Education / Choosing GMAT Coaching Centres, Lagos - Fountainpreps by Fountainpreps: 11:39am On Sep 13, 2016
Choosing a right GMAT institute is always a tough task. Because every institute says they are the best. Isn’t it? What makes it worse is that you will find at least one guy from the institute has scored more than 720. And that makes us confused.
The best way to choose a GMAT coaching institute is to take a mock test with the institutes. Follow this up with a counselling session with an expert in these institutes. What is also important is that you take the review of existing students and if possible some seniors or someone you may know who would have prepared for GMAT before.

1) Make sure you attend atleast 1 demo class. It is not a question of money alone but your precious time. You don’t want to end up spending weeks in a coaching which is not adding value. The faculty should have taken GMAT and should speak sense (which you can figure out after a 3-4 hour class).

2) Ensure that the reasons for joining a GMAT prep course are right. there are 3 reasons for anyone to do it

(a) teach you stuff you cannot learn from a book

(b) ensure you are on the straight and narrow

Education / Passing Aptitude Test by Fountainpreps: 11:26pm On Sep 11, 2016
Increasing your aptitude test Score by 50 to 100 Points. Your score can improve dramatically simply by taking the time to become “streetwise” about the aptitude test. Quite simply, this is the easiest step in your test preparation, and should not be ignored under any circumstances. Keep in mind that the aptitude test is a game. Just as in chess, baseball, tennis, or any other sports, those who know how the game is played have a huge advantage over those who are ignorant of the game’s idiosyncratic rules. As a test taker, you should understand the computer-adaptive structure of the aptitude test and how to manage your time wisely.

The computer-adaptive structure of the aptitude test: The computer-adaptive test (CAT) version of the aptitude test is designed to get a more accurate assessment of your skills while asking you fewer questions than its paper-based predecessor did. Here is how it works: the first question you see in any given section will be of average difficulty. If you get the answer right, your next question will be slightly more difficult. If you get the answer wrong, your next question will be slightly easier. The software will also ask you different types of questions in a rather unpredictable order, as determined by its algorithm, rather than clustering question types as the written aptitude test did.

You cannot skip a question or go back to an earlier question. Unlike the paper version, once you click the ‘answer confirm’ box, your answer can not be changed.

How to manage your time wisely

Practice: The main way to develop aptitude test time management skills is to practice taking the test. You will repeatedly see us return to the theme of practice throughout this article. It is very hard to overstate its importance. Therefore you are strongly encouraged to take at least a few mock written aptitude test exams or in the computer-adaptive format and to try to simulate the actual testing environment. (That means refraining from taking food breaks, engaging in telephone conversations, etc. until you have completed a section.)
Spend adequate time on the first 5 questions: Earlier, we discussed how the aptitude test CAT’s underlying algorithm determines the difficulty of questions you are asked, based on your performance in answering previous questions. Difficult questions are weighted more heavily in scoring than easier questions. The first couple questions in any aptitude test CAT section are used to determine the range of questions that the program ‘thinks’ you are able to handle. After you have answered these first few questions, the testing software will give you questions to fine tune your score within that rather narrowly predetermined range. Thus, your answers to the first 5 questions will make a HUGE difference in your final section score.
It is imperative that you answer these pivotal questions with extra care. Always double check your answers to these questions. Verify that the answer choices that you judged to be incorrect are indeed incorrect. If you are unsure of the answer to one of these first questions, at the very least, take a very good educated guess using process of elimination.

What Is the GMAT® Exam?
The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT*) exam is a standardized exam used in admissions decisions by more than 5,200 graduate management programs worldwide. It helps you gauge, and demonstrate to schools, your academic potential for success in graduate level management studies.
The GMAT exam is delivered entirely in English and solely on computer. It is not a test of business knowledge, subject matter mastery, English vocabulary, or advanced computational skills. The GMAT exam also does not measure other factors related to success in graduate management study, such as job experience, leadership ability, motivation, and interpersonal skills. Your GMAT score is intended to be used as one admissions criterion among other, more subjective, criteria, such as admissions essays and interviews.
Myth -vs- FACT

Myth – If I don’t score in the 90th percentile, I won’t get into any school I choose.
Fact – Very few people get very high scores.
Fewer than 50 of the more than 200,000 people taking the GMAT exam each year get a perfect score of 800. Thus, while you may be exceptionally capable, the odds are against your achieving a perfect score. Admissions officers use GMAT scores in conjunction with undergraduate records, application essays, interviews, letters of recommendation, and other information when deciding whom to accept into their programs. sad

Myth – Getting an easier question means I answered the last one wrong.
Fact– Getting an easier question does not necessarily mean you got the previous question wrong.

What Is the Content of the Test Like?
The GMAT exam measures higher-order analytical skills encompassing several types of reasoning. The Analytical Writing Assessment asks you to analyze the reasoning behind an argument and respond in writing; the Integrated Reasoning section asks you to interpret and synthesize information from multiple sources and in different formats to make reasoned conclusions; the Quantitative section asks you to reason quantitatively using basic arithmetic, algebra, and geometry; and the Verbal section asks you to read and comprehend written material and to reason and evaluate arguments.
