Manager, Maintenance and Repair
Key Responsibilities
 Ensures that the overhauls, preventative maintenance and repair of the vehicle fleet and other port equipment are maintained and/or repaired in a cost effective manner, with consideration given to quality and longer duration of equipment.
 Supervises the maintenance and repair of all of the vehicle fleet, including tractor trailers, Reach Stackers and other technical support equipment (electrical, electronic and mechanical).

 Ensures that planning, scheduling, and unscheduled repairs are carried out efficiently and cost effectively, with quality service.
 Oversees the administrative requirements of the Workshop, including warranty obligations, inspection records, manual updates, equipment defect reports, maintenance services, policies, procedures, and practices.
 Reviews and recommends updates to maintenance services policies and procedures to ensure quality, reliability, and efficiencies.
 Reviews new equipment for suitability and makes recommendations, based on cost, availability, and needs of business operations.

Who we are looking for
We are looking for an individual with the following qualifications;
 Requires at least a high school diploma and additional vocational/technical education or a degree in Mechanical, Electrical engineering. Also must have additional training in both electrical and mechanical fields in any heavy industry.
 Requires at least five to seven years of general supervisory experience in general maintenance section in any ports, mines, steel and manufacturing plants. Must have an additional five years of progressively more responsible maintenance and repair experience, including specific knowledge of electrical, electronic and mechanical and related subjects.
 Requires specific technical knowledge of maintenance and repair of various vehicles, including tractor trailers, reach stackers and mobile cranes.
 Must be able to interpret engineering drawings, layouts, and specifications.

There are 3 major type of Snails in Nigeria and are said to be the largest in the world; The Achatina Marginata (AM), The Achatina Achatina (AA), and The Achatina Fullica (AF). The AM is peculiar to Nigeria Alone and is usually d largest among all the snails on earth and can produce up to 40 eggs in a clutch & will produce such clutches 3 to 4 times a year & it takes between 21 to 40 days for the eggs to hatch, The AA is d 2nd largest also in Nigeria and other countries and can lay up to 200 to 500 eggs in a clutch up to 3 to 5 clutches in a year, it also takes 21 to 28 days for d AA eggs and has an exclusively more whorls with longer and pointed ends which is similar with the Achatina Fulica in features.

The Achatina Marginata breed which are believed to be the largest in the world can be discouraging and unsuitable for a profitable and commercial snail farm business as its only commercial significance is its giant size and nothing more. The AM is only prized for its large size as it is the largest among all snails in comparison to the AA and AF but low in egg production as it produces between 6 to 40 eggs maximum per clutch while the AF and AA produces between 200 to 500 eggs per clutch. The AM is slow in growth, more exhaustive and cost more to manage. It takes the AM between 21 to 40 days to hatch and 8 to 9 months before it starts the laying of eggs while the AF and AA takes less time to grow and to lay it eggs between and reaches maturity within 4 to 6 months and lay far more eggs with more comparative economic advantage. The type of breed employed for snail farming is very important so that your hope of financial freedom is not dashed in the course of a zestful venture encumbered with willful exuberance. Therefore make sure you select the right stock for breeding from snail farmers and seek for proper consultation and be vast in your research and very open minded in your resource and information sharing. please lets not restrain nor hoard information from the reach of aspiring and intending snail farmers.

Snails grow faster when there is darkness, ease of movement and enough feeds, fruits, calcium supplement, root crops and vegetables for them to produce high quality and quantity of eggs. Snail farming can be started with a budget of between 20k and 500k to include its pen set up and the required breeding stock supply. Ironically, the AM is more in demand if your prospect market is Local and Nigerian market alone as its most preferred; but if your target market is for export market to Europe, USA, Asia, South Africa in deshelled, dried, processed and well package and branded form, then the AA and the AF is your best bet for a more economic sense. the asian countries are best bet for snail export market as its audience population is more than 3 billion of the worlds population. As China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Myanmar, Indonesia, Vietnam are major destination. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Monday, launched a two-million dollars government’s agricultural and private sector strategy to promote the development of Nigeria’s agriculture sector.

U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission, Ms Maria Brewer, at the launch at the U.S. Embassy, Abuja said that the two years partnership was with two local companies including Babban Gona and Hello Tractor.

According to her the two partnerships aimed at increasing access to smart tractors, improved seeds, and profitable markets for over 45,000 smallholder farmers across seven states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Brewer explained that under the first partnership, Babban Gona helps to address economy of scale problems for smallholder farmers by forming cooperatives called “trust groups. Over the next two years, Babban Gona will help more than 20,000 small holder farmers in five states increase yield and potentially increase their income up to 30 per cent. The success of this partnership will support Hello Tractors sales, while providing 115 young people with an opportunity to build businesses in providing tractor hiring services.

Access to tractor services

“Improved access to tractor services will allow 24,500 small holder farmers across three states to boost their productivity and gain higher revenues for their households,” she said.

According to her with these partnerships, the U.S. government’s Feed the Future Partnering for Innovation programme will provide training, financing, and mentoring opportunities to experienced entrepreneurs to young agricultural entrepreneurs alike.

The Minister of Agriculture Chief Audu Ogbe at the launch commended USAID for its support for Nigeria at its critical moment. Ogbe harped on the need for investment in agricultural sector which he said was key to economic development.

“There is future in agriculture, if you invest in it you are securing your future, if we don’t invest in agriculture there may not be a place to call our nation in future. If we don’t deal with the food challenge, we will never be able to cope with the food challenge,” he said. The USAID Mission Director in Nigeria, Mr Michael Harvey said that under the Feed the Future initiative USAID partners with private sector to support smallholder farmers in Nigeria.

According to him through these partnerships USAID addresses development and business challenges by increasing access to improved agricultural inputs and mechanisation, better quality technical advisory services, and expanding market opportunities for smallholder farmers. “These partnerships capitalises on the untapped potential of youth in agriculture and helped build capacity of young entrepreneurs to help grow their businesses, create jobs and boost economic growth in Nigeria,” he said

The Chief Executive Officer of Hello Tractor, Mr Jehiel Oliver, said that through the partnership smallholder farmers would gain access to tractor services.

Oliver said that the collaboration would afford 100 youth entrepreneurs on the business opportunity of owning and maintaining a fleet of smart tractors.

He added that some 15 young technicians would benefits from trade skills to repair Smart Tractor. A representative of Babban Gona, Ms Chinwe Osuji, said that through the partnership the company would create positive impact for 20,000 smallholder farmers.

She said that the company addressed the challenge of small farmers by forming strong cooperatives called Trust Groups, which enable farmers to gain access to new markets and sell at premium.

She said that Baban Gona provided member farmers with services designed to optimised crop yields production costs, and prices of agricultural outputs.

She said that the model helps to increase profitability of smallholder farmers and contributes to household food security and improved livelihoods.

How do you ever think I can be interested anymore? Lol. The questions and assumptions I raised here are what your staff will explain to me when you the assumed owner cannot. Come on!

You put an advert on a public forum and someone has concerns which are common to the Nigerian society but you cannot counter the so called assumptions and answer the questions you find there.

I am no more interested. In fact, i went through another thread of yours on Palm oil where you wrote that mechanized clearing is more expensive than cutlasses and axe clearing system. Come on! Seriously? People work in South West too. Come on! It may be more expensive for ONLY you cos the guys find your road terribble. If tractor or bulldozer person finds your place expensive, how much do you expect palm oil kegs and other things moved out?

In addition, you advised getting land "inside, inside" a remote area because of owners fraudulent activities. Seriously, you wrote that? As soon as I read that I gave up. I understand your frustrations. If any farm is too far from the main road and I have to ride on a bike for even 10 mins, I do not take it. Never and never. I repeat Never! Unless you are able to show me that it is not far from the main road. I do not need to waste my precious time to visit your farm before you give me such answer and your so called centre coordinates of your farm cannot realy address this issue. Even if it answers the distance which is possible if the main road is on the map, it will never give the condition of the road. This is always my first question. There is nothing wrong in an honest offerer giving the true state of the road. It is expected of you and it is just what is right to do. If you think one must enter your farm before he knows about this, then, the person should be ready to unravel so many hidden issues. A beg, i am no longer interested in your offer anymore. Another theory to the above paragraph is that you just did not know where to get good agricultural land clearing service. How can you say manual clearing is cheaper? Obviously wrong choices were made.

And the two paragraphs are assumptions again to you? But those assumptions are to bring out real fact you should address but you prefer to allow your staff answer privately. Or you answer after I have wasted my time going "inside inside" a bush. The way we do business in this country baffles me.

But funny, a lady contacted me two months ago about leasing her farm. After interrogation, she saw reasons to try again. And I ended up partnering with her because she was so straight forward. I was ready to sacrifice the rigorous and terrible road. Her personality, openness, truthfulness at the time she could have lied just to get me send her money made me partner with her. I look out for good character and truthfulness and being straight forward first. For me, it is character before skills. And it is why I employ unskilled workers with good character who I can train, and dump skillful workers with questionable character.

And you still expect me to visit your farm? The "grey" areas you cannot make straight or correct here are what your staff will attend to when you the owner is not able to. Doesn't that look very funny? Or perhaps, you are not the owner yourself and it makes sense if you are not.

The last assumption is that perhaps you aren't the owner and after the owner had been frustrated, he decided to lease it out and you will get your cut from it too.

Sure, these are assumptions and possible theories but they make sense. And this is how lawyers "interrogate" in courts. They bring out facts from assumptions. You do not need to answer or address them but we already have an idea of what to meet there and the kind of responses we will start getting as your tenant/partner after signing a contract with you. This is purely psychology. Your style says a lot to me.

I do not need to ask further questions and I do not need to press it further if it was one-on-one with me. Also, I do not need to really make you understand why the so called assumptions are needed to be addressed. But for the fact that this is a public forum, I need to make readers see the reasons. If it were one-on-one and you gave me such first response, your offer is already in my gabbage and case closed after your first response.

Also, I read where you advised against buying tractors to do farming activities but to rent from government offices. While I agree it is nice at the initial stage of setting up a farm but your kind of big land needs tractor of its own which must be on the farm. In fact, there was someone I met recently who is just starting and he is also bringing in a tractor and many other equipment and I was trying to caution him but he felt he knows all. I just left him alone. Lol. It seems you made so many wrong choices. You bought the tractor too early and there are many people like you who I have corrected. The ones that listened to me and humbly asked for help have the reasons to smile today while the ones that were angry after interrogation are still there. So, you want me to repair your non working tractor and you called the offer juicy? You handed over to me a non working tractor but you think what makes your tractor not to work cannot make some other equipment not to work at the end of our contract?
