Jobs/Vacancies / Letter To The Frustrated Unemployed Youth - Part 1 by Frawzey: 5:00am On Jan 22, 2018
You are in your twenties or mid thirties and you are tired of all that you are going through. It took 2 years to get your first job - your one and only job - but you lost it during the recession last year. The job you lost is a classic example of being underemployed, because you were paid a little above the minimum wage. But you took it so that you'd wake up every morning with a sense of purpose as you know millions would kill to have the job. Deep down, this isn't the life you thought you'd be living at this age. While growing up, you had audacious goals and ensured you had good grades up until you left the university/polytechnic. But now, it seems your drive, energy and past achievements are worthless.

You have asked yourself several times what Nigeria has really done for you. Yet you still hang in there.

The older generation says the youths of nowadays are lazy but you know you are not. You apply to 50 job postings everyday, attend free vocational training programmes whenever they pop up on your feed and you're even willing to volunteer for companies in your desired industry. But all these have not yielded any fruit. You started a small buying and selling business that got killed by last year's naira-dollar exchange rate. And now it seems as though you are losing your passion to do anything, you have lost your mojo - the drive that you once had has fizzled out. Most times you are broke. You need money to get some things but you are tired of having to ask your parents every single time and you don't want to border your friends because you know they also don't have enough to share. There are times you find yourself alone, moody and sad, thinking of what else you can do to live your dreams. Its even worse when you are physically challenged because, really, people will never know what you go through EVERY SINGLE DAY! All you want to do is break lose from this shackle of stagnancy and live a good life.

And you have asked yourself several times what Nigeria has really done for you. Yet you still hang in there.

You are depressed because you're stuck. It seems you're the only one not making progress in life. You have sought for help from family and friends to no avail. You have prayed and fasted. All you do now is watch football matches and spend these depressing times on social media. Your confidence level has plummeted. You're now the joke in your neighbourhood and you find it really difficult to go out sometimes. So you stay indoors wrestling with suicidal thoughts. You have thrown out all sense of hope: the hope that you had upon getting your degree, the hope that you'd get married at a particular age, the hope that you'd be able to help your young ones as they're in school, the hope that you'd repay your parents for all they've done for you - especially your single mother who gave all for your education, the hope that you'd be who you've always wanted to be. You're psychologically overwhelmed and you just want to throw in the towel and end it all.

And you have asked yourself several times what has Nigeria done for you in all these to help solve your problem. Yet you hang in there.

So what can you do?

...to be continued in Part 2.

Alicia Keys on her Facebook Page, she writes:

"The day I wrote this song, I was sitting in a circle of people of all ages and we were asked, “Why are you here.” Why am I here? This really hit me on a deep level. I realized no one had ever asked me that question before.
As I prepare to give birth to a new child, I can’t help and think about the world I’m bringing my baby into. No matter where we come from, when we see the state of the world today, we can all feel the growing frustration and desire to make a difference. And we all have a voice – we just need to know how to make it heard.
I have a vision that I believe is more than a dream, that I know can be our reality.

I believe in an empowered world community built on the true meaning of equality – where we are all considered one people, regardless of race, religion, gender, zip code, belief system or intimate orientation.
I believe all of our voices should be heard, so that our representation reflects our population. We need our leadership to reflect an equal balance of the gifts that both men and women have to offer.
I believe in a world where every child born receives a quality education – where their unique gifts are nurtured so that they may be a beneficial presence in this world.
I believe in mutual respect and cooperation among all peoples and all nations. It is time to end all forms of racial injustice for our black brothers and sisters and all people of color.
I believe in an end to the prison industrial complex in America and a renewed justice system that is based on fairness and truth."

She continues on her page to say:

"I believe in universal global health care based on Integrative Medicine, so that our bodies are acknowledged and treated as one system, and we can help control the spread of diseases like AIDS, Malaria, TB and Ebola.
I believe we have an ability to end poverty, oppression, and hopelessness that often breeds despair, terror, and violence.
I believe in common sense gun laws that serve to protect children and families and society from unnecessary violence.
I believe in Peace & Love & Unity.
I believe that this vision can be a reality.
And, it’s not about me. It’s about WE.
Together we can give birth to a kinder and more peaceful world for ALL children.
Our souls were brought together so that we can love each other sister, brother. We Are Here. We are here for all of us. That’s why #WeAreHere.

Health / Dr. Ola Orekunrin – Nigerian Next Generation Leader by Frawzey: 9:52pm On Sep 21, 2014
TIME Magazine named its five Next Generation Leaders [url="http://time.com/collection/next-generation-leaders/"]here[/url]. Among them is Ola Orekunrin, 28, a Nigerian Doctor, born and raised in England. She graduated as one of the youngest doctors in the United Kingdom - at the age of 21 - from the University of York. Also a trained helicopter pilot, inspired by the death of her younger sister, Ola founded The Flying Doctors - an air ambulance service for prompt response in times of medical emergencies.

[img]http://timedotcom.files./2014/09/nextgen_orekunrin_v.jpg[/img]

Below is the interview she had with Times Monica Mark

What inspired you to start Flying Doctors Nigeria?
This was mainly inspired by my younger [12-year-old] sister dying, here in Nigeria, because she couldn’t access an emergency service.

There wasn’t an air ambulance service in Nigeria when you started out. How did you know where to start?
I think if you look across the developing world as a whole there’s a lot of opportunities from the West that can sort of be hacked and brought to Africa – sometimes even in an improved form.

Who are your typical patients?
There are private patients and they usually come from corporations or insurance companies, and that’s across West Africa. There’s also the government [contracts]. So sometimes if there’s a disaster – some sort of road disaster, or a terrorist disaster – then the government here or in another country will tell us to come in and evacuate the patients to better hospitals. [We partner] with NGOs as well.

You now run a team of seven senior physicians as well as support staff. Do you have time to be on deck these days?
I try and do a bit of both the clinical and the management. A lot of our patients are very sick and require a very specialist skill set. We usually work in two or three doctor crews.

What happens when you get a call?
It depends. Sometimes [the patient will] just be brought in to Lagos. If they’re being flown in from quite a remote part of Nigeria then Lagos and Abuja are usually their destinations. We [also] get patients flown in from Mali, from Chad, from Niger, into Nigeria for treatment.
And then obviously the whole of the offshore industry relies on helicopter air ambulances also to bring people who have been injured, or [fallen] ill offshore, onto the shore for treatment.

So you could pick someone up from Kaduna, in northern Nigeria, now and fly him or her to London in a few hours?
Yes. There’s a huge British expatriate community here and we fly them to London if they need it.

Have you ever had a patient whose injuries stayed with you?
If you speak to any of our doctors they’ll all give you a different story. [For me] there was an injury [caused by Islamist militant group Boko Haram] where the gentleman had been shot in the face and most of his face was gone. He actually ended up having to be flown to London for reconstructive surgery. Looking at a human being who had most of his face gone was definitely something that stayed with me.

What happened to him?
Half of his face was actually removed by the bullet. That stayed with me because he was supposed to get married the next week. It was really, really heart-rending – his main concern was for his wife-to-be not to see him in that state. And I was so glad when I saw what [the surgeons] had done; it was a complete transformation.

Did the marriage go ahead in the end?
He did get married in the end?

mascot87: May i be priviledged to be among them in Jesus name. Can someone pls help me to shout a big Amen!!!!

Amen. But Chinese dont know about Christ yet their middle-class is expanding like wild-fire.

We need to take initiative in Africa and stop boasting about minions!

The truth is, Africa is the region with the highest return rate on investment. Although quite sad, even at this time and age, is that africans are not at the fore-front of these investments. For instance, 80% of the shares in the Nigerian Stock Exchange are owned by foreigners. In China, once you want to invest in Africa there's a government programme that allows you take a zero percent interest loan.

But here in Africa, a young brilliant graduate with the drive and business acumen will not have access to loan. If luck shines on him by getting the loan, perhaps through collaterals of friends and families, he/she would pay through his throat.

This is clearly our moment. While unemployment is on the rise, small businesses should be encouraged

Until Africans own Africa and empower small businesses, provide infrastructure for making it easy to do business, droplets of the investment opportunity will continue to tap hit our cups.

Mr. Singh has not had his bath or cut his 6ft-long dreadlocks since 1974, shortly after he got married.
He explained his bizarre decision, claiming that a priest assured him he was going to have a son if he followed the advice – a religious advice which clearly failed, he had seven daughters.

Probably an Hindu priest. Thou religion!

I can bet that if A Pastor/Imam tells 70% of nigerians to do this, they would gladly live their lives even influencing their kids not to take their bath until ''miracle'' happens. Many a pastor have slept with barren woman because "The Lord said...they should live with the pastor for so so so days". hahahaha

For those who adore and worship Pastors and Imams instruction above God, over to you.

Sincere 9gerian: So bottomline, I think I and many Nigerians are justified in holding on TENACIOUSLY to one-eyed politicians/political leaders in a country of very blind politicians. More so when those trying to push out these one-eyed politicians/political leaders are doing so for political reasons.

So if your daughter forges her university degree and you discover it, you would leave her alone, ignore it because some other students have done worse (like sleeping with lecturers, doing por.no-graphy & crack cocaine in school) and are walking freely on the street of life? Sule!

Sincere 9gerian:
Those without sin should cast the first stone.

In country of blind political leaders, we cannot afford to keep forcing the one-eyed ones out of govt. Let the one-eyed ones stay put until those with both eyes intact are able to penetrate the system.

And tribalism has no place here because if someone like Akinwumi Adeshina was the person involved, I wouldn't mind joining the protest urging him to stay put.

#Stella Oduah stays

See this rubbish analogy!!! It would be helpful for you to note that Salisu Buhari was removed as the speaker -even as the 4th most powerful man in government - when we discovered he used fake certificates from UT (University of Toronto).

Now you "sin-seer" nigerian see no 'sin' in what Oduah has done probably because you are a huckster of this administration or you come from her geo-poli zone. You see why people keep saying this government is at the apex of tribalism like the Shagari regime?

So many scandals around the woman, yet Mr President has kept mum about it. 2015 is coming!

Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision.

Akpabio isn't the one begging Mr Speaker. He's just a messenger. Mr President is the one doing the begging.

Since rumour about the 42 members of reps who would likely decamp to APC has been going around, the game has changed and Mr President has become jittery. But the coast is not clear yet for Tambuwal as he's yet to take a public stand and declare for APC. He doesnt want to be used and dumped and clearly knows how funny politics can be.

All in all, when Mr President is ready to make peace with other members of the party, he would first of all give Amaechi what he cunningly snatched away from him. Secondly, he would respect the stance of party members in the scheme of things. Else, Mr President would be impeached.......and bombs would go off as we had it in 2010 and now in Rivers High Court. no be me talk am o
