Paris St-Germain beat Lyon on penalties in the French League Cup final to seal a fourth domestic treble in six years.

It was the final French League Cup final, with the decision made last September to cancel the tournament after this season, and ended 0-0.

After the first 10 penalties were scored, PSG keeper Keylor Navas saved from Bertrand Traore before Pablo Sarabia scored the winning kick.

The game was watched by about 5,000 fans at the Stade de France.

It was only the second domestic game in France since Ligue 1 was curtailed in April - with PSG beating Saint-Etienne 1-0 last Friday in the French Cup final.

The game had little in the way of real drama, except Lyon defender Rafael being sent off in the final minute of extra time for fouling Angel di Maria on the edge of the box.

Lyon are now facing a first season without European football since 1996-97, unless they win this season's Champions League.

They visit Juventus next Friday in the last-16 second leg, holding a 1-0 first-leg win.

PSG, who have won 25 of France's last 36 domestic trophies, play Atalanta in the quarter-finals on Wednesday, 12 August as they look for a quadruple.

The 2020-21 Ligue 1 season begins on 23 August, the same day as the Champions League final.

Sports / Former Chelsea Player Ivanovic Smash Trophy During Title Celebration by Footyzone: 5:25pm On Jul 27, 2020
Cup upset: Zenit St. Petersburg BREAK Russian Cup trophy as they celebrate on the pitch after doing first double in decade (VIDEO)

Russian Premier League champions Zenit sealed the domestic double with a late win over underdogs Khimki in the Russian Cup Final on Saturday, only to drop the trophy within minutes of receiving it at the Ekaterinburg Arena.
Three weeks after wildly celebrating by dousing each other in champagne in their locker room after winning the Russian Premier League, Zenit tasted glory again with a late win over newly-promoted Khimki that sealed their first league and cup triumph in a season since 2010.

Players and staff including matchwinner and Russia captain Artem Dzyuba leapt on a podium under swirls of confetti as they enjoyed their narrow win, knocking off part of the gleaming silver trophy in an act of clumsiness that club captain and former Chelsea star Branislav Ivanovic might want to avoid watching again.

Russia midfielder Magomed Ozdoyev and former Ukraine defender Yaroslav Rakitskiy lifted the trophy to inspect its slightly disfigured state before Ozdoyev held the separated piece aloft, looked back at his teammates with a laugh and continued the party.

Some fans claimed that the design of the trophy was too delicate and compared it to a vase, while others claimed that CSKA Moscow and Lokomotiv Moscow had also damaged trophies in previous years.

The mishap was not quite as disastrous as arguably the most fatal trophy drop of recent times, when Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos destroyed the Copa del Rey as it hurtled off the top of the Spanish giants' victory parade bus in 2011.

That version of the trophy went on display at the Spanish Football Federation's museum, but the Russian Football Union will be hoping their silverware can be salvaged for reuse in next year's final.

Zenit had not won the Russian Cup for four years and needed an 84th-minute penalty from top scorer Dzyuba to see off Khimki, who will join them in the top flight after finishing second in the Russian First Division this season.

“Penalties are always unpleasant," the 17-goal striker told Match TV, comparing his penalty to the one he took in Russia's 2018 World Cup win on spot kicks against Spain, which he described as "really scary".

Sports / Champions!! PSG Beat St Etienne To Win French Cup But Mbappe Injured (pics) by Footyzone: 11:38pm On Jul 24, 2020
Paris St Germain’s Neymar struck early to secure a 1-0 win over 10-man St Etienne as they claimed a record-extending 13th Coupe de France on Friday in a near empty stadium as French soccer came out of a four-month break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Soccer Football - Coupe de France - Final - Paris St Germain v AS Saint-Etienne - Stade de France, Saint-Denis near Paris, France - July 24, 2020 Paris St Germain's Neymar reacts during the match, following the outbreak of the coronavirus disease.

The Brazilian scored on the rebound in the 14th minute after PSG fellow forward Kylian Mbappe sprinted clear and saw his shot blocked by goalkeeper Jessy Moulin, with only 5,000 fans in the 80,000-seater Stade de France due to strict health protocols.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron had met the players on the pitch but kept his distance and wore a face mask.

The atmosphere in the run-up to the first professional game in France after the long hiatus was far from festive with only a handful of people around the stadium before the match.

The contest got off to an eventful start with Yvann Macon felling Neymar in the opening seconds to earn a yellow card and St Etienne’s Denis Bouanga hitting the post in the fifth minute.

But it was the Parisians who scored when Neymar pounced on Moulin’s save to fire in.

Loic Perrin’s rough tackle in the 26th put Mbappe out of the game. The St Etienne captain was sent off in his last game and four other players were booked as tempers briefly flared.

With Ligue 1 champions PSG chasing a quadruple of titles this season, the few fans in the stands breathed a sigh of relief when Mbappe returned on crutches to the bench after the interval, joking and laughing with his team mates.

“It went crack,” Mbappe was heard telling Macron of his injury during the trophy ceremony. Macron then asked whether anything was broken and Mbappe said “No, I don’t think so.”

St Etienne kept finding ways into the PSG box even after going a man down but missed out on adding to their six Cup wins.

“We won the final and that is what matter,” PSG coach Thomas Tuchel said. His team had lost last year’s final to Stade Rennes on penalties.

The German was also angry with the way St Etienne had played from the start.

“It was complicated with all the fouls to Thilo Kehrer, Neymar and Mbappe. In the last three matches against St Etienne they get a red card in the first 30 minutes. I don’t know what is being said in their dressing room. It is horrible I can’t understand it.

“We won and we have a lot of things to improve, to talk about and analyse,” he said.

PSG and St Etienne players clashed during the Coupe de France final.

A horror challenge on Kylian Mbappe reduced the star to tears and sparked a mass brawl during the Coupe de France final between Paris Saint-Germain and Saint Etienne on Friday night.

The Ligue 1 champions had already taken a 1-0 lead at the Stade de France when Neymar put Thomas Tuchel's side in front, celebrating with the small section of PSG fans allowed inside the stadium.

But with just 31 minutes gone the game took a sour turn when Mbappe was wiped out by veteran defender Loic Perrin, who was making his final appearance for the club with Arsenal loanee William Saliba unavailable for selection.

The incident sparked ugly scenes on the pitch after the players became embroiled in a 21-man brawl, with players from both benches all getting involved.

The referee Amaury Delarue initially awarded a yellow card for the tackle but, after a lengthy VAR review, deemed the challenge worthy of a red card and Perrin received his marching orders.

PSG duo Mitchel Bakker and Leandro Paredes were handed yellow cards along with St Etienne's Romaine Hamouma for their roles in the melee.

After the French referee had completed his assessment of the incident, substitute Marco Verratti was also shown a yellow card.

Mbappe required medical attention on the pitch after suffering a nasty knock to his ankle and after it became clear he could not continue, the 21-year-old left in tears as he hobbled down the tunnel.

That could cause some concern for PSG, who are scheduled to play Atalanta in the Champions League quarter-final first leg on August 12.

Sports / Kai Havertz To Chelsea Transfer Confirmed As Teammate Drops Hint Over £72m Deal by Footyzone: 6:50pm On Jul 23, 2020
The 21-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea when the summer transfer window opens, and former Man City winger Leroy Sane appears have confirmed the deal

Kai Havertz's £72m Chelsea transfer appears to have been 'confirmed'.

As reported by football.london, the west London outfit hold an interest in the Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid and if reports are to be believed then they will soon be confirming the signing of the Germany international.

But, former Manchester City winger Leroy Sane just might have beaten them to it.

The Germany international recently sealed a return to his homeland, joining Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich after winning two Premier League titles under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.

Although, it would seem that the 24-year-old also keeps his ear to the ground in regards to the latest transfer rumours surrounding his international teammates.

In the video below, Sane can be heard talking about the quality of young players coming through in Germany and he praises Chelsea for signing both Timo Werner and Havertz.

The Werner deal officially went through on July 1 after the Blues activated the £47.5m release clause in his contract at RB Leipzig.

However, there's been no confirmation of Havertz's move to Stamford Bridge as of yet. So either Sane knows something that no one else does, or he's just speculating.

According to the Athletic, Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia is close to working her transfer magic once again by securing a deal for Havertz at a lower price than many would have expected.

The deal is said to be around €80m (£72m) after add-ons, but how much of that is up front is unclear, as some figures that have been mooted include €65m plus €15m, or €70m plus €10m.

Furthermore, Sky Sports Italy claim that Havertz has already agreed personal terms with the Blues, so all that seems to remain is an official announcement - which could come after Champions League football is secured.

Meanwhile, Lampard is still refusing to be drawn on reports linking the Blues with a move for the Leverkusen ace.

"I'm not talking about Kai Havertz, he's a player of another team," Lampard said earlier in the week during his pre-Liverpool press conference.

"I'm looking at a game tomorrow that is so huge for this club the last thing I want to do is talk about players of other teams."

Sports / Ronaldo And Immobile Both Hit 30 Goals! Who'll Finish As Seriea Top Scorer? by Footyzone: 4:03pm On Jul 21, 2020
Ronaldo’s double strike in a 2-1 win on Monday meant Juventus could clinch a ninth straight Serie A title this week.

With four rounds remaining, Juventus moved eight points clear of Inter Milan, nine ahead of Atalanta, and 11 in front of Lazio, which trailed the Bianconeri by just one point before the break for the coronavirus pandemic.

Juventus earned a measure of revenge after losing twice to Lazio in December–in Serie A and the Italian Super Cup.

Ronaldo converted a penalty after the VAR determined a handball, then finished off a counterattack following a generous pass from Paulo Dybala.

Ciro Immobile pulled one back for Lazio with a penalty in the 83rd.

Ronaldo and Immobile are level atop the Italian league scoring chart with 30 each.

Also, Ronaldo became the first player to score at least 50 goals in the Premier League, the Spanish Liga and Serie A. His 51 in Italy go with his 84 in the Premier League, and 311 in La Liga.

Both sides hit the post in the first half; a headed volley from Juve’s Alex Sandro, and a long-range effort from Immobile.

Ronaldo also headed off the crossbar after being set up again by Dybala.

Sports / France Football Release Stunning Statement On 2020 Ballon D'or Winner by Footyzone: 4:59pm On Jul 20, 2020
France Football announce the Ballon d'Or will not be awarded in 2020

France Football, the magazine behind the annual Ballon d'Or award, have announced that the prize will not be handed out this year.

The decision comes due to the complications caused by the coronavirus pandemic, which put a halt or cancelled the major football leagues.

It's the first time since 1956 that the Ballon d'Or will not be awarded.

"There will be no edition in 2020, because it turns out, after thoughtful consideration, that all the conditions are not met," Pascal Ferre, editor-in-chief of France Football, said in a statement.

"We believe that such a singular year cannot -and should not- be treated as an ordinary one.

"From a sports perspective, two months (January and February), out of the eleven generally required to form an opinion and decide who should lift the trophies, represent far too little to gauge and judge; without forgetting that the other games were played – or will be played – in unordinary conditions (behind closed doors, with five replacements, Champions League’s Final 8 played in a single game).

"Finally, the equity that prevails for this honorary title will not be warranted, especially when it comes to accounting and preparation : all the award seekers will not be in the same boat, some having seen their season cut short. Therefore, how can we establish a fair comparison? To avoid overly convoluted calculations and projections, we chose the least bad of the options.

"This decision, which was taken of course with all the Group stakeholders, does not delight us but it seems to be the most responsible one. Protecting the credibility and legitimacy of such an award also means ensuring its flawlessness over time.

"The Ballon d’Or will gather again the football big family and enthusiasts in 2021, to relive the happiness that surrounds the ceremonies as we have experienced them in recent years."

Barcelona's Lionel Messi was aiming to retain his award after triumphing in 2019. He was set to face competition from Robert Lewandowski, Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos and many more who lit up 2020.

Olympic figure skater Yekaterina Alexandrovskaya, a 20-year-old Australian national who was born in Russia, has died after falling out of a window in Moscow, her coach said.

Russian officials did not immediately comment on the cause of death, but coach Andrei Khekalo told AFP news agency that she had fallen from a sixth-floor window in central Moscow.

Russian media said she had left a note reading "I love" in Russian, suggesting it could have been a suicide.

The coach said Aexandrovskaya missed a training session in January and was later diagnosed with epilepsy, leading her to quit the sport.

He said she had earlier suffered from depression.

The Australian Olympic Committee confirmed her death.

"It is enormously sad to lose Katia who was a vibrant and talented person and an incredible athlete," AOC Vice President Ian Chesterman, who was the team's chef de mission in PyeongChang, said in a statement.

Alexandrovskaya, who obtained her Australian citizenship in 2016, competed in the pairs with Harley Windsor at the 2018 PyeongChang Games in South Korea. The pair won the 2017 world junior title.

Windsor, Australia's first indigenous athlete to compete at a Winter Olympics, said he was "devastated" by the news of Alexandrovskaya's death.

Sports / Marcus Rashford To Receive Honorary Doctorate By University Of Manchester by Footyzone: 12:40pm On Jul 15, 2020
Manchester United and England forward Marcus Rashford will receive an honorary doctorate from The University of Manchester later this summer.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson congratulated Marcus Rashford on his successful campaign to persuade the government to provide free school meals to children over the summer holidays

The award, which is the highest honour the university can bestow, will be "for his remarkable campaign against child poverty off the field and outstanding sporting achievements on the pitch".

Rashford last month successfully campaigned for the government to extend its free school meals voucher scheme over the summer holidays and also helped lead an initiative with the FareShare charity to raise funds to help supply food to children during the coronavirus pandemic.

At 22, Rashford will be the youngest ever recipient of an honorary degree from the university and joins Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Bobby Charlton on the list of those who have have received one.

He said: "It's a proud day for myself and my family. When you look at the great names that have been awarded this doctorate in the past, it's humbling.

"We still have a long way to go in the fight to combat child poverty in this country but receiving recognition from your city means we are heading in the right direction and that means a lot."
During the lockdown, Rashford teamed up with the poverty and food waste charity, FareShare, a collaboration which has led to £20m being raised in financial and food donations and enabling 3.9m meals to be distributed to the country's most vulnerable every week during the pandemic.

On June 15, he pushed the campaign forward even further by writing a heartfelt open letter to the UK government and followed up this message with a high-profile publicity and social media campaign drawing on his own personal experiences of using foodbanks and afterschool clubs growing up.

President and vice-chancellor, Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, said: "Marcus is an extraordinary young man with an extraordinary talent and drive that stretches well beyond the football field.

"His work for charity and his high-profile campaign will not only help countless young people across our own city, but across the entire country.

"Our university has social responsibility at its core and this sense of civic pride and duty is something we are proud to share with Marcus. That is why the university is delighted to make Marcus our youngest ever recipient of an honorary degree."

Sports / Manchester City's two-year Champions League Ban Lifted! by Footyzone: 10:46am On Jul 13, 2020
Manchester City have successfully overturned their two-year ban from European club competitions.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) announced the club were cleared of "disguising equity funds as sponsorship contributions".

Uefa issued the ban in February after ruling City had committed "serious breaches" of Financial Fair Play regulations between 2012 and 2016.

City's fine has been cut from 30m euros (£26.9m) to 10m euros.

In delivering the ruling on Monday, Cas said City did "fail to cooperate with Uefa authorities" but overturned the decision by Uefa's club financial control body (CFCB) to ban them.

City said the decision was "validation of the club's position and the body of evidence that it was able to present".

"The club wishes to thank the panel members for their diligence and the due process that they administered," City added.

Cas' ruling means City, who are guaranteed to finish second in the Premier League this season, will play in the 2020-21 Champions League.

In this year's competition, Pep Guardiola's side face Real Madrid in their last-16 second leg at Etihad Stadium on 7 August. They lead 2-1 from the first leg and will face Juventus or Lyon if they progress.

The Cas statement continued: "The award emphasised that most of the alleged breaches reported by the adjudicatory chamber of the CFCB were either not established or time-barred.

"As the charges with respect to any dishonest concealment of equity funding were clearly more significant violations than obstructing the CFCB's investigations, it was not appropriate to impose a ban on participating in Uefa's club competitions for Manchester City's failure to co-operate with the CFCB's investigations alone."

On reducing the fine, Cas said that, while it considered "the importance of the co-operation of clubs in investigations conducted by the CFCB" and Manchester City's "disregard of such principle and its obstruction of the investigations", the Cas panel "considered it appropriate to reduce Uefa's initial fine by two-thirds".

It added: "The final award with reasons will be published on the Cas website in a few days."

Uefa said it noted there was "insufficient conclusive evidence to uphold all of the CFCB's conclusions in this specific case and that many of the alleged breaches were time-barred".

The governing body added: "Over the last few years, Financial Fair Play has played a significant role in protecting clubs and helping them become financially sustainable and Uefa and the European Club Association remain committed to its principles."

What were City accused of?
Uefa launched an investigation after German newspaper Der Spiegel published leaked documents in November 2018 alleging City had inflated the value of a sponsorship deal, misleading European football's governing body.

Reports alleged City - who have always denied wrongdoing - deliberately misled Uefa so they could meet FFP rules requiring clubs to break even.

On 14 February, the independent adjudicatory chamber of the CFCB said City had broken the rules by "overstating its sponsorship revenue in its accounts and in the break-even information submitted to Uefa between 2012 and 2016".

It added that City had "failed to cooperate in the investigation".

City, who have been owned by Sheikh Mansour since 2008, were fined £49m in 2014 for a previous breach of regulations.

What was City's case?
City failed in an initial bid to have Cas halt Uefa's investigation in November last year.

After the two-year ban was announced, City said the process that led to it was "flawed" and "prejudicial" and immediately announced their intention to appeal.

They alleged they had been the victim of an illegal hack by people who had the express intention of damaging their reputation and that the emails were being used as the basis for reports which were being taken out of context.

City also believed the CFCB was not independent and ended up being distrustful of it, partly because of the amount of secretive information the club felt was leaked to the media.

What next?
Uefa could appeal against the decision in the Swiss federal courts.

It is unlikely that any such appeal would be heard before the 2020-21 Champions League starts.

The Premier League could have looked to take action as well if the ban had been upheld because their own FFP rules are similar - but not exactly the same - as Uefa's.

Analysis
Dan Roan, BBC sports editor

Over the last decade, City have been the dominant force in the English game, but few results have been as important as this one.

An upheld two-year ban would have been disastrous for the club's finances, their chances of keeping their best players and, above all, their reputation.

Instead, City can breathe a huge sigh of relief, and the uncertainty instead surrounds Uefa and its financial rules.

The credibility off FFP lies in tatters. After all, how can FFP survive after one of the world's richest clubs, having been found guilty of obstructing a Uefa investigation, a club that was found to have breached the rules in 2014, walk away with just a 10m euros fine?

Many will wonder what kind of deterrent that sets for other clubs, especially clubs with such financial resources. It shows how difficult it has become for governing bodies to enforce the rules.

The language that Cas uses is important. Uefa noted that Cas found "insufficient conclusive evidence" to uphold all of its conclusions, not 'no evidence'.

But City are unlikely to care too much about that and what a story it would be if City can follow this up with a first Champions League

Demonstration by former Arsenal forward lasted the same amount of time a Minneapolis police officer knelt on the neck of George Floyd

Thierry Henry has sent a powerful message of support to the Black Lives Matter movement by taking a knee for the first eight minutes and 46 seconds of Montreal Impact's game with the New England Revolution.

Wearing a 'Black Lives Matter' T-shirt, the former Arsenal forward also raised his fist in solitary as players and staff across the MLS continue to pay tribute to George Floyd.

It comes after nearly 200 players raised their right fists and took a knee before the MLS is Back Tournament opener on Wednesday in Orlando, Florida.

T-shirts over kit with the words "Black and Proud" and "Silence is Violence" have also been worn with players and referees taking a knee before games.

— Major League Soccer (@MLS) July 10, 2020

Henry's demonstration of eight minutes and 46 seconds is the amount of time Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on the neck of Floyd, the unarmed American black man whose death in May sparked worldwide protests.

"I sat down for 8 mins and 46 seconds, I guess you guys know why," Henry said after the match. "That was just to pay tribute. That was it, simple."

The kneeling protest was popularised by then-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in 2016 while the raised fists mirrors the protest against racial inequality by Americans John Carlos and Tommie Smith at the 1968 Mexico Olympics.

Premier League players have knelt at the beginning of every match since English football's top flight resumed following the coronavirus lockdown.

On the pitch, Gustavo Bou's 56th-minute strike was enough to see Henry's Montreal side lose 1-0 as the Frenchman begins his first season as head coach at the club.

Chelsea, the only other remaining Premier League club left in Europe's top-tier competition, trail Bayern Munich 3-0 ahead of the return leg in Germany, with the winners drawn to meet either Napoli or Barcelona.

RB Leipzig, who defeated Tottenham to reach the last eight of the Champions League for the first time, will meet Atletico Madrid while Atalanta, playing in the Champions League for the first time, have drawn French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

All matches in the mini-tournament of knockout games, which will be single-leg fixtures, are set to take place in Lisbon, Portugal at either Sporting's Estadio Jose Alvalade or Benfica's Estadio da Luz between August 12-23.

Sports / Man United Set New Premier League Scoring Benchmark After Thrashing Aston Villa by Footyzone: 3:08am On Jul 10, 2020
The Red Devils' scintillating run of form continued at Villa Park as Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood and Paul Pogba all got in on the act.

Manchester United have set a new Premier League benchmark after winning by a margin of three or more goals for the fourth game in a row by thrashing Aston Villa.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side arrived at Villa Park on Thursday looking to extend their recent winning run in the top flight to four matches, and their unbeaten streak stretching back to January to 17 across all competitions.

The United boss named the same starting XI that managed to secure comfortable victories over Sheffield United, Brighton and Bournemouth, with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood leading the line and January signing Bruno Fernandes pulling the strings in midfield.

The United boss named the same starting XI that managed to secure comfortable victories over Sheffield United, Brighton and Bournemouth, with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood leading the line and January signing Bruno Fernandes pulling the strings in midfield.

Villa managed to minimise the Red Devils' considerable attacking threat in the opening 25 minutes of the match, as Dean Smith's side aimed for an upset in their ongoing bid to avoid relegation.

However, the breakthrough was eventually made just before the half-hour mark, as Bruno Fernandes won a penalty following a rash challenge from Ezri Konsa in the box.

The Portuguese confidently struck the ball into the bottom corner for his eighth goal in 15 appearances for United, which sparked a dramatic shift in momentum.

Solskjaer's men quickly began pushing for a second goal and were rewarded for their efforts just before half-time when Greenwood picked the ball up 25 yards from goal. The 18-year-old set himself before firing a fearsome drive past Pepe Reina in the Villa net, giving the visitors a healthy lead heading in at the break.

Paul Pogba rounded off the scoring to continue his recent resurgence with 58 minutes gone, as he expertly placed the ball into the far corner of the net after receiving a pinpoint Fernandes corner just outside the penalty area.

The game finished 3-0 after a subdued last 30 minutes, with United becoming the first team in Premier League history to win four successive games by three-plus goals.

Manchester United are the first side in @premierleague history to win four consecutive games by a margin of 3+ goals, with the last team to do so in the English top-flight being Liverpool in October 1987.

The Red Devils' latest win over Villa also means that they have now beaten the Lions on every day of the week in the top-flight, a feat no other side has managed against an opponent in the competition.

Solskjaer will now start preparing his side for a meeting with Southampton at Old Trafford on Monday, with United now only one point behind Leicester in the race for a top-four finish.

Aston Villa v Manchester United - United are unbeaten in their last 20 Premier League away games against Aston Villa (W13 D7), since a 1-3 loss on the opening day of the 1995-96 season

Manchester United will rock up at Villa Park on Thursday looking to set a Premier League record.

Old Gunnar Solskjaer's men are in irresistible form at present with last weekend's 5-2 victory over Bournemouth stretching their unbeaten run to 16 matches in all competitions.

United are currently fifth in the Premier League and four points off Leicester City who occupy the final Champions League spot.

The Red Devils haven't lost a league match in B6 in almost 25 years but, going into Thursday's fixture, United have one Premier League scoring record they're looking to smash.

Solskjaer's side are on for a Premier League first when they travel to Aston Villa - by becoming the only side to win four consecutive matches by a three-goal margin.

They began the streak with a 3-0 win over Sheffield United two weeks ago thanks to a hat-trick from Anthony Martial, while Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes netted in a 3-0 away win at Brighton last week.

United's 5-2 win over Bournemouth at the weekend was another win by such a margin and another scarily attacking display this week will earn a place in the record books.

United are unbeaten in their last 20 Premier League away games against Aston Villa (W13 D7), since a 1-3 loss on the opening day of the 1995-96 season.

It’s the longest unbeaten away run one team has had against another in top-flight history.

Villa, meanwhile, have conceded 62 goals from 33 league games this season at a rate of 1.87 goals against per game. The worst defensive record on-average in the Premier League.
