The Nigerian death toll at the Hajj stampede has hit 64. This was revealed by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) which said in Makkah that 10 more bodies were identified, raising the toll from 54 to 64.

The commission’s Public Affairs Director, Uba Mana, said 244 pilgrims were missing.The figure of the injured also jumped to 71 from 61 previously announced.

Mana also said 12 of the 71 injured pilgrims were transported to Saudi Arabia by tour operators and 59 by state pilgrims’ welfare agencies.He said the deceased were from Adamawa,Bauchi, Borno, Ekiti, Jigawa, FCT, Cross River, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kaduna, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Plateau, Rivers Sokoto, Yobe, Taraba, and Zamfara.

Nigeria is now the third country with the highest number of casualties.

Japanese centenarian Hidekichi Miyazaki also known as 'Golden Bolt' set a fresh record as the world's oldest competitive sprinter on Wednesday, one day after turning 105. Miyazaki completed his heat with a time of 42.22. His personal record of 34.10, achieved when he was 103-years-old, remains in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Imitating the signature pose of the fastest man in the world, Jamaican Usain Bolt, Miyazaki said he would love the chance to race against the Olympic gold medallist.

"I will say this: I'm proud of my health. My brain might not be the sharpest but physically I'm tip-top. I've never had any health problems. The doctors are amazed by me. I can definitely keep on running for another two or three years."

Controversial singer Chris Brown could face yet more tour trouble in the Asia-Pacific region and he hasn't even arrived there yet. Two months after getting temporarily stuck in the Philippines amid a contract dispute, the R&B artist now appears in danger of being refused entry by Australia over his domestic violence record.

Brown, who pleaded guilty in 2009 to assaulting Rihanna, his pop star girlfriend at the time, has four big Australian shows scheduled for December. But activists have been calling on the government to deny him a visa.

Australian Minister for Women Michaelia Cash said Thursday that country's immigration minister "will be looking at this very, very seriously."

Fighters belonging to the Pakistani Taliban have stormed an air force station near Peshawar in Pakistan’s northwest, resulting in a firefight with security forces and the deaths of at least 43 people, sources say.

ISPR, the Pakistan military’s media wing, said at least 21 security officers and five civilians working at the Badaber Air Force base died and 14 fighters were killed in Friday morning’s gun battle.

The Pakistani Taliban, also known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Taliban, claimed responsibility for the raid at the facility, located on the edge of Peshawar, capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

An army captain and two guards were among the dead, according to the military and a local hospital that received the bodies, and at least 10 soldiers were wounded.

A university lecturer who shot dead his girlfriend before driving to work to kill a colleague he suspected of having an affair behind his back,has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Mirror reports Shannon Lamb, 45, allegedly gunned down church outreach minister Amy Prentiss, 41, at their home in Gautier, Mississippi, at around 6am on Monday.

He then travelled 300 miles to his place of work, calling 911 to alert them to her death, then opened fire on the campus at 10.45am killing assistant history professor Ethan Schmidt.

Lamb was last night at large, armed and dangerous and said he was refusing to hand himself in.

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Ghana for a one-day working visit.

He arrived around 10am at the Kotoka International airport in Accra, where he inspected a guard of honour mounted in his honour.

Many of the Nigerians who gathered at the airport waved brooms, the symbol of his party, the AllProgressives Congress, APC.

Buhari is in Peduase Lodge where he is holding bilateral talks with President John Mahama.

Mr. Buhari will also meet with the Nigerian community in Ghana.

Ado-Ekiti- Reprieve came the way of 31 Civil Servants caught coming late to work on Monday, as Governor Ayo Fayose, Wednesday, asked them to return to work.

This was just as Governor Fayose held a meeting with workers in the state to discuss whether the state should take the bail out funds being planned for states by the Federal Government.

Speaking at the meeting in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, the governor who expressed concern about the bail out funds, said it would aggravate the debt profile of the state.

Fayose said, ” even with the 9 per cent interest on the fund, rolling it over with the debts and commitments the state already had would be too burdensome.

“They say they are restructuring N18.8 billion of our commercial loans and with the 9 per cent interest, by the time the money is repaid in 20 years, we would have paid an extra N36 billion as interest. That means the N18 billion would have become N56 billion.

No fewer than three persons were feared dead in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Sunday evening when a group, Independent People of Biafra, clashed with security operatives.

It was gathered that 20 persons were injured in the clash.

A member of the group, Chinwendu Ikechukwu, told newsmen that the group had after its meeting held at Nkpor, Idemili-North Local Government Area of the state, decided to go and preach to the people on the need to embrace the struggle for Biafran state when the trouble ensued.

Ministers, who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, tackled President Muhammadu Buhari on his on-going probe of his immediate predecessor. They asked the president to stop unwarranted attacks on Jonathan and show due respect to him and his administration.

The Presidency, in its reaction, however, took a swipe at the former ministers, saying they should reflect on the kind of government they handed over to the present government.

This happened on a day the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) listed new cases of looting under the Jonathan administration. The party said the corruption mess that characterized the Administration was so pervasive that until it was cleaned, Nigeria will not be able to actualize her potential.

A man named King Lawrence is asking Diamond Platnumz and his baby mama, Zari Hassan to subject their first baby together, Latiffah to a DNA test but the Tanzanian music star said he has not received any order from the courts.



In an interview with Tanzania’s Cloud FM, the ‘No. 1’ singer said he is not bothered by whatever Zari has done in the past while making it clear his controversial baby mama is not a married woman.

Some thugs have allegedly beaten up a woman, who was identified simply as Beatrice, and smashed her two-year-old baby against the floor, killing the toddler. It was gathered that the incident occurred at the Bajare Camp in the Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Witnesses told our correspondent that the thugs attacked Beatrice on the instruction of a middle-aged woman, identified simply as Toyin, following a disagreement between the women. One of the witnesses said the disagreement between Toyin and Beatrice led to a free-for-all. He added that Toyin left the scene and came back with some thugs who she allegedly ordered to beat up Beatrice.

He said, “During the scuffle, the baby boy, who was strapped to his mother’s back was smashed against the floor by one of the thugs, leading to his death.” It was gathered that the thugs immediately fled the area, while the toddler was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

Member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency, Mr. Istifanus Gyang, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the lingering crises in Plateau State so as to bring the unending attacks on innocent citizens to an end.

Gyang’s plea came as two people were killed by some unknown men on Saturday evening. Their bodies were discovered on Sunday morning.

The victims, said to be cousins and whose names were given as Ibrahim Nyam and Jimmy Pam, were said to have been ambushed and killed by unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen as they were heading to Jos from Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.
