the state secretariat of the APC, he said that intelligence revealed that they are restrategising to disrupt the peace of the land and render the LG election and congresses inconclusive. The government said that necessary security arrangements have been put in place to protect lives and property and to ensure that residents exercise their franchise without let or hindrance. According to him, latest intelligence has revealed that the members of the Unity Forum are planning to use their thugs to unleash terror on innocent electorate and loyal members of the APC. He said that the government appealed to all citizens, including the self-styled Unity Forum to embrace peace and allow the elections to hold in a peaceful atmosphere in the overall interest of the state and sanctity of democracy. “The government has put security operatives on red alert to ensure the safety of election officials and voters. It has therefore become necessary to warn groups and individuals bent on fomenting trouble on Saturday to have a rethink. “The law of the land is no respecter of anybody, no matter his or her position in the society. As leaders in their own right, those crying blue murder should rise above pettiness and join hands with the government and our great party. “The government is using this opportunity to caution all political parties, including APC and their followers against any act of violence before, during and after the local government election and party congresses. The full weight of the law will be visited on troublemakers without discrimination. “The government wishes to tell the public that an earlier interim injunction stopping the LG election had been vacated by a Federal High Court, Ibadan, thus clearing obstacles before the conduct of the election.” |

DynasTee:NOPE! Dem give official release like that o! OYSIEC RELEASE The attention of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission has been drawn to a news item of an interim order by the Federal High Court in Ibadan said to have stopped the scheduled Local Council elections fixed for 12th May 2018. While we are yet to be formally served with any such order. Our information confirms that the said court's order did not stop the scheduled elections and was only directed at using the newly delineated wards for the scheduled elections by OYSIEC. Elections are therefore not, restrained from proceeding as scheduled in all the local governments and LCDAs. Meanwhile it should be noted that the extant provisions of section 9(1) of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission law, cap 154, Laws of Oyo State 2000 which states that "no interim, interlocutory or any other order, decision or judgment by any court or tribunal before or after the commencement of this law in respect of any intra-party, or inter party dispute, or any other proceedings or matter pertaining to an election under this law, shall affect the timing of an election under this law". This extant law remains valid and binding on us all. -- Cosmas Oni Media Officer, OYSIEC 08034038276 |

Seldom will you find a Nigerian policeman with endearing love to get thoroughly educated as DPO Amah Daniel. Apart from graduating with honours in Bsc.Sociology from the Bayero University, Kano, DPO Daniel moved further to get a Distinction in Crime Management Prevention and Control at the Masters level from the same university. He didn't stop there as he moved to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria to get another Masters degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy; and more intriguingly, he's currently enrolled for another Masters degree in Public Policy and Administration from ABU. This is why his refinement isn't farfetched. |
Most Nigerians have this notion of infamy about the police force in the country, and while it isn't solely the people's fault why this is so considering different tales of woe and inefficiency that stains , it is quite imperative to ensure that we announce and celebrate any officer of the Nigerian police who do well enough to clear our doubts. This is where the story of Amah Daniel, the youngest Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Nigeria comes in to massively impress. He is a police officer with a mark of distinction and we should celebrate him. Amah Daniel is the DPO of the Bompai Police Station, in Nassarawa Kano, Kano state, where under his watch has been adjudged the best Best Police Station in Nigeria. The impressive tales of efficiency, professionalism and good public relations that have trailed Amah Daniel's touch at Bompai have been so much that it attracted the visit of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, on an assessment tour today, the 5th of December, 2016. As quite expected, the assessment tour became a commendation tour, as the IGP had lofty words to describe all he saw at the police station in terms of productivity and efficiency. IGP gave high ratings to Daniel and his Bompai team in terms of neatness, crime response and solving rate, public relations, promptness, professionalism, officers' demeanor to work, and even IT savvy. In his words, "This is probably the neatest, most efficient and prompt-servicing police station we have in the police force at the moment. I am impressed at all I'm seeing here, it confirms what we've been hearing about the leadership abilities of Amah Daniel. I commend him hugely, IGP Ibrahim said. "He is a young and very promising and professional police officer whose leadership qualities have clearly robbed off his officers", he added. DPO Amah Daniel is particularly revered across board for his staunch anti-corruption stamce, and in his tenure, the Bompai area has recorded the lowest crime rates in a long while, and in tandem with the Federal government's drive to lead by example, DPO Daniel has set a "Change Begins With Me" campaign arm at his station to champion how policemen should be seen as exemplars of such noble drive. This particularly wowed the IGP. In his mid 30s, DPO Amah Daniel is definitely a breathe of fresh air out of the Nigerian police force, and he should be the face of an efficient, dependable and trustworthy police force, even now that the country aimed at achieving true change at all fronts. Kudos to DPO Amah Daniel, we hope and believe all police leaders and officers would emulate your efficient drive.

THE post-primary crisis in the Ondo State All progressives Congress (APC) deepened yesterday as a governorship aspirant, Dr. Olusegun Abraham, urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to declare him winner of the shadow poll. The Ikare-Akoko-born industrialist-turned politician said if the votes were recounted after voiding the ineligible votes, he would have scored the highest number of votes. Abraham came second in the disputed primary, scoring 635 votes. The winner of the controversial primary, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), scored 669. Abraham and two other aspirants, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice and Chief Olusola Oke, rejected the results, citing irregularities and distortion of the delegates’ list. In their petitions to the Primary Appeal Committee, they called for nullification of the results and a fresh exercise. But Abraham reviewed his position on the primary, saying he won the shadow poll. He said in a statement made in Lagos that if the exercise was not marred by malpractices, he would have defeated other contestants with a wide margin. The aspirant said: “I am making a new appeal to declare me the winner of the September 3 primary. This should be the position, following a conscientious recalculation and recounting of the votes after voiding the ineligible votes. The NWC should consider this option at the expense of a fresh primary.” Abraham maintained that 157 fake delegates were injected into the delegates’ list in 12 of the 18 local governments. He said if the votes of 54 delegates loyal to him in the three local government of Akoko North West (13), Akoko North East (26) and Idanre (15), who were disenfranchised and substituted with fake delegates, were added to his score (635), after the fake and substituted ones have been removed from Akeredolu’s votes, he will emerge with the highest votes. According to the analysis, Abraham will end up having 689 votes (635 + 54) against Akeredolu’s 589 votes (669 – 26 – 54). If the 157 fake votes were removed from Akeredolu’s votes and the 131 rightful votes re-alloted to Abraham, (with the exclusion of Owo’s 26), Akeredolu will end up with 512 votes (669 – 157) while Abraham will poll 766 votes (635 + 131). A party source said: “Since it has been established by the Electoral Appeal Committee that fake delegates were truly injected into the list at the expense of real and eligible delegates, who couldn’t vote on the day, I actually don’t see any reason why the NWC cannot truly consider removing the votes cast by fake delegates.” Source: The Nation

The atmosphere that greeted the announcement of Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), as the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primary election on Saturday can be best described as 'ambivalent or mixed', judging by the outcry by most of the party delegates towards the result. Some of the citizens likewise, non-delegates, were seen to have tearfully besieged the residence of an adjudged favourite, Olusegun Abraham, most of them lost on how the said winner garnered the highest number of votes. As at the time of filing this report, rumours have it that most of the executives of the party in the state are on the verge of either resigning from their positions on the premise of rejecting the Akeredolu result. One of the aspirants who came third with 583 votes, Olusola Oke, had already officially rejected the outcome of the result via a press conference, alleging that there was "injection of fake delegates into the delegates list to positively induce the primary result for Akeredolu". Elsewhere, while a pocket of the Akeredolu supporters within the APC are celebrating his shocking victory, the entire body of the opposition party within the state, especially the People's Democratic Party (PDP), have been sent into a bigger celebratory mode, based on their perception of Akeredolu as a weak candidate easy enough to defeat, as they did back in 2012. The phrase "customer daada ni", a derogatory slang off a Nigerian hiphop used to describe sheepish patronage, has been on the lips of the PDP supporters since the Akeredolu announcement was made. Most of the APC delegates, some of whom spoke in confidence to our correspondent, lamented the emergence of Akeredolu, also called "Aketi", as the party's candidate, describing him as the aspirant with the least chances prior to the primary exercise, judging by his dismal performance back in 2012 when he polled a distant third as the party's gubernatorial candidate. Some of them also fingered a gang up against party integrity and structure by some of the aspirants, as to what led to the Akeredolu shock. One of them said, "I just can't believe this result. Something must be wrong somewhere and somehow. Aketi can't be our party's candidate again. He is not strong enough to represent our party at all. He is too snobbish and lacks the leadership prowess our party and state needs seriously at this moment". Another of the delegates, who hails from Ose, the same Senatorial district as Akeredolu, complained tearfully that the party is on the verge of losing again with Akeredolu as the candidate. His words, "This man lost in his own ward and his district during his own election back in 2012, that's how unpopular and a weak candidate he is. I suspect a gang up, and we will not accept this anomaly". Amidst tears and palpable expression of grievance, a host of the delegates who couldn't leave the International Conference Centre venue of the primary election, were seen to chorus a threat to never vote for the Ibadan-based lawyer. It would be recalled that Akeredolu was adopted without a primary as the governorship candidate by the then Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in 2012, but he lost scandalously to the PDP and Labour party, coming a distant third, despite the huge sum of money alloted to his campaign. This particular fact about Akeredolu's unpopular tag came up a lot as a big deficit of his aspiration in the buildup to the Saturday election. In fact, his Director-general back in 2012, who also doubles as a co-aspirant this time, Senator Tayo Alasoadura, about two months ago described Akeredolu as "hard-to-sell", while trying to defend his own role in the dismal 2012 Aketi campaign. This then explains the displeasure with which a large percentage of the party delegates received this Akeredolu outcome, as they never saw it coming. In a statement given to press on Sunday, Olusegun Abraham, who came second with 635 votes, seemed defiant and insisted on working with the party leadership to rectify or move forward from this situation. As it is, especially with Akeredolu's public diss of the party leadership, the APC in the state seems headed for the rocks with this Akeredolu outcome, and the whatever decisions made in the next few days will determine how successful or otherwise the party will fare come November. |
