sharwama:
SHARWAMA'S APPROVED VISA TRANSCRIPT.
Date: June 7, 2019
Venue: Lagos Consulate
Time:6:30 a.m
Gender of VO: Male
Window: I Didn't notice, I was blown away by his cuteness and jerry curl grin grin grin
Ok it was the second to last window, before the exit door.
I: (Smiling) Good morning sir
V.O: Good morning, please pass me your passport and your I-20.
I did and he was like "please push your passport a little bit further". I pushed it and asked, "is it okay now sir?"
VO: Yes it is. Why are you going to the US
I: (deep breath + killer smile) To uhm, pursue a masters degree in Biology, Biomedical Science Concentration at East Tennessee State University, Johnson City Tennessee.
V.O: Why this degree?
I: I really want to work as a research scientist at a renowned biomedical research Institute here in Nigeria. Unfortunately, a masters degree in Biology or a closely related field is the minimum requirement for such a position. So this degree would not just help me hone my research skills or build my critical thinking, it would qualify me for the position I really want, when I return.
V.O: So why did you pick this school?
I: (Gesticulating with magical hands) For me, it wasn't just about the generous funding I received, which I am extremely grateful for by the way, it had a lot more to do with the student-faculty relationship I have built with my potential supervisor, professor Burna boy. We Skyped a couple of times and we have chosen a thesis topic I am super excited about.
V.O: What other schools did you apply to?
I: I applied at Texas A&M University, Commerce
VO: uhum(while typing)
I: Cleveland State University Ohio and Kansas State University Manhattan Kansas.
VO: Have you travelled out of the country before?
I: I have not had the need to sir.
VO: Are you married
I: No sir
V.O: You said you have funding, let me see the evidence
I: My school did not give me an official letter but it's on the I-20(I pointed at the document so he looked at it)
V.O: Ok I see $9590 to be payed by someone ,who is this?
I: That's my mum sir
V.O: What does she do?
I: My mum is a business woman, she sells African fabrics and traditional bridal attires
V.O: Yes do you have any proof, I want to see evidence.
I was confused and he mentioned "or bank statement"
I: (Killer smile)Yes, with all pleasure. Just a moment please.
So I got the bank statement
V.O(while looking at the statement) Doesn't your mum have other children to sponsor in school?
I: (I never expected that question, so my English technically failed me, so I looked at him and answered) All of us have finished school, it remainder two of us.
I was so embarrassed about my grammatical blunder but I was glad he understood the point, we were all done with school except two of my siblings.
V.O: Ok, I will be approving your Visa. He hands me the white paper. Talked about pick up in three working days, gave me back my SOA and I-20, asked me to keep it carefully and I would need the latter at the port of entry... Told me to have a wonderful day
I: (Killer smile) Thank you and have a wonderful rest of the day too.
Yup, I bounced out of the building grin
THE END grin grin grin

Am sure google would be able to help you out with this or visit anatomy association of America for grad schooks listed in their site. Am sure Penn State offer it but no funding (which is what I noticed for Msc Anatomy) that's why I opted for biology or biomedical science. I actually had my bachelor's degree in Anatomy
chineduokoye05:
Please which school in USA offer M.sc in anatomy. And also I need to be put through on the requirements

Hello Nairalanders, I would be an ingrate if i don't share my transcript cuz what I learnt from this forum helped me during my interview and am still learning from other folks view.
Now a bit of background information about my Journey to studying abroad, just think it will encourage someone out there.
Journey started right after NYSC, but my focus was on UK and Australia ( Germany, Finland etc a no no due to the language stuff) and I applied to like 8 schools looking at Chevening and Commonwealth scholarship. after applying like 3 times for both scholarship and not been picked I said now I need to broaden my horizon, mind you I have browsed through what it takes to study in the USA but due to nthe fact that I have to write GRE, I just bone USA.
In between, I applied to Unilag for MSc Anatomy ( focused on it and paused hunting for oversea study) and did quite well. Job hunting started again in Nigeria, Academia will be like you need to be registered for PhD bla bla bla but from my MSc experience I said PhD is outside the country. Afterwards, I said its time to write GRE, I mean no be spirit dey do the exam na, so I prepared well amidst my part time job and apprenticeship (rookie tailor I am) and got 303. Then I focused on PhD in Biomedical sciences, applied to like 3 schools and was still rejected, I cried rivers of tears. Now the week I got my last reject, after the depression thing for like a week, I asked myself what else and I went back to look at the rejection letter, what wast written there was that: your academic background is not fit enough..... then a Lecturer Mentor of mine said Girl, why don't you try MSc. So, the search began again for schools with funding in Biomedical sciences. Picked ETSU, cuz it was clearly stated GA was on ground plus they've got my previous transcript and test score with them (sending those documents cost a fortune as we all know). Now, since fall admission (2018) don pass, I applied for Spring (2019) even though people say Spring dont usually come with funding I just said let me try ( it wont hurt anybody na). Applied to other schools too ( Penn state and Purdue but for fall 2019)
Surprisingly, ETSU admission came in first with full funding (GA) and deficit of 4 million.
With Nairaland's help, I filled the DS 160 form myself and everything that follows ( paying visa, schedule appointment etc)
Now for those that have siblings in the USA (I have 3 with same surname oooo), i was honest and filled their name there with their status. Also, filled in my part time job and that I have a Msc already too (although a friend advised against this) and my previous travel history in the US
To my Interview, was interviewed by a female VO
VO: pass me your I20 and passport
VO: what are you going to do in the US
me: to do my MSc in Biology conc Biomedical science at ETSU
VO: where did you hear about the school
me: from searching Anatomical society of america which has list of grad schools in anatomy and cell biology
VO: as a GA what would you be doing
me: taking up 2 lab sessions in a week
VO: how will this deficit in your account be covered
me: by my Dad and I passed the account statement I printed since Novemebr
VO: what do you currently do
me: am an Anatomy Instructor in bla bla bla
VO:Do you have siblings in the USA
me: yes, 3
VO: where are they and what are they doing
me: in ABC state doing this and that
VO: I will be approving your visa etc
After like 4 days I picked my Visa
Personally, I think you are responsible for searching out schools yourself, also if it requires that you do GRE don't cut corners with schools that doesn't require GRE, just do it. Also, funding helps lot I mean how many average Nigerians get $44,980 for schools when Americans themselves take loans to study. Also, asking questions can help a lot: Knowledge is power
In between @ shawarma, can't wait to meet you in ETSU Biological science department (the best in ETSU ( free foods and stationery) lus our executive aide is bae) and Johnson city where the Transit bus is free for students grin, housinga nd food are cheap too wink
Wishing everyone the best in Life.
