If you have accidentally deleted your WhatsApp chats and have been wondering how you could get them back, you don’t need to worry as I will show you how to restore the messages from backups. WhatsApp automatically makes backups every day at 4 AM and stores them in the WhatsApp folder of your Android phone. This folder is either located in your device’s internal memory or external microSD card. To restore the most recent backup, you will need to uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp. During the installation process, you will be prompted to restore your message history. Choose Restore to restore your missing chats. https://www.androidgist.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/20887921-en-012-588x1024.jpg If you are not prompted to restore your messages, it could be that: 1. Your SD card and/or chat history is corrupted. 2. Your backup is too old. WhatsApp cannot restore backups that are too old. 3. You have a different phone number than when you backed up your chats. In any of those cases, your lost messages cannot be restored. Restoring older (less recent) backups Before attempting to restore messages, please note: 1. Current chat history will be lost upon restoration. 2. There are only up to 7 days worth of backup files. 3. Any new messages sent/received after a backup, and deleted before the next backup, cannot be restored. 4. If you run a manual backup, it will overwrite the most recent automatic backup file. 5. On newer devices, your WhatsApp/Databases folder is most likely located in your device’s internal memory. 6. You must have the same phone number in WhatsApp that you had when you backed up your chats. Recommendations before starting to restore your messages 1. Make sure you have a good file manager. This will be useful for renaming the backup files. 2. If you do not want to lose your current history (newest messages), create a manual backup by going to: WhatsApp > Menu Button > Settings > Chat Settings > Backup conversations. This manual backup file will be saved as “msgstore.db.crypt7″ or “msgstore.db.crypt8″ in your /sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases folder. Save this file as “msgstore.db.crypt7.current” or “msgstore.db.crypt8.current” (depending on the original file extension) so you do not get it confused with other backup files during the restoration process. To restore from a backup, follow these steps: 1. Uninstall WhatsApp. 2. Decide which backup file you want to restore. 3. Rename that file from “msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt7″ to “msgstore.db.crypt7″ or from “msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt8″ to “msgstore.db.crypt8″. 4. Install WhatsApp. 5. When asked to restore, tap Restore . You will now be able to see your restored messages. If you want to revert the restoration, simply change the backup filename back to what it was, rename “msgstore.db.crypt7.current” to “msgstore.db.crypt7″ or “msgstore.db.crypt8.current” to “msgstore.db.crypt8″, and follow these steps again. http://www.androidgist.com/how-to-recover-whatsapp-deleted-messages |
Too early to start success or failure analysis |
I have been going through this thread from the beginning to this point and here is my own contribution. First, am glad that we Nigerians have started thinking beyond oil revenue that has made our government to forget every other source of income. Now, oil prices have fallen, and what the government is doing is just to reduce the benchmark until it gets to $0. Many countries (eg Isreal, North Korea, China) that do not have natural resources like oil invested aggressively in technology and now it is paying off for them, while those oil-rich countries are crying over oil price drop. It is high time Nigeria started looking into Technology as the saviour of the economy. Venture capitals should be made available for startups with useful ideas. So many Nigerians have good ideas but due to lack of funding and unconducive business environment, those ideas still remain unrealized dreams. When it comes to software development as a means to salvage this country, I can attest to my own personal experience. For you to be on the frontline of current trends in software development, you have to commit to big R&D. For one to do his own personal R&D, he needs consistent power and internet access. Nigeria power supply is still a problem, and how much does one have to run generator for 10hrs, when it is hard to get money to buy coffee during the programming exercise. Our internet data providers are still not helping matters when it comes to research as we still experience high data charges with poor network. In conclusion, I will say that while any serious software developer will do his best despite harsh economic environment, it is only when the government fully gives attention to technology and solves fundamental issues like power, then can we know that Nigeria can make it in software development in particular and technology in general. |

As you start using your new smartphone, every operation will seem to be pretty fast. But after some time, you start noticing how slow your phone has become. This is manifested in apps taking longer time to open, apps running slowly and at some times, can lead to apps not responding. In such cases, all you need to do is to apply some tips to make the phone become fast once again. So, here are the things you can do to speed up your Android smartphone. 1. Uninstall apps you are not using Having apps you rarely use consume system resources such as the CPU time and memory which could have been allocated to more useful apps. This will make the phone to become slow as other apps will be struggling with the available resources. You just have to uninstall the apps from your phone so that the useful ones will have sufficient resources to work with. Note that some apps will require phone to be rooted before they can be uninstalled. 2. Clean up the Storage Space As you continue to download apps and other files, your storage becomes cluttered and fragmented. Some apps create temporary files during installation and will not be needed after the app starts running. Check both your internal memory and SD storage and ensure that you delete those files you really no longer need. Movies, audio and image files occupy large storage space which can make it to get filled quickly. Open your File Manager and look through all your folders especially the Download, Temp and Miscellaneous and delete the files you no longer need. 3. Move apps to SD card Most of the apps you install go straight to the internal storage. This can lead to it getting filled quickly. Apps store their data in the internal storage and if it gets low, it can cause the phone to become slow. Also, low internal storage can lead to apps to respond slowly triggering the display of that irritating “app not responding” dialog window. You just have to move most of your apps that are actually movable to external storage. Go to Manage Applications under Application Settings and move the apps. 4. Stop unneeded running apps Some background apps start running immediately your phone finished booting. Check the running services and ensure that you want them to run, else stop them to avoid hoarding limited resources and wasting your data. Also, as you open apps and move from one to another, close the ones you are no longer using so that the resources it is holding will be released. Check your recent apps and clear the ones you’re not going back to. 5. Scan your Phone against virus It could be that a hidden virus is causing your phone to run slowly because it is consuming all the resources meant for your useful apps. Install an antivirus app and carry out a complete system scan. Ensure that you download your apps from Google Play or scan every downloaded app from unknown sources before launching them. 6. Factory reset your phone If all the options above failed, you have to resort to resetting your phone. This will bring it to the state it was when you purchased it. You should note that factory-resetting your phone wipes all the data in the internal storage. So, backup your files before embarking on this journey. Ensure that you remove the external SD card to be on the safe side. Source: http://www.androidgist.com/6-ways-to-speed-up-your-android-smartphone |
