The Presidency has reacted angrily to the allegations by the All Progressives Congress that President Goodluck Jonathan’s visit to Lagos on Thursday was part of the plot to rig the Saturday’s gubernatorial election in the state.
APC’s spokesperson, Lai Muhammed, had said that Mr. Jonathan visited the nation’s commercial capital to fashion ways of rigging the election in favour candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Jimi Agbaje.
But the Special Adviser the President on Media and Public Affairs, Reuben Abati, in a swift reaction said the allegation was wrong.
“Lai Muhammed is wrong to say that the President came to Lagos to rig the gubernatorial and state house of assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, April 11,” the presidency said.
“He is of course lying as usual. And rude. President Jonathan visited Lagos. He arrived on Thursday and left on Friday. People visited him. So what?
“Anytime the president is in Lagos or any part of the country, a lot of people come to pay homage to him. Nothing unusual happened during his last visit to Lagos.
“Senator Musiliu Obanikoro’s visit to the president in Lagos is not something that anybody should use to play politics. Koro is a minister of the Federal Republic. He came to see his boss.”
Apart from Mr. Obanikoro, he said Messrs Jimmy Agbaje and Gani Adams, among others, visited the president while in Lagos.
The presidency wondered why Mr. Jonathan’s visit to Lagos which is a part of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the visit of PDP members to the leader of their party should become an issue.
It argued that Mr. Jonathan never summoned or held meetings with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, the police, polling officials or persons involved in the conduct of the anticipated election.
“So to say that the president went to Lagos to supervise the rigging of Saturday’s election is most uncharitable and cruel,” the presidency said.
Even before the result of the presidential election results were declared by INEC, it said Mr. Jonathan called the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari and congratulated him.
The presidency insisted that the whole world is still commending Mr. Jonathan for taking the action which it said saved Nigeria.
It said the action exemplified the president’s sportsmanship, statesmanship and leadership at a very critical moment.
Besides, it said Mr. Jonathan has demonstrated commitment to free and fair election, the rule of law and due process, thereby showing character, honour and integrity.
The presidency noted that Mr. Jonathan has left a worthy legacy, adding that the APC spokesperson and his masters are wont to taint the legacy by cooking up meaningless tales.
“Lai Muhammed should look for another target and leave the President alone. His fatuous tale does not make any sense.
“I repeat: We will like to advise that the APC should just leave the President alone. President Jonathan was a candidate in the presidential election; he did not rig the election. Why would he want to rig tomorrow’s elections?” the presidency asked.
The Peoples Democratic Party had earlier condemned the APC’s allegation, wondering why the party should accuse the president when the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, who is its leader, had visited several states to support APC’s governorship candidates, without anyone accusing him of plotting to rig.

Few weeks to the inauguration of a new government, the fear of the President-Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari is already driving corrupt officials under the out-going Goodluck Jonathan administration, out of the country.

Buhari has declared that the fight against corruption will be a major drive of his in-coming administration.

It was gathered that following her failure to get President Jonathan and ex-Head of state, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar secure a soft landing deal for her from Gen Buhari last weekend, controversial Nigeria’s Petroleum Minister, Mrs Diezani Alison Madueke has fled the country to the United Kingdom, from where she might escape to a safe haven.

A reliable source in the presidential villa said that “madam had to take off far ahead of the inauguration of the government of Gen Buhari because she is scared he may turn his searchlight on the oil sector.”Ironically, the minister who is widely known to travel around in private jets had to travel this time in the first class cabin of the British Airways flight.

When contacted to confirm the Minister’s whereabout, one of her aides who pleaded for anonymity confirmed Mrs Alison-Madueke indeed left the country on Monday morning but gave a different reason for the trip. According to the minister’s aide “it is true the Hon. Minister traveled but she went to take care of her health because she has been down medically and she needs proper medical attention.”

On when the Minister will be back in the country, the aide said “no one can say when she will be back. That depends on her health and the advice of her doctors. She may come before May 29, she may decide to stay back with her children over there till anytime to take care of herself.”

It was however learnt that the once powerful woman feigned sickness and actually pretended to be seriously sick while going through immigration at the airport departure lounge over fears that she might be stopped from fleeing the country.

Nigerians are waiting to see Mrs Alison-Madueke account for the $20 billion former CBN governor and now Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has continued to insist was diverted from the federation account by the Minister and her cronies in NNPC.

Apart from this, a group of whistleblowers against corruption has accused Diezani Alison-Madueke, of squandering millions of dollars of public funds to rent private jets for the conduct of her official activities. In a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the group, known as Crusader for Good Governance, demanded that Ms. Allison-Madueke be investigated for her habit of spending extravagant sums to rent private jets for her official hops.

In 2010, President Jonathan appointed Mrs. Alison-Madueke to the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the nerve center of the Nigerian economy and traditionally the vortex of corruption in a country that is widely regarded as one of the most corrupt in the world.

Since being appointed minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Alison-Madueke has become one of the most powerful Nigerian government officials. Several reports have linked her to sleazy oil deals and a penchant for wastage of public funds.

They are otherwise known as volatile states.

From the political happenings, it's obvious that the following states could be termed volatile:

1) Rivers State: Amaechi complained of army harassment, malpractices, during the last presidential election. APC even called for the cancellation of the results from Rivers.
Of course, incidences of killings, violence were also recorded in various parts of the state.

So this time around, Amaechi would want to do everything within his powers, ( remember he now had 'oga at the top') to ensure that APC Candidate wins the gubernatorial election in rivers.

On the other hand, Wike who has the backings of the presidency would also do all he can to ensure he wins.

So it's a fight to finish...

2)Lagos State: APC, the ruling party would do all it could to ensure it retains power, especially now that APC is about to control the federal government. APC can't afford to lose Lagos state.

On the other hand, PDP, haven lost the federal government, would do all it can to ensure it wins Lagos state.

The Oba of Lagos alleged threat may also play a role in making Lagos a hot zone during the coming governorship elections.

3 Imo State: It's obvious that PDP would likely win in most of the south eastern states. But Okorocha would want to do all he can to ensure that APC wins. Okorocha cannot afford to lose IMO now that APC would call the shots at the federal government level. But PDP would equally fight to ensure Okorocha loses power.
Recall, during the last presidential elections, Okorocha alleged of army harassment of APC members.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has dismissed what he said was a purported impeachment notice posted online by the All Progressives Congress lawmakers in the State House of Assembly, saying he was yet to be served any impeachment notice.
Mr. Fayose, stated this while speaking during a TV programme, “Meet Your Governor”, aired on the State Television, EKTV, Ekiti Radio, Progress FM and NTA, Ado Ekiti on Monday.
Nineteen All Progressives Congress, APC, lawmakers in the state had while issued a notice of impeachment to the governor, giving him 7 days to respond to the allegations of gross misconduct against him and his deputy.
Mr. Fayose described those plotting his impeachment as the same enemies of Ekiti State that plotted his exit from office in 2006.
“Nobody served me any impeachment notice. I only saw the notice online like every other person,” he said.
The governor, who described himself as an Israeli said; “I’m like Israel that is in the midst of enemies but will always prevail. Whoever wants to remove me will first have to impeach God.”
He said the APC members were trying to get at him because he wholeheartedly supported President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid.
“They are doing all these just to get at me because of my support for President Jonathan and I have no regret for supporting the president.
“Let me say it again, I have not been served any impeachment notice. The House of Assembly is also on recess and Dr Adewale Omirin is not the speaker of the State House of Assembly.
“Omirin is in court, challenging his impeachment and he can’t be challenging his impeachment in court and at the same time laying claim to being Speaker,” he said.
While urging the APC to accept defeat as done by President Jonathan and the PDP, Mr. Fayose said, “By the power of God, they lost 16 – 0 on June 21, 2014, they lost 16 – 0 again on March 28, they will lose 26 – 0 on Saturday, April 11,” he said.
