PoliticsRe: The Failed War Against Corruption: Is It Corruption Fighting Back Or Hypocrisy by Firefire(m): 11:56am On Apr 07, 2017
ishiamu:
The Failed War against Corruption: Is it Corruption fighting back or Hypocrisy fighting back?

The war against corruption is in coma. Those in bed with the administration are accusing the judiciary and the Legislature of sabotaging the effort of President Buhari in winning the war. Is that really the case? The common phrase they use whenever the government is defeated in court is that “corruption is fighting back.” How true is this?

My understanding is that “hypocrisy is fighting back” and it is doing that big time. Corruption has many components and many people have failed to appreciate this fact. A few examples will suffice:

When Gen. Buhari reversed his publicly declared intention not to contest the 2015 presidential election, he simply committed “character corruption” which drained a huge part of his integrity away from him. When Gen. Buhari told us that he borrowed money to purchase the nomination form and gave a picture of a man of limited economic means but declared huge estate to his name in his asset declaration form, this is another character corruption. In the two scenarios above, people hypocritically clapped and defended him.

When the Army Chief declared ownership of real estate in Dubai worth millions of Dollars, the President and the anticorruption agencies kept mute. The Chief of Staff to the President was accused of receiving over N500m in bribe from MTN, anticorruption agencies kept mute and we clapped. When the Secretary to the Government of the Federation spent over N2.5bn to cut grass in IDPs and awarded contracts to himself, the President and the agencies kept sealed lips. Hypocrisy won.

Nigerians may be docile but they are not fools. Nigerians would have rallied round the President to confront individuals or groups sabotaging his efforts if he had shown necessary political biceps to deal with those closest to him.

My conclusion is that what is fighting back is hypocrisy not corruption. If hypocrisy is dealt with, corruption will not have any ground to fight back.

Last Line: ignore those making noise all over the place accusing the judiciary and the legislature of sabotaging the anticorruption war. They will condemn the EFCC tomorrow if their political leaders are processed for corruption.
Well said.

PMB's "lopsided" fight against corruption is far better than not fighting it at all as we used to have.

His terrorism fight has produced results that sane minds can't even argue against. Go to the NE and tell them this crap and see if you will come back alive.

This government, despite the very challenging situation it met, has proved to be resolute and responsive to solving the our challenging problems.

This govt is far better than the one it replaced. Only losers and perpetual wailing zombies have refused to recognize the fact.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday assured Nigerians that his administration would approach the nation’s economic challenges with the same commitment it had put into fighting corruption and terrorism.

Buhary's administration fight against corruption: lopsided, funfair, fluid and without direction. No conviction yet despite the media caricatures.

Buhary's government, terrorism fight: After 24 calendar month, no glimpse of the 230 kidnapped Chibok girls.

Now compare the directionless activities of the past 2 years with the intended approach of this Economy recovery plan.

Please be the judge, assuming Buhary still remain at the forefront of this administration.

ayindejimmy:
PRESIDENT BUHARI, AGAIN, LISTEN.....
Let me update you on a little bit of history about a few things that happened in the National Assembly:
Between 1999 and 2003 the following happened:
1. President Obasanjo imposed Senator Evan(s) Enwerem as Senate President on all the senators, but when the media - yes, the media - exposed Senator Enwerem as being an ex-convict who cleverly changed his name from Evan to Evans so that he could deceive INEC and voters to become a senator, Obasanjo mobilized and sacked him as Senate President, and nothing happened!
2. The charismatic, brilliant and stylish Chuba Okadigbo became Senate President against the wishes of President Olusegun Obasanjo, but when Okadigbo awarded a contract of a mere sum of 12 million Naira without advertisemen, or without due process, as is said these days, Obasanjo again mobilized and sacked Chuba Okadigbo as Senate President, and nothing happened!
3. After Chuba Okadigbo, President Obasanjo imposed Senator Adolphus Wabara on the senate as Senate President, but when Wabara took part in receiving and sharing a bribe of a mere sum of 50 million Naira from the Minister of Education at that time, Obasanjo ordered the arrest and immediate prosecution of Senator Adolphus Wabara, and nothing happened!
4. President Obasanjo imposed Honourable Salisu Buhari on the House of Reps as their Speaker in 1999, but when the media - yes, again, the media - exposed Hon. Salisu Buhari as having forged a degree certificate purportedly from a university in Toronto, Canada, Obasanjo mobilized and got him removed as House Speaker, and nothing happened!
5. Now, I wouldn't waste time talking about House Speaker Patricia Ette matter, as that case had no any form of interference from late President Umaru Yar'Adua!
BUT HERE COMES THE WORST.... JUST IN 2014...
6. President Goodluck Jonathan ordered the unlawful removal of the security aides of House Speaker Aminu Tambuwal, and NOTHING HAPPENED!
7. President Goodluck Jonathan ordered the gates of the National Assembly to be shut against House Speaker Aminu Tambuwal and other legislators, and NOTHING HAPPENED!
8. President Goodluck Jonathan ordered the police to teargas the National Assembly, specifically against House Speaker Aminu Tambuwal and other legislators, and NOTHING HAPPENED! Not even a whimper nor condemnation through a resolution was heard from the Senate!
NOW HERE IS THE DEAL....
• If a ruler like Obasanjo interfered in the affairs of the National Assembly to clamp down on either certificate forgers or bribe takers or for contract award "without due process", and NOTHING HAPPENED,
[s]• And if a notoriously corrupt ruler like Jonathan clamped down on Speaker Tambuwal; shut the gates against him; teargassed him; withdrew his security cover, and NOTHING HAPPENED, what do you think will happen if a man of integrity like you clamps down on all criminals masquerading as senators in the Senate?[/s]
NOTHING WILL HAPPEN, I assure you!
In your own case, you have the massive support of majority of Nigerians to decisively clamp down on these rogues, including the unflinching support of many prominent legal luminaries. So just crush them and liberate Nigeria.... After all, that's the reason we put you in power - to liberate Nigeria from crooks, criminals, and gangsters occupying positions of power!
Shakespeare famously said you have to be cruel to be kind.... In other words, you have to be cruel to gangsters, criminals, and rogues in the Senate so that you will be kind to the poor people they seek to destroy with their corruption. Cruelty to crooks like Saraki and his gang by you will be an act of kindness to poor Nigerians. That's the deal. A committee cannot tame criminals.

My friend, Gen. Buhary is a toothless bulldog. He cannot do jark.

Btw:

"Saraki is a cold, calculating, corrupt conman who destroys everything that comes in his way and Buhari is a self-centered, insensitive, naïve, and clueless man who has no business being president. The politics and choices of both men conspire to drag the nation to the pit" - Farooq Kperogi
