Hello,

1. Even if you were to have your interview in the UK, you will still need a Nigerian police report if you have lived in Nigeria within the last 10-15 years. SO coming to Nigeria means you will automatically definitely need the Nigeria police report. I am assuming that they will accept the uk one even if its since May 2012 as they will probably not expect you to go to the USA for that.

2. NPC should be done in maiden name cos she wasnt using your name from birth and NPC is about her birth

dont think there is any special document required from dependents besides your police & medical reports and travel documents.

Just being nosey, did you return to nigeria cos of the interview?

Rolling_138: Congratulations to all that have been successful in their Visa interview and may God grant those of us that are yet to go for our visa interview success too.

I have a few concerns;
1. We(myself, my wife and baby) were residing in the UK when the DV results came out and we processed our UK police certificate around end of May 2012 before returning to Nigeria. The report was posted to us in Nigeria in June. Now, our interview will likely come up in Jan. 2013 (case#:2013AF00010***), will the US embassy still accept the UK Police cert. we got in June or will they reject it?

2. My wife needs to do the NPC birth certificate, should she do this using her marital name ?

3. We reside far from Lagos and would want to make the trip once to reduce the cost and stress of flying to Lagos as this will be much for the three of us. If we go to Lagos 1 week before our interview can we complete the medicals and the Alagbon police certificate before our interview ?

4. What are the documents required from the dependant family members.

5. Are families with babies allowed to take baby food inside the embassy ? .... considering the expected long wait

Thank you for all your responses.

owobabaisabella:

Pls do u know anybody in UK that won and have done their interview, just want to hear their interview experience. Pls anybody in the house that can hlp with this question?

dont know if this is still useful, the uk experience was quite nice. i was scared cos my hubby and i though had a son, was not legally married when we applied and when we won. we quickly went to hammersmith reg to tie the knot in an official way and put 2 dates of marriage an earlier one before the lottery which was actually our nigeria introduction and the rush rush official. u can imagine my fear but we were not asked a single question on it.

the only question my hubby was asked was to confirm the university and course he did for both his first degree and masters. that was all about the interview. the guy didnt even scrutinize the aos form, just glanced through! hope this helps

temmytanny: please, your contribution will be needed here to enlighten us more about US an other things.God bless you

Thanks Temmy and congratulations on your success with the lottery. Concerning jobs... My advice is two fold here 1. Start with whatever job you are able to start with to break the circle of unemployment. 2. for those with a good career background, dont start with just anything, look for the field you want to go and try starting in the mid level,if possible. these are about the two choices u have (may be prejudiced!) I was already in mid management level in the UK and was not willing to start with menial jobs when i got here, it took some time but i was able to start here in mid management again.

However, they really dont care much about employment history abroad here. You have to build your resume such that it reflects that you have been working here for like two years, get your friends and family to act as references for you and use their addresses as work address. your friends and families sud be able to help u with this. they do not check your passport to see how long u have been in the country so dont fear for that.

N.B this is just my candid opinion and its left to u 2 decide if you dont want to dress up your resume.

Gentiger:

Well I speak from my family perspective. I got the greater part of my family in the UK and US. With 7 uncles in the US of which one has a private hospital and another working with an Oil company, I speak from my experience. With a mansion of 8 bedrooms, 2 sitting rooms etc, no one is in a hurry to quit you. So my statement is from my family perspective.

Gentiger, not trying to pull issues here with you. However, you will agree with me that not everyone has such a family as yours, and i must say its quite impressive. that being said, i am assuming that you have not really been to see these your uncles and sometimes things are not as people perceive it to be, their mansions might not really be mansions, and again having a 8 bedroom mansion in Texas, North Carolina or Georgia doestnt mean u are super duper rich, cost of living is just lesser there but job opportunities are not so much around there. Your uncles do have children and they come first so do not rest on your oars believing you have unlimited stay at an uncle's place. EVERY MAN 4 HIMSELF!

For everyone else without such connections, my candid advise from a Nigerian to another is this, get the driving test manual of the state you land in ASAP, and learn it well. You may not be able to sit for the test until you get your social security and green card as you may need 6 points of identification to book the exam but reading before all the documents come will help u write the exams early. Also, its always better to go apply for your social security as soon as possible cos some districts take longer than others. to be continued...

Gentiger:

I have form i-134 in my laptop and I am very conversant with the numbers Kemzone referred to.

If your relatives send you such vital document with a view to house and feed you till you can fend for yourself, how does that affect him? One thing you can never lack in the States is good food, clothings and shelter from your host. What more do you want? I no get bush around my Festac residence to beat around o.

Gentiger, who told you one thing u can never lack is 'good food, clothings and shelter from your host' believe me, thats just for the first few weeks you are there. 80% of the time people start getting cranky when u dont pull your weight around the house by looking for job, or moving out e.t.c. Depending on where u stay, job vacancies vary... its not always that easy! With my hubby's qualifications and mine from from the UK it took us abt 6 months to get good jobs & i was already thinking of going back to the UK when the Lord opened the doors of opportunities. Also, sometimes people come with big expectations for their host, please understand that your host is also trying their best to live well & may not be able to clothe u as u think.

Help guys my interview is on november.but my accommodate person who live in us refuse me. So what shall I do

what do u mean the personrefused u? u mean refused to give u AOS or refused to let you stay with them?
Travel / Re: DV 2013 Winners Meet Here by foworola: 4:35pm On Oct 13, 2012
There has been a lot of back & forth with this AOS thing & i just have 2 say a thing or tow about it. my hubby won 2010 & we went from the UK so our experience is a bit different from a lot of people on this forum.

AOS affidavit is a very detailed document that entails ALL about your host. that document could be used to destroy someone's financial life in this country. So, 95% of people may not be able to give it 2 anyone except their immediate family. I personally can not give it to a friend cos i don't want to put my family into trouble if this friend decides to be fraudulent, which happens! Also, the affidavit is saying that this person will be responsible for you in the capacity they stated in the form, so if i say i am giving u a certain amount or accommodation, that means you can sue me for not giving it & you will win cos once the form is signed by a notary then its legal. there have been sad instances in the past when this have happened to people trying to help others.

My advice is that you can request from a friend gently but do not ask more than once if you have to. this is cos some people don't know how to say no so instead they wont pick your call again. you have thereby indirectly destroyed that relationship or whatever help you may have been able to get from the person.

Thank God you don't need it in Nigeria, so ... its your call
