PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A man has been charged after a fight on a SEPTA platform in the University City section of Philadelphia caused the victim to fall onto the tracks, where was struck and killed by a train.

The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office said 40-year-old Chaz Wearing, who has no fixed address, is in custody and charged with involuntary manslaughter

Charges are subject to change if new information is obtained by authorities, the district attorney's office said Friday.

Wearing has a warrant for a strangulation case in Delaware County, and the D.A.'s office said his criminal history spans other Pennsylvania counties including Clinton County and Lycoming County.

"Both of the individuals involved in this were not using the system for its intended purpose," said SEPTA's Chief of Police Chuck Lawson.

The deadly incident happened at the 34th Street Station around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Video that has surfaced on social media shows two males involved in a fight. Police confirm they are reviewing the video as part of their investigationAt one point, one of the men involved punches the other, forcing him to fall onto the tracks. Moments later, the train on the Market-Frankford Line hits the man, killing him.



A SEPTA spokesperson told Action News the man who was seen on video throwing a punch, now identified as Wearing, was taken into custody at 40th and Market streets.

"We have a history with the offender in this case. We certainly know him from other contacts, a long criminal history. The victim in this case we really had no prior contacts with. However, he had also a long criminal history," Lawson said.

The person who was killed has not been identified.

"We had transit police at the station at the time. They had just left the platform that's how quick this occurred," Lawson said.

Riders say violence on the transit system is ongoing.

"It's not too surprising," said Jennifer McCray, from Upper Darby. "It has increased a lot in the past few years, especially post-pandemic. I think there could be more police presence to contain the crowd and violence."

SEPTA said it is working on a plan to reach out to unhoused people on its system, but legally not much more can be done on its part.

"We're struggling to get our hands around those folks and as it stands neither me and the transit police department, or SEPTA as a whole is going to solve those problems by ourselves. We need help," Lawson said.

Police are still investigating what sparked the altercation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police.

A man was discovered Thursday hidden in the landing gear compartment of a commercial aircraft that flew into Paris from Algeria with severe hypothermia but alive, French authorities said.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, was found during technical checks after the Air Algerie flight from Oran, Algeria, landed at Paris’s Orly airport in mid-morning, prosecutors told AFP.

He had no ID on him, and was taken to hospital in serious condition, they said.

An airport source earlier reported that the man “was alive but in a life-threatening condition because of severe hypothermia”.

Commercial aircraft cruise at 30,000 to 40,000 feet altitude where temperatures typically drop to around -50 degrees Celsius (-58F), and a lack of oxygen makes survival unlikely for anyone travelling in a landing gear compartment which is neither heated nor pressurised.

According to US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) data cited in media, 132 people — known in the industry as wheel-well stowaways — tried to travel in the landing gear compartments of commercial aircraft between 1947 and 2021.

In April of this year, the body of a man was discovered in the landing gear of an aircraft in Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport that had flown in from Toronto, but previously took off from Nigeria.

Four months earlier, two passengers were found dead on arrival in the landing gear storage space of a flight between Santiago de Chile and Bogota.

In July 2019, the frozen body of a man fell into a garden in a London suburb, believed to have been in the landing gear compartment of a Kenya Airways plane approaching Heathrow airport.

The mortality rate for people attempting to travel this way is 77 percent, according to the FAA figures.

Woman Who Bragged On Social Media About Her New Job At A Luxury Store Sacked Before First Shift

An online video of how a young woman was sacked by a renowned company in the UK company even before she began her first shift has got many people talking.

Recently employed by Harrods, the lady identified as Akorede but known on TikTok as @korrxss, disclosed that she had not yet started her first shift when she received the notice of termination from the company.

Before the viral video of her dismissal, she had gone viral with a previous video in which she talked enthusiastically about her job at the UK-based luxury department store.

In that first video, she suggested that her social class has shot up because of her new employment, stating at one point:

But in the second video, her story changes. Sounding disappointed, she told her followers on TikTok that she didn’t even do her first shift at Harrods before she got fired for going on social media.

Akorede wondered who may have sent the footage to the employer after she was fired. She gave the situation further thought and concluded that it taught her an important lesson to avoid posting pleasant news on the internet.

“I got fired! Before I even did my first shift, I got fired. Someone must have sent the video ‘cos I don’t know how they must have found it. I took that video after I attended my induction; I’ve not even attended my first shift.

“That was really sad. I learnt a really valuable lesson; don’t ever tell good news to people or the internet, keep it to yourself. Upon reflection, that was kind of a shitty video; I was just joking and was just excited,” she said in part.
