National Coordinator, Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Taraba, Mr. Edward Ogenyi on Tuesday said that about 110,849 people are living with the virus in the State. Ogenyi said this at the commencement of a five-day ‘Demand Generation Activities for HIV and AIDS Service Uptake’ in Jalingo the State capital. According to Ogenyi, the activities marked the first phase of implementation of the President’s Comprehensive Response Plan for HIV and AIDS, funded by NACA/SURE-P HIV/AIDS Programme, launched in July, 2013. He affirmed, “Taraba HIV prevalence is 10.5 per cent which is far above National average of 4.1 per cent according to the 2013 National Reproductive Health Survey report. A 14-seater Toyota Hiace bus with number plate, Anambra ZBL 903XA, yesterday crushed one motorcyclist at Agbor, along Asaba-Benin expressway in Delta State. The deceased, simply identified as Lucky, was killed at about 8:30am by the bus heading to Lagos from Awka, Anambra State, while the motorcyclist was trying to a make U-turn. An eyewitness who spoke to the us, said: “The deceased was making a U-turn because Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA, were at work before he was crushed by the bus that was on high speed.” He added that deceased was a popular shoemaker in the area. A passenger, Mr. Ovuironye Mathew Dennis, travelling onboard a 6.45am Aero flight on Monday was caught while stealing about N350, 000 from a luggage belonging to an Austrian, Novotny Anton, another passenger on the flight. Dennis, 31 with 1.65 height as captured in his temporary driver’s licence and seating on flight seat No. 23C was spotted by a member of the airline’s cabin crew when he removed the Austrian’s bag from the cockpit as if he was changing his seat. The Enugu State Police Command on Saturday rescued nine pregnant girls and women during a raid on a baby factory at the 9th Mile area of the state. The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, disclosed that the baby factory was owned and operated by one Ikechukwu Onoh of Etiti, Amakwo-Ngwo Village, in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu. Onoh and the ladies were taken into police custody after the raid. According to Amaraizu, the factory was run in Onoh’s private residence.
