I will not agree to the idea of further driving the Taxes upward in Lagos, we are already under heavy and double taxation of different kinds...

- PAYE
- Consumption Tax
- Land Use Charge
- Etc

And yet social / infrastructure facilities are not evenly distributed.

I think the solution would be to develop standard transportation system, e.g Either low -high speed trains to connect cities, like in Europe...

My understanding is that little or no work has been done on the Red Line. So, all aspects of this project (infrastructure, rolling stock, and management) should be farmed out on PPP basis. Let the private sector handle it, as it does not look like the State can afford to put the cost of this project on its balance sheet right now.
I agree with your submission.

Let PPP take over the projects under the supervision of the state government, however after they must have made adequate competitive and open bidding.

There must NOT be any BUY-BACK like the case of Leki Epe Toll

I think the noise about the lekki epe road toll has killed PPP in this state. This is the reason why i hate the pdp (sorry for going political) and those fla.theads, we shouldn't how those fools kill our progress.

Lagos is the massive and viable to expect government to do everything
I can take you on another expository thread on your thoughts about the Leki/Epe toll / PPP and the corresponding cost attributed to the project.

No matter what, we can only move our region forward when we are set to ask instructive questions on accountability / stewardship reports from our Yoruba leaders.

You are a card carrying member of a political party. Therefore, whatever you post here will be viewed from party angle.

In my own opinion, that project should have been completed by now. The projects completed so far do not correspond with the IGR generated yearly, monthly allocation from FG and debt accrued. FACT.

Anyway, let me quit discussing Lagos. I'm now a Lagosian and I have never lived there.

Wish Lagosians best of luck.

We can't afford to derail this thread, there's no way we will discuss some issues without mentioning names. So, we minimize the discussion for the purpose of this thread.

Incidentally, one of my clients is involved in efforts to inject new life into one of the lines being discussed, and I was involved in high level communication with a particular foreign investor weeks ago.

Let me put it this way:

Those expecting Ambode to be firing on all cylinders and in all directions concerning the various lines proposed/initiated by Fashola just don't understand.

First, Lagos State simply does not have the funds to finance all these major projects (road and rail) started by Fashola.

Second, Lagos State is pretty loaded on debt already, so additional substantial debt financing is not seen as atractive at this point.

Thirdly, I may be wrong, but it does seem that Fashola embarked on too many of these big ticket projects at the same time.

Fourthly, it is ineveitable that one or the other of these projects will end up in PPP with the private sector stepping in.

Finally, with the exception of a couple or so rail lines, many of the other lines proposed by Fashola (yellow, greenline or what else), will not happen. That's the reality.
All the light rail projects was proposed to run on PPP...

AS Nigeria’s business headquarters, the Southwest is expected to lead other regions in the quest to develop Nigeria through massive investment in infrastructure

He pointed out that the rail project was being implemented under a public and private partnership. The state is building the infrastructure while the private sector will provide the rolling stock and management.

Dr Mobereola also pointed out that the Lagos rail will generate employment and create more housing.

My first contribution to this thread..and I agree with those who have observed that the contributor 'FireFire' appears more interested in seeeing things from a party political (PDP) perspective rather than putting 'Yoruba' first.

Now he has even extended the thing to Tinubu and Funsho Williams when there's absolutely no connection with the topic in hand.

As soon as more of his like on both PDP and APC sides decend on this thread, it's going to be downhill from here on.
You need to study the trend of discussion before jumping into unnecessary conclusion.

When you say party perspective, who are the party representing, are they not representing the masses ?

And moreover, we are not even mentioning any party here.

So be guided accordingly.

Simultaneous? Is anything happening on the red line
There is the Blue Line from Okokomaiko to Marina;

the Red Line from Agbado to Marina via Iddo and Muritala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA);

the Green Line from Marina to Lekki (Airport) ;

the Yellow Line from Otta to Iddo and

the Purple Line from Redeem to Ojo.

There are also the Orange Line from Redeem to Marina and the Brown Line from Mile 12 to Marina.

I cannot remember seeing any rail project in any part of Lagos apart from the Iganmu - Mile axis.

Let those living around there confirm, please.

If this project and light rail was delivered as promised by Fashola, do you know the level of development and employment it would have created for Lagosians ?

It is well.
PoliticsRe: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by Firefire(m): 6:51pm On Nov 06, 2015
Aareonakakanfo:
Then how come that lane is the most developed if they don't have any plans to include rail
See the rationale behind the project, unfortunately our leaders failed to deliver to promise.

Economic development

So it will become 42-43 minutes and that is a huge improvement for the people that are living on that axis.

“Those going to work on the Island, schools, hospitals, and to other various places will benefit enormously from it. Beyond that, it is also going to generate economic development along that corridor.

It’s going to open up access to all those areas that will generate employment, that will create housing , that will create industrial development, hospitals, schools everything that is needed along that corridor.

“The rail project situated in the middle of the Lagos-Badagry corridor, which leads to neighboring Benin Republic and other countries in the ECOWAS, would make it easy for people from those countries doing business in Lagos to have easy access to the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria.

It will lead to making a vibrant city, making Lagos an accessible place and making goods affordable within and outside Lagos. So again, we are increasing the economic aspect of Lagos and indeed Nigeria.”

Do you have any idea of the cost of this blue line
The first two lines being developed are the Red Line and the Blue Line.

The project which was awarded for $1.5 billion to China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) in 2009, began with the simultaneous construction of the Red and Blue Lines.

http://www.cometonigeria.com/travel-news-and-events/under-construction/under-construction-lagos-badagry-expressway-and-eko-rail/

That cost was in 2009, it has be adjusted severally by Fashola before leaving... I can post the latest value if you like ?
PoliticsRe: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by Firefire(m): 6:44pm On Nov 06, 2015
Aareonakakanfo:
Hmmmmmn does it mean there won't be rail from Mile 2 to badagry?
Nope! But 10 lanes is fine to us.

But unfortunately, no hope of even completing that project in the next 24 Months or Yrs. See Ambode comments few days ago...

According to him, “What we have come here to do is to specifically ensure that the contractor of the project is mobilised. It’s also important to us that the contractor takes it as a major priority. The Mile 2 Badagry expressway is very important to all of us and like we said, it’s a project that we must finish.

“It is a project that I would like to complete within the shortest possible time. So, I will like to see greater work done on the road project itself. On the rail project, like we have said before, we are going to mobilise immediately to see that what has been done from Mile 2 to National Theatre is continued to Marina within the next 12 months.

“We should be able to put to use whatever has been done from Mile 2 to Marina. Immediately they commence work on the road project from Mile 2 towards Badagry, once we pass the Okokomaiko area, we should be able to do the Blue Rail from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko.”

Mile 2 to National Theatre - 12 Months (This part is almost completed by Fashola before leaving)

http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/ambode-lagos-light-rail-to-be-completed-in-12-months/214843/

After polishing Fashola's work after 12 Months, we can now start immediately for the Mile 2 towards Badagry.

Can you see the wisdom of the governor ?

Ogbon ti o to eyokan, to nda si meji.

No hope nor respite for Lagosians in that axis of Lagos in the next months to come, at least after 12 colander month. undecided
