If no ransom was reportedly paid, it means the victims where released in exchange for some detained bandits.

Usually once agreement is reached between the two parties ( bandit leaders and government officials or security operatives) either for ransom or release of their members, they will drop the girls in a location very far from their base and ask the operative to go and pick the girls there.

Mind you, their victims are usually blindfolded before taking them to any location for pickup.
