Obiano moves to tackle electric power challenges in Anambra state

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has inaugurated a seven-man committee on power, saying he is determined to tackle the challenge of power head on.

He charged the committee chaired by the leader of Distributing Power Business of General Electric Company for the sub-Sahara Africa, Mr. Chike Okonkwo.

Agriculture is getting a boost under Gov Obiano watch, Anambra will feed the nation and employ thousands of youth in agriculture. Cooperatives are being formed by farmers in the rice, maize and cassava belts of the state, take advantage of this to enjoy government agriculture

Yuletide: Obiano Tightens Security with Operation Sheba

After establishing himself firmly on top of the security scenario in Anambra State as the chief security officer of the state, Governor Willie Obiano has initiated a wave of new measures to deepen the security network in the state and give Ndi Anambra a chance at experiencing the first crime-free Christmas in decades. One of the new security measures that the governor has rolled out for a safer Anambra this Yuletide Season is Operation Sheba, a special, combat-ready, anti-crime police squad that was unveiled recently in Onitsha to give a new dimension to crime-fighting in Anambra State.

Made up of 150 elite officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force, Operation Sheba was introduced to give crime-bursting in Anambra State a new and biting edge. The squad is split into three units of 50 officers each, designated to 24 hours surveillance on each of the three senatorial districts of the state. Operation Sheba comes to provide more depth to the all-conquering Operation Kpochapu which is credited with wiping out criminals, especially kidnappers from Anambra State in less than two months of swinging into action. Operation Sheba’s strength lies in its high mobility and penetrating surveillance that covers virtually the length and breadth of Anambra State and its rapid response ability.

Providing an insight into the formation and mission of Operation Sheba, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Hosea Karma, explained that the idea of setting up the special squad came from the thunderous ovation that trailed Governor Obiano’s security exploits during the Security Fundraising organized by the state in Abuja and Lagos recently. According to him, after listening to the words of encouragement from many illustrious sons and daughters of the state who felt elated that Governor Obiano had finally secured the state, it became clear that the state government could not afford to rest on its oars and allow criminals to even contemplate a come-back.

“So, we likened those high praises in Lagos and Abuja to the Biblical narrative where Queen Sheba, after hearing the exploits of King Solomon, left her own kingdom to come and witness the greatness of King Solomon, first hand, only to discover that what Solomon had was far greater than what she had heard. We want the indigenes of the state to visit home this Christmas and New Year and find out that Anambra is far more peaceful and secure than the stories they have heard,” explained Karma. According to him, Operation Sheba is poised to raise the bar in community policing in Anambra State as it connects effectively with the officers and men of Operation Kpochapu as well as the members of the Vigilante groups in the various towns to provide a round the clock data on the security situation in the state.

According to Commissioner Karma, the Anambra State Police Command has also moved to forestall any likelihood of a breakdown of law and order in any part of the state during the Yuletide Season. “We have issued directives that all commercial vehicles that have hitherto complicated the traffic challenge in Onitsha by picking passengers along the highways must desist from that practice forthwith. Henceforth, they must load their vehicles in parks and garages that the government has designated as bus stations. This will help decongest the roads and ensure a free flow of traffic this season. We have also started arresting street traders and hawkers of all kinds of merchandise on roads and highways as they provide a perfect cover for criminals to strike at unsuspecting commuters. We shall also arrest loiterers and anyone who is roaming the streets aimlessly because they serve as decoy to criminals. We are assuring the people of a crime-free Christmas” Karma further explained

Although Karma has been in his present position for only two months, there is a growing feeling that he has what it takes to sustain and improve on the excellent foundations laid by his predecessor, AG Gwary. “Within two months of my stay, we have pulled down six houses in six locations and arrested over 100 crime suspects from across the state,” Karma recalled, pointing out that his men had arrested a syndicate made up of a man and his wife that specialized in stealing babies from hospital maternity wards as well as a two-man gang that robs mothers of their babies at gun point. Also arrested are syndicates that specialize in bank robbery and the one that robs churches after service, carting away tithes and offerings pooled by worshippers. The command also arrested a syndicate that tricks car-dealers into parting with their cars with false credit alerts that are programmed to hit their phones once a transaction is sealed. No fewer than 15 second hand cars were recovered from this syndicate alone.


Indeed, since his inauguration as the governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has continued to justify the faith of Ndi Anambra in him with a consistent performance that has turned the state into one of the safest places in Nigeria today. So far, the Obiano administration has donated over 100 patrol vehicles to Operation Kpochapu, his crime-bursting squad, to ensure that there is no letup in their capacity to respond to distress calls as well as ensure an effective policing of the state. The known dark-spots across the state have been wiped out with security tents that are heavily fortified with sandbags and sharp-shooting officers on 24 hours vigilance.

In immediate response to Obiano’s heroics, Anambra is overflowing with investors who inundate the state Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA) with inquiries on how to come into the state and play a role in the ensuing revolution. The latest of them is UDIPPCO Limited which, last week, penned a $150m electricity generation deal to provide 80 megawatts of electricity and solve the power needs of the state.

Hypocrisy is bad and I still maintain that what makes criticism bad is when you start posting foul pictures to mock a State or town. We all know how Theodore Orji has been wrongly treated on media or how Peter Obi has deceived people using the media. Imagine if Abia people start posting all those 6storey glass houses in Aba or beautiful private homes in Abiriba or Lever brothers, PZ Cussons, Colgate palmolive, NBL, Guiness, Star paper mill, Geometric, 7up, Tura industries, Glassforce, Tonimas etc. it does not mean Orji worked. What it means is that Igbos and some multinationals developed Aba. Nnewi is an obvious case of self-help as all the industries are private with little or no multinationals.

Going by the pictures shown here Peter Obi is not better than Theodore Orji.

My brother please be civil, when you where posting pictures of interior and exterior of hotels in Imo thread, no body critics you please don't expect us to do things the way you do, Imo state has been oil producing state for so long now and member of NDDC and Owerri was the formar capital of Aba, Anambra state has three major cities to take care of with little resources from fed, we just started oil production not too long and Awka became state capital in 1991, and you know what we battle before Ngige, Obi and Obiano came in, please I'm not saying you shouldn't comment but please be civil. There is difference between Anambra Imo, Enugu and Ebonyi state, Anambra and Abia state are commercial and industrial states in south/east and where created at the same time.Thanks

I think we should begin to name public secondary schools,libraries etc after some of these illustrous sons of Anambra.
I want to see a Chinua Achebe, Christopher Okigbo,Pius Okigbo secondary, Cypprian Ekwensi,Laz Ekwueme schools, libraries, The women development center Awka should be name Dora Akunyili women development center. Chimamanda Adichie should be honored with a library named after her etc.

Chika Unigwe is also great writer, Anambra indigen has highest numbers of NLNG awards.
Chika Unigwe, has won the 2012 Nigeria Prize for Literature Award organised by Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG). Her book titled On black sisters’ street, which detailed the trans-Atlantic prostitution, was adjudged the best literature book in the 2012 edition of the award.

The award was presented to Unigwe at the Princess Alexandra Auditorium and Theatre, UNN, at a public ceremony organised by the NLNG in conjunction with the university.

Speaking the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Bartho Okolo, praised NLNG for hosting the event in the alma mater of the awardee. He said alumni of the university had distinguished themselves in various fields of human endeavour, citing the achievements of Prof Dora Akunyili and Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili among others.

Prof Okolo, who was represented by his deputy on Academic, Prof Isaac Asuzu, said students of the institution would draw inspiration from the feat of Unigwe, urging female undergraduates to tow the footsteps of the likes of Akunyili and Unigwe to achieve greatness.

The Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, who was at the event, said Unigwe’s achievement was a celebration of the change, which had started in Nigeria. He said the nation was passing through bad times because it had spent its time and resources celebrating criminality and rascality, while the real people who were supposed to be celebrated were left unsung.

Obi promised to donate a centre for creative writing in his state, saying it was his belief that the centre would create and nurture future writers. He enjoined indigenes of Anambra State to strive for excellence in their endeavour.

I think i have given up on asking people this because out of 5 people i asked they all said the same thing, i never knew that small Nnewi is more industrialized than Onitsha.
Even when you google companies in Anambra State most of the coys that google vomit are located in Nnewi with good internet presence.

All the people asked said Nnewi is more industrialize and even have more non Igbos as well as expatriate communities than Onitsha.

To me the reason is that Nnewi people have bluecollar mentality, they are more involve in the development of their town than Onitsha people who are mostly whitecollar people that leave the development of their town to non natives while they seek office jobs in lagos, abuja ph and abroad(not a bad idea anyway, everybody must not have bluecollar mentality).

If Onitsha people can come back and contribute their own quota in developemnt of the city, believe me the place will be more better than its now.

You are right, Nnewi people where focused and committed in developing their town early but government then did carry them along, that is why the presence of industries it will be difficult to dualise their roads.

Nnewi home of technology, Union auto industry Nnewi Own by Ibeto group, Nnewi host many auto industries that specialized in different auto parts, is the only town in west Africa where motor vehicle manufacturing is possible. The reason for creating this thread is to show what Anambra state and her citizen is made-of, so my people let discus our development and ignore our enemy, all we are aspiring for is development in Ala Igbo. This is Lagos line main market. I personally took this pix last Easter when I went to shop with madam. But xmas shopping is the greatest here with even larger population coming for shopping from all parts of the country and beyond. Capital inflow coming into main market on daily basis is so much..

My brother I just remember my experience in main market, I went to market on 24th December around 12 noon to buy my Xmas shoes, they where shouting "after today no more till next year" my brother the crowd was something else, I saw my size and pay the security men started disturbing them to close their shops the guy mistakenly gave me left left unfortunately for me I didn't check, because people were pushing me when I got home I realized that one was wrong foot, I was short of words, then I remembered "after today no more till next year" I went to the market the previous year I couldn't identify the shop I felt bad, although it was his mistake, I try to correct it.

These areas are key to our development, I knew that Obi's administration did well in health, education and he tried to revive great Onitsha water scheme I don't know how far with the project? Our hospitals: Anambra state university teaching hospital Awka, Iyi enu Hospital Ogidi, Heart & kidney dialysis centre Onitsha, Onitsha general hospital, Borrome Hospital Onitsha, Nnamdi Azikiwe university teaching hospital Nnewi, newly built open heart surgery centre Adazi and other mission and general hospitals, nursing schools etc. Our working governor also need to focus on them also on education, I went through government house Amaobia last two months I saw red BRT buses packed and the new bustop they are fixing, sign posts, traffic lights, he is trying to improve our transport sector, if we can get pictures from health sector, eduction etc on this thread It be great.

SENCOU group has large investment in Anambra they have one big company at Obosi road, that manufactures baby dieppas, ladies sanitary wares etc, and the new company they built at Agu Awka seems bigger than the one in Obosi but is yet to be commssioned, according to their sign, they specialized in generator sets, pumping machines etc manufacturing. To encourage our people the state government should concentrate on proposed independent power plants, God has blessed us with abundant gas in our state, if the government can solve power problem the sky is our limit.

I noticed SABmillier has expanded their company, I saw stainless still tanks they installed.
