mikkyphp: i found out a solution to DP change issues:

i did an update on my S3 and i updated/downloaded google photos. since then, when i want to change dp, it asks whether to use "Gallery"(native android photo app) or "google photos".

each time i use google photos, my dp changes seamlessly!

if u are still facing dp change issue just, change ur dp to dat of sample picture first then u can nw switch to any pic of ur choice from ur gallery

Yes and no. No because you will need to be rooted to use mobile uncle to flash recovery to be able to flash the rom. Yes because you can flash the recovery from your computer without rooting and then flash the rom. It's a matter of ease and preference really.
