Gustavo Poyet 'honoured' to lose against Barcelona's Lionel Messi
Former Real Betis coach Gustavo Poyet says coaching a side against Lionel Messi is an honour which no one can take away from him.

Messi scored two goals and created another as Barcelona beat Real Betis 6-2 at Camp Nou on the opening day of the La Liga season.

It was Poyet's first game in charge of the Seville-based side and while his team were comfortably beaten, he has fond memories of witnessing Messi up close.

"I maintain the memory of that game, the first in La Liga this season," the now Shanghai Shenhua manager told Diario Sport.

"We made them uncomfortable at 1-1... Until [Messi] decided that it was over. He took the ball on the wing -- in front of me -- and when he started, I understood.

"I don't know how this will sound, but to have had Messi one metre away, to have suffered and enjoyed him so close, it's an honour which no one will take away from me.

"It's one thing [to see him] on television, but this is another thing, the closeness with which I experienced him."

To be the best team in the world, sometimes you have to go through hell.

Barcelona take the field on Thursday night to play the first leg of the Copa del Rey quarterfinals against Real Sociedad at the Anoeta Stadium, A.K.A. "The Stadium of Hell" if you're a Barcelona fan. The Catalan giants have not won a single game at Anoeta since 2007. It's a real curse that can't be broken, and not even the 'MSN' trio or the mighty Pep Guardiola teams were able to break it.

This time, things are different, however. It's a Cup game, which means that even a draw will be a good result for Barça, especially if they score one or two away goals. The Anoeta Curse doesn't need to be broken for Barça to be happy, but if the team is able to win at the Stadium of Hell, then both the Cup quarterfinals and the Curse will be over.

Lionel Messi's father makes big announcement about Barcelona contract renewal

Zinedine Zidane admits Real Madrid’s loss at Sevilla on Sunday night may have damaged his side psychologically for their Copa Del Rey defeat to Celta Vigo.

Goals from Iago Aspas inflicted Madrid’s first home defeat of Zidane’s era and their first in a cup competition since Jose Mourinho was manager, but he is not worried this will have a lasting impact for the season.
