A starving man in North Korea has been executed after murdering his two children for food, reports from inside the secretive state claim. A 'hidden famine' in the farming provinces of North and South Hwanghae is believed to have killed up to 10,000 people and there are fears that incidents of cannibalism have risen. The grim story is just one to emerge as residents battle starvation after a drought hit farms and shortages were compounded by party officials confiscating food. Undercover reporters from Asia Press told the Sunday Times that one man dug up his grandchild's corpse and ate it. Another, boiled his own child for food. Despite reports of the widespread famine, Kim Jong Un, 30, has spent vast sums of money on two rocket launches in recent months. There are fears he is planning a nuclear test in protest at a UN Security Council punishment for the recent rocket launches and to counter what it sees as US hostility. One informant was quoted as saying: 'In my village in May a man who killed his own two children and tried to eat them was executed by a firing squad.' The informant said the father killed his eldest daughter while his wife was away on business and then killed his son because he had witnessed the murder. When his wife returned the man told her they had 'meat' but she became suspicious and contacted officials who discovered part of the children's bodies. Jiro Ishimaru, from Asia Press, which compiled a 12 page report, said: 'Particularly shocking were the numerous testimonies that hit us about cannibalism.' Undercover reporters said food was confiscated from the two provinces and given to the residents of the capital Pyongyang. A drought then left food supplies desperately short. The Sunday Times also quoted an official of the ruling Korean Worker's party as saying: 'In a village in Chongdan county, a man who went mad with hunger boiled his own child, ate his flesh and was arrested. United Nations officials visited the area during a state-sponsored trip but local reporters said it is unlikely they were shown the famine-hit areas. It has not the first time that reports of cannibalism have come out of the country. In May last year, the South Korean state-run Korean Institute for National Unification said that one man was executed after eating part of a colleague and then trying to sell the remains as mutton. One man killed and ate a girl and a third report of cannibalism was recorded from 2011. Another man was executed in May after murdering 11 people and selling the bodies as pork. There were also reports of cannibalism in the country's network of prison camps. North Korea was hit by a terrible famine in the 1990s - known as the Arduous March - which killed between 240,000 and 3.5million people. (Daily Mail)

What could be the shortest celebrity marriage in Nigeria is about to happen as an upcoming musician, Gbemi Adetuberu, married to Ibadan society lady and interior decorator, Laide, has been sent packing from the latter’s apartment allegedly for physical assaults. Barely three weeks after their society wedding on November 8, 2012, at one of the Akure branches of RCCG, Mrs Olaide Adetuberu has sent her husband, Mr. Gbemi Adetuberu, out of her apartment for allegedlly making life unbearable for her with his continual beatings. Gbemi, an upcoming artiste, R learnt, was seen 20 days after the N4m wedding, beating her wife in Lagos during an event that had foreign guests in attendance. For almost two weeks, the interior decorator refused to comment on the battery allegation but eventually did so after getting the nod of her lawyer. In a chat with R on Thursday, the lady confirmed that she had been through hell in the hands of her husband. She described Ilesa-hailing guitarist, Gbemi, as a violent husband whom she had hoped would change in marriage. “He used to beat me even before we got married, but I believed he would change once we got married. I was wrong. Claiming that she had invested millions of naira in her husband’s fledging musical career since they started dating a year and a few months ago, Laide said Gbemi was not appreciative enough “to show some seriousness in his career” to justify her investment in his life. She also told R that her in-laws never wanted her husband to be a musician, but rather a prophet. “He had always been interested in music, a passion that I passionately invested money in just to please him. “Because I wanted to support him, I paid almost N200,000 for him to participate at the NIMEX exhibition held at the Muson Centre, apart from other amounts spent on him”, she added. At the exhibition on November 28, both had agreed that Laide would stay in the car outside the venue of the exhibition to get some rest as she had been exhausted by preparations for the event, and that Gbemi should join her in the car once he was done auditioning at the event. Gbemi was said to have been through in less than 30 minutes after he was called on stage, but didn’t go to join her wife in the car as both had agreed. Worried, she looked for Gbemi and found him chatting with an usher. Not wanting to cause a scene however, she walked up to her husband, asked the usher to excuse her as she wanted to talk to her husband, and both strolled into the venue of the exhibition. They talked briefly but Laide said she could sense from her husband’s countenance that he was getting worked up. Laide ignored Gbemi, who had shouted at her that they should leave the event and go home. “He didn’t care whether we were at a public place, he continued to raise his voice at me”, she said. Laide said she was ashamed as Gbemi continued to shout at her that she should leave Muson Centre and both should start going home. She refused to do as she was instructed by her husband and his next action was to slap her . “I was stunned. He just kept beating me right there in public and astonished guests couldn’t do anything. It took the intervention of security officials before I could be rescued from him. He beat me blue black. I never expected he would beat me like that in public. I had expected that he would wait till we got home, he didn’t. “He has come to beg me, but I am afraid of losing my life because that is how he has been beating me from time. Even my friends warned me not to marry him because each time he came to beg me after beating me, I always forgave him. But I’m now afraid for my life”. Asked if her in-laws were aware of her predicament, she said each time she reported Gbemi, his parents always waded in and Gbemi would always promise not to beat her again. She also said she reported these beatings to some of her friends. “After the Lagos beating, I decided to send him out of my apartment because the suffering was getting too much for me. I reported to the police at Iyaganku, because he has started threatening me via e-mails since he can’t come to my house. I have refused to take him back but I’m still afraid he may break into my house one day to injure me”, she told R. When R called Gbemi’s number on Tuesday, the male voice on the phone said he “wouldn’t say anything for now” but that R should call back the following day and since Wednesday till the time of going to press Gbemi’s two lines were switched off.
