Oppression can be an insidious thing. It does not always involve a blitzkrieg or out and out totalitarianism. Sometimes, the agbada takes long-learned military techniques and employs societal weapons – fear, poverty, hunger, religious and tribal bias, and stereotypes – to much greater impact. For over 58 years, Nigerian politicians used these tactics to silence the Nigerian masses. Their indoctrination was so thorough that they quietened any possibility of a revolution and made the Nigerian people – a people renowned in every other part of the world for their resilience and resourcefulness – grateful to be alive and see another day, regardless of the untold hardships the new dawn might present. Wholesale rigging, thieving, murdering and destruction ate at the very fabric of the nation while Nigerians were compensated with finger pointing and despondency. While the godfathers, united in their single vision of raping, pillaging and looting Nigeria into nothingness, looked beyond tribal, ethnic and religious lines to divvy up the country as they saw fit, the average Nigerian was taught that this was the only way politics could be practised. But a new candidate emerged and threw the rule book away. Omoyele Sowore ran a presidential campaign, the likes of which this country has never before seen. By so doing, he dispelled every myth and fallacy perpetuated by the ruling classes to hold Nigeria in a vice-like grip of corruption and fear. By all accounts, he was correct when he said it is impossible to stop an idea whose time has come. Perhaps the most crucial part of any political campaign is the fundraising. Whoever raises the funds not only determines the trajectory of the campaign but also the heart and soul of the government that follows. Many people thought it was impossible for ordinary Nigerians to fund a campaign since people had been previously conditioned to believe that it could only be done by a handful of people injecting hundreds of millions – most of it funds stolen from government coffers – in order to run a successful campaign. 150 million naira from thousands of individual donors later, Sowore’s vision for a campaign funded by the Nigerian people – a vision that was initially mocked – has now been validated. The donations, ranging from as little as 50 naira to a million, broke the mould and have finally confirmed that the Nigerian people will put their resources behind their hopes and aspirations for a better country. Money, however, isn’t all that a campaign needs. Campaigns require different kinds of resources and skill sets. A successful campaign needs strategy and policy analysis and development, grassroots mobilisation, and a good handle on public relations, media and communication with the electorate, logistics, security and planning amongst others. A significant portion of the resources of any campaign are typically spent on these activities. Sowore ran a world class campaign with remarkable staff being pooled from all over the world. The difference is that they were all volunteers, a phenomenon that hitherto had been alien in Nigerian politics. Even beyond the monetary donations, people have donated billions of naira’s worth of skills, resources and time. For those who wonder how Sowore’s upstart presidential bid and a five-month old party could have catapulted into becoming one of the top three political parties and movements in Nigeria, they need look no further than to the thousands of global experts in areas as diverse as policy, media, analytics, planning and political strategy that his campaign has attracted. People drawn from all around the world – from within Nigeria and spanning every continent – to birth a true revolution of ideas. Perhaps the most telling indication that this new paradigm had been engaged with by Nigerians is the extent to which they claimed this campaign as their own. Beyond the official strategies implemented by the campaign, this organic movement saw Nigerians taking full ownership of the campaign. Unprompted, they created jingles and flyers; they engaged their fellow Nigerians on street corners and in public transport. Nigerians defended their new-found hope to the hilt; refusing to return to the brainwashed days of APC and PDP. Indeed, it looks like this progressive movement tackled the fear of the ruthlessness in Nigerian politics. Sowore’s campaign successfully disrupted the paradigm of fear and territorialism that had dominated establishment politics in Nigeria. Politics that suggested that politicians are tied to regional and geographic turfs and could only play politics within their spheres of influence. The narrative that suggests successful politics cannot be implemented without violence and intimidation. The Sowore campaign engaged with Nigerians in every single geopolitical zone and worked across all of the states. There are many who said it would have been suicidal to visit the Daura home town of General Buhari or the Adamawa hometown state of the PDP presidential candidate. The Sowore campaign, however, made it a point of visiting both places and engaged with IDPs, herdsmen and local folks who had been neglected by their leading townsmen. For the first time in Nigeria’s history, a presidential campaign was run in a true grassroots nature. Rallies were substituted with town hall sessions that allowed for unfettered engagement between the candidate and the electorate. Different sessions were organised to accommodate different constituencies, ranging from faith-based groups to economic round tables for business leaders, to on-site visitations of workers, and engagements with students and youth. In every other part of the world, campaigns are serious business. A candidate’s decision to run starts with the development of a clear agenda and a manifesto that is not just a statement of intent, but also includes a clear sense of the vision and how that vision is to be achieved and paid for. Nigerian politics, up until now, had not operated on that basis. There has never been any clear difference between the parties and the programmes of the APC and the PDP has always been essentially the same. For the first time in Nigeria’s political history, the Sowore campaign turned that paradigm on its head; with the candidate and the party providing a clear agenda on how to create jobs, tackle security and deal decisively with corruption, but they also provided a clear path on how those programmes would be implemented and paid for. This meant that for the first time, people with an expertise in project development and management and strong practical experience in how to deliver successfully on massive projects were at the helm of a campaign, as opposed to the usual political jobbers. It is clear that it will no longer be business as usual in Nigeria’s political space as there is a clamouring for engaged politics. Sowore has set the pace and he is no longer a lone voice calling out in the wilderness. His disruptive methods and approach are catching on. For the first time in our nation’s history all the leading candidates subjected themselves to town hall sessions. The scales have fallen. This is an awakening that will lead to a progressive and prosperous Nigeria as envisioned by Omoyele Sowore.

Oyo 2019: Ballot Papers, Result Sheets Missing, To Be Transported From Lagos― INEC Less than 14 hours to the commencement of the presidential and National Assembly election to be organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the ballot papers, result sheets and other sensitive materials for the presidential election in Oyo State as well as Oyo Central Senatorial district election are yet to arrive the state capital in Ibadan. Tribune Online gathered that forms EC8A1 for the senatorial election in all the voting points created by the (INEC in all the three senatorial districts in the state are also not available for delivery to election officials. The materials, it was gathered, were discovered missing when INEC officials and representatives of the various political parties in the state got to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office in Ibadan, on Friday morning, to take delivery of the documents. The non-availability of the vital materials, it was gathered, poses a grave threat to the conduct of the election in the state tomorrow, as some party representatives have resolved never to sign for the delivery of the documents so far brought unless INEC produces all the pending materials. As of 4:00 p.m. today, Friday, the state Resident Electoral Commission (REC), Mutiu Agboke, told Tribune Online that the materials were in Lagos where they were expected to be transported to Ibadan for onward sorting and delivery to the councils and polling units. Tribune Online findings showed that as of 6.20 p.m., the materials had still not arrived the state capital for onward distribution to the affected local governments. “The election materials we are waiting for are for Oyo Central Senatorial District, both ballot papers and result sheets. We are also expecting the delivery of all the ballot papers for the presidential election. “As I speak to you, our materials are in Lagos for onward transportation to Oyo State. Instead of waiting endlessly for every material to be here, we have in our own wisdom thought of sorting them out for deployment to various local governments. I am sure that as we are going on with the sorting, other materials will arrive. “Also, form EC8A1 for Senate for all the voting points that we created in all the senatorial districts,” Agboke said.

The name Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe is now a song on the lips of many in Oyo State politics. The renowned global consultant who joined the gubernatorial race in Oyo State with a track record of working with government within and outside Nigeria, has wowed many with his impressive profile and plan for the state. Tegbe whose experience has shown a deep understanding of the vision, policies, thinking, working and ability to predict economic and social activities, puts him in a good position for the Agodi Government House job. While the likes of Bayo Adelabu, Niyi Akintola, Soji Eniade have spent more time in Government, Tegbe brings a combination of both private and public sector experiences to the table. Oyo state, who had an infamous reputation for practicing ‘Amala politics’ some years back, has seen better days since the beginning of the Ajimobi dispensation. What the state needs now, is a someone who can bring a global perspective to the developmental needs of the state. The state presently has a 4 star Investment-friendliness rating, making it one of the most investment friendly states in Nigeria. Its next governor must therefore have qualities to can further develop the state. In one of his visits to stakeholders in Oke Ogun, Tegbe articulated his 7 levers of development for the state which will focus on Agriculture; Education; Health; Excellent Governance; Trade & Commerce, ICT, Culture and Entertainment; Urban renewal and security. Tegbe said his contract with the people of Oyo state is to make the state a world class agro-based industrial hub and an attractive investment destination. A source who serves across both government and party circles said, “Tegbe’s coming into politics has changed the game plan of other contenders for the APC's guber ticket in Oyo State and some of them have resulted into various attack on the man who many didn’t know could rattle their ambition in just a short time of his entrance into the race" Meanwhile, a lot of people have become attracted to the humility and impressive track education and career track record of Tegbe. In a report from one of his recent media parley, Tegbe recounted that only God can anoint a person and that it is the decision of the party to choose a candidate while the Governor supports whosoever emerges. He also said, “My focus is to deliver on the God given potential of this great State. Oyo state has 84 % arable land and one of the largest land mass in South West Nigeria." “My contract with the people of Oyo State is to make Oyo State a world class agro based industrial hub and an attractive investment destination. Our soil is very rich and the people are hard working. We can build the capacity of farmers through outgrower schemes and embed best cluster practices that will allow farmers get the best out of their yield. We won’t stop at just planting and harvesting, we will increase the available storage facilities and encourage more agro-processing industries to invest in the statement so we can make gains across the agric value chain." Tegbe went on saying, "Gov Ajimobi has laid the foundation for modern Oyo State, what we need now is to consolidate on those gains to deliver the desired sustainable development.” Daramola Teniola is a passionate Nigerian who's both tenacious and dynamic, and whose interests include, but are not limited to driving social and political change.

APC & its league of guber aspirants: Will Oyo state coast home? | Jade Akintola For the right reasons, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state has received a broad beam of focus in the past few months. Top of these reasons is the array of sterling options the party got lined up for its 2019 gubernatorial slot to succeed Governor Abiola Ajimobi. For the first time, the party, and by extension the state, has an embarrassment of choices made up of more professionals brimming with ideas, and less career politicians from the abula school of thought. And, tongues have been wagging. The aspirants themselves, a ex-CBN deputy Governor, a KPMG executive, a Secretary to the State Government, a couple of business magnates, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and a couple of ranking cabinet members, in the race to outshine each other, have been engaged in what can be truly regarded as an intriguing war of optics, ideas and consultations around the state. However, anyone who has been truly following global trends of politics, will agree that, at the end of of the day, what mostly triumphs is the idea that bears the wins of policy consistency through continuity, from one government to the next. Oyo state has remained a strategic state in the scheme of a wide range of things both in the southwest and in the nation as a whole. Over the past years, especially those years mid-democracy, the state somewhat drifted off its pacesetting path and got stuck with the shenanigans of violence and mire of murky politics. Without doubt though, if one objectively considers the landmark moves the incumbent government has made in sectors like security, education, agriculture infrastructure and commerce, without mincing words, it'll be admittable that truly, a repositioning has been successfully achieved with Oyo state via these key sectors, and thus, laying a tractable and solid foundation. The Governor Abiola Ajimobi-led government has been able to set a fundamental tone to make Oyo state stand shoulder to shoulder with serious states as regards the indices of modern development and people-based governance. This foundation should be very fruitful for an incoming government, especially if it shares a sense of connection to the current one. Hence, why the calls for continuity have rang loudest in the streets and across different people groups in the state, almost at a deafening decibel. Oyo, the Oyomesi, and every well-meaning citizen of the Pacesetter, have had to consider the strategic position the state possesses towards the pace of development of the entire southwest, and thus, making it a somewhat easy decision to embrace continuity for what the APC, under Ajimobi's leadership has offered. As the build up about who succeeds Ajimobi mounts, one popular sentiment making statewide waves is that, the best candidate out of the sterling lot described above, to achieve the already established option of continuity, will be any candidate who has worked closely with the outgoing governor in his cabinet, close enough to make the work of continuity almost easy-peasy. Thankfully, about 5 eminently qualified cabinet members have expressed the aspiration to bear the touch of continuity. The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Azeez Adeduntan, Commissioner for Finance, Bimbo Adekanmbi, the Commissioner for Lands, Issac Omodewu, the immediate past Head of Service and current Executive Assistant (administration) to the Governor, Mr. Soji Eniade, and the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Lekan Alli. These 5 have been heavily touted to clinch the party's ticket with the support of the Governorand also the party hierarchy. In fact, it is rumored that Governor Ajimobi is keen about continuity also in a bid to ensure that important policies are built upon, such that Oyo keeps on in a stride towards becoming the exemplar amongst the states in Nigeria. While the credentials of the touted 'cabinet 5' is not doubted, the political calculations about their chances haven't ceased. Goodwill, popularity, overall competences, contribution to the current government and political relevance, have been the indices of these calculations. In the past month, the name that has risen in relevance and acceptance across people and party lines is Lekan Alli. Asides being the fourth most important man in the state being the SSG, the man, going by policy formulation and implementation and his job description, is said to the closest to Ajimobi, and a formidable professional who has displayed his capabilities in outstanding ways during his time of service. His humility is also seen as a refreshing trait and an attribute that has him becoming a darling of the people and party supporters alike. His political savvy has also been thrown up for consideration, for notably leading the successful campaign of the unprecedented 2nd term re-election of Governor Abiola Ajimobi in 2015. Another school of thought that supports and explains his timely rise in relevance is the example of what has played out in other APC-governed states like Lagos and recently in Osun, and even in other states in the country, where most times, a cabinet member in the suit of the SSG or Chief of Staff, is picked to succeed the incumbent.Truth is, while the cap could truly fit many, the question we should ask is about who has the 'head'. Any and every well-meaning Oyo state indigene will agree that for our state coast home and achieve the many befitting and lofty heights, whoever must be put forward to succeed Ajimobi should be an almost apolitical choice, cerebral and dynamic, but most importantly, must be someone who has learnt and mastered the ropes of ensuring continuity from a suitably close range. TGM2015:He definitely knows. I believe he's just whipping people's sentiments to his side |
Someone wrote this on Facebook. May enlighten us more: I went by the Music House around 8pm last night on my way from Lagos. The building stood there in all its majesty. Sad this had to happen. There are intricate lessons to be learnt from the demolition. I have decided to take the lessons rather than being emotional. I knew the building will be pulled down if not now then later. If not by this government, then by a later government. Why are we being emotional about this demolition? Oh because it's owned by Ayefele or because it is a radio station? Definitely whichever of the two reasons is not above the law of the land which is subject to a lot of interpretations. Has any one drove from Idi Ape through Bashorun to Akobo? Those buildings pulled down were owned by people like Ayefele. The businesses there employed people too. Oh because we assumed that they were not physically challenged or owned a radio station? When Barrister Lowo Obisesan held away as a Oyo Commissioner, he went about restoring the beauty of the land by pulling down everything that needed to be pulled down thus making Ibadan a beauty to behold. A lot of bread winners were affected. Same FRESHFM supported him back then. So now the chicken has come home to roost. Let's not crucify Ajimobi, Ajimobi has no single power to effect any demolition. The demolition was done by the OYSG. By May 29 2018, Ajimobi would walk away as a private person. The OYSG would always be here with us. Another man would mount the saddle as a Governor. Governance would continue. Our dear UCH lost its fence worth about N12million to that road in front of the Hospital. I doubt if we have been paid for it. This is an opportunity for politicians to score cheap points. I'll rather these politicians come together, pulled resources together and build another befitting Music House that in years to come would not fall 'foul' of government environmental laws. Government is like Management. Decisions are taken a times that we do not understand and feel shouldn't have been taken. But the government like the management still has to take a decision irrespective of whose ox is gored, irrespective of if we like it or not, irrespective of if it favors us or not. A government or management who lacks the will to take a decision has no moral latitude to be called a government or a management. However, if like it's being guessed that the demolition was to silence the opposition, then too bad. There area about 27 other radio stations in Ibadan alone. I seriously doubt if OYSG will want to muzzle the media. They told me this has been on for 7 years that Akala out of impunity bent the rules and roads for Yinka and no way it will not haunt him forever. Now a demolition of a year was sent to him to come rectify the adjustment.he refused. At the expiration of d 1 year.they served a 3days notice on him which expired on wednesday. The buldozer did not come that day only for yinka to rush to sue the government on thursday.Meanwhile courts are on break and case yet to be heard.no court injunction served.Yinka n fans continued to sentimentally insult Ajimobi and even Dapo Lam Adesina was at the station yesterday bashing Ajimobi. He now went ahead to pull down the illegal structure in question and not the entire building. Now egbon what is on that land that yinka is scared to leave. Remember his scandal with Erelu Agbaye who claimed they gave him fame. Yinka could have gone to Akala to help intervene and relocate him to another place.!!!!!! |

He is not the next Governor yet, but yes, his achievements are intimidating and overwhelming |
That many people hardly prepare for what is now becoming a tsunami of Joseph Tegbe’s entrance into Oyo state politics is very obvious for a new emphasis. What’s however spine chilling is the way he suddenly becomes a household item, no sooner had he made his intention to vie for governorship position in Oyo state a public knowledge. The visceral reaction of some political player is a mixed feelings of surprises and a fillip of hope for having at last the proverbial head that the cap fits. It’s a natural law that one should not feel secured until he makes a final move. It’s therefore not unexpected for the good people of Oyo state to shout eureka when the game changer in person of Engineer Olasunkanmi Tegbe beckons. He came with a soft mind but a large dream. His quest for social transformation and passion to better the lives of the less fortunate ones is a star that he is wearing on shoulder. He is a shoulder higher than the rest, that he has convincingly tested in both knowledge and character. His profile drowns the best on the list before his furtive appearance on the radar. He carries a first class in Civil Engineering in one hand, fellowship of the highest honour in accounting on the other and playing with a degree in law with his feet. Where they are holding on to one shining armor, he sets his own medals on a tripod. Knowledge is power, we are all made to believe. But it’s beggared by competence when choosing a leader. It’s also next to character in ranking as CB Okoli has made us realise that “knowledge may be power but does not necessarily ensure good character.” Interesting enough, he towers above equals in the game not only in academic qualification but also in character and competence. Up till this moment, not many people are aware of his foundation which he has used to heal many injured souls in different ways. He offers love where others give money. He knows better that an orphan does not rejoice after a heavy breakfast but after a little show of affection. Where others command, he shows concern. Those who were swayed by his elephant stride into politics first made a babyish attempt to stop a raging inferno with the air they blow from their mouth. They came with “Efori “formula that TEGBE is not original omo Ibadan, they forget so soon that Ile laa wo ka to somo loruko, the full time omo tegbe moyeje knocked them off, the rousing welcome and joyous celebration of Tegbe coming into politics by his kinsmen in Jegede compound, Oke Labo Ibadan finally put the blackmailers off ground. Whereas other aspirants prefer to spend millions to get their names popped up in the pages of newspapers, Tegbe has continued to gain entrance to the people’s minds… Dr Jide Adeyemo writes from Ibadan.

About two months ago, Oyo state received a 4-star rating as a 'Well Qualified State to attract Foreign and Domestic Investors' by the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC). Also, in the last quarter of 2016, the state moved up to the 4th position (from 26th) in rankings of the most investment-friendly states in Nigeria. As 2019 approaches, these examples above, are some of the major indices that validate the fact that Oyo state is set to become the face of sterling governance, if befitting leadership is elected into Agodi come next year. But, this wasn't the story some years ago. Putting it mildly, Oyo state was a mess of itself in the few years prior 2011. An era of terse political instability, open brigandage and insecurity had practically beaten the Pacesetter state into a pulp, ensuring that sustainable feats of governance were far and in between, almost an impossibility. The state had suddenly started setting the pace from the rear in the comity of states. It wasn't then surprising, that the Abiola Ajimobi-led government that was sworn-in by 2011, identified achieving security, as the leading piece in its tripod agenda of restoration transformation, and repositioning. And to be fair, one can safely say that this outgoing administration has achieved that deserved stability, such that a foundation has been laid, a fundamental tone has been set to make Oyo state stand shoulder to shoulder with serious states in terms of modern development, accelerated industrialization and people-based governance. Now, as the political calculations concerning 2019 keep heightening, one major question on the lips of the average well-meaning Oyo state indigene has been - "Who can take sustain this drive and take Oyo state even higher for the benefit of the people?" To the forward thinking and well-meaning Oyo state indigene, this is where the Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe option rings a huge bell. Without the risk of sounding off, if it's down to credentials and the practical experience needed to make Oyo leverage greatly from the stability it has achieved, the option of Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe is an apparent no-brainer amongst the names pitching interest to take over from Governor Ajimobi. As a Harvard-trained governance and socioeconomic development specialist, who has had extensive and wide range experience, spanning about 30 years, in institutional transformation, sector and organizational reforms, strategy formulation, blueprint development and implementation; and most especially, in providing reform and advisory services to the Presidency, State Governments and International Agencies, the Oyo-born consummate professional seems cutout for the job. To a large extent, the foundation to build a Oyo state that benefits all has been laid; and the major reason why a lot of people have touted Tegbe as one of the best hands to build on this foundation is clear - This is the fact that Oyo state now needs an experienced hand and expert, who already knows how to leverage heavily on the state's array of advantages and laudable stability, to practically create wealth, create jobs, and consolidate safety. And, this is what Olasunkanmi Tegbe as been an expert at for years. For example, as an active member and consultant to the Infrastructure and Human Capital Development Policy commission of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), Joseph Tegbe developed the Infraco model that contributed to the transformation of Telecom sector, making it one of the most significant contributors to Nigeria's GDP. He also masterminded the repositioning of the finance and accounts functions of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), blocking leakages and increasing their contribution to the nation's purse. In Oyo state today, the drift away from a huge dependence on money from Abuja has been identified as one of the next key steps to , and who else but this Tegbe who is revered both nationally and internationally for his mastery on how to make money. The renowned KPMG head has accrued a reputation for developing economic blueprints via his financial and economic advisory roles for state governments across the country. Considering our state's geographic and people expanse, its deposit of arable, mineral and tourism resources, Oyo is now rightly repositioned to vie as Nigeria's macroeconomic nerve centre, if not Africa's, and all we need is that experienced and professional leadership to enter this immediate future. And in no small way, Olasunkanmi Tegbe has contributed to ensuring that Oyo state economic heavyweight remains a strategic state in the scheme of a wide range of things both in the southwest and in the nation as a whole. Apart from serving as both a backroom and frontline economic advisor to the present administration in Oyo state, Tegbe crafted the strategy that turned around the moribund Odua group. Another key reason why Oyo state will thrive better with someone of Tegbe's experience and expertise at the helm, is the need for our state to enjoy the endless gains of policy consistency from one government to the next. We can see the example in Lagos, a state that has enjoyed uninterrupted policies from progressive government for approximately 22 years. Thankfully, Joseph Tegbe is and has been a progressive, both at home in Oyo and at the national level. As said above, he has played a key part to the success of the outgoing administration, such that, he's a good fit to strategically build upon these successes already recorded, in track of policy consistency. Interestingly, as the people prepare to queue up to elect a new leader to govern them for the next four years, it is interesting to know that the conversation as moved away from the usual sentiments of political party affiliation or platform, zone of origin or who your godfather is. Now, the people just ask, "who can do the job best?", and it is no shock that Tegbe has been ticking the boxes in the minds of people so far. With this brilliant antecedents, it has therefore not been surprising that the Joseph Tegbe candidature has experienced growing acceptance among the people since it was announced. Just last week, a body of Oyo state professionals literally endorsed him to be next Governor of the state, this, is in addition to a collective clamor for his candidature from different public groups including youths, artisans and also members of the Oyo political class. The cap could truly fit many, but the question we should ask is about who has the 'HEAD'. Oyo state cannot afford to dance aback when it comes to leadership as we approach the election year. Any and every well-meaning Oyo state indigene will agree that for Oyo to achieve the many befitting and lofty heights, whoever must be put forward to succeed the incumbent must an almost apolitical professional who fits an upwardly-mobile, tested, cerebral and richly-resourceful description. Joseph Tegbe, who is currently a Senior Partner and Head of the Technology Advisory Services and Markets of KPMG Professional Services in Nigeria, suitably fits this description without doubt. In summary, whoever mooted the idea of a Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe candidature to govern Oyo state in the next four years, deserves some accolades.
