Politics / PDP Ticket: You’re My Friend, But I Won’t Work For You, Ayu Tells Atiku by Freddywong: 1:52pm On Apr 29, 2022
...I deserve the right refusal, I have 11m votes in the kitty-Atiku

John Alechenu, Abuja

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sen. Iyiochia Ayu, has vowed not to allow his personal relationship with former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, to influence the party’s decision on its 2023 Presidential ticket.

Ayu, gave the promise while responding to remarks by the former Vice President, who was at the party’s National Secretariat, Abuja, on Thursday, to interact with members of the PDP National Working Committee.

He expressed the party’s gratitude to Atiku for facilitating the acquisition of the PDP National Secretariat during his time in office.

Ayu said, “Let me start by acknowledging that, you and I have been friends for over 30 years. As it was indicated, we were key players in the Social Democratic Party.

“We’ve been working politically together, you are a presidential aspirant today, I want people to know that you are still my friend. I can’t deny you, I never deny my friends including those who are at the other disastrous party.

“I’m saying this that those who say oh, because of my personal relationship with you, as chairman, I will work for you.

“Mr Vice President, I will not work for you as an aspirant, I will work for all the 17 aspirants.

“It is left for you to convince the delegates of our party that you are the best, you have to market yourself, you have to work hard, this NWC, for now, will remain an umpire, we are not going to take sides with any particular aspirant but we love you all.

Atiku, while informing the NWC of his desire to seek the party’s nomination to contest the 2023 presidential election, recalled his long-standing relationship with most, if not all members of the party’s NWC.

Atiku said, “Very many of you in this National Working Committee, have interacted with me politically and otherwise for a very, very long time. I don’t have to tell you what I am. What qualifications I have and what I can do for this party and for this country.

According to him, his desire to lead Nigeria was anchored on his desire to unify Nigerians, secure their lives and property, as well as improve the economy among other things.

“Secondly, I said I was going to deal with security issues there has to be security before anything else. Mr Chairman and members of the NWC, about 7 months ago.

“I was on a visit to Niger State and I decided to pay a courtesy call on the Governor and the Governor told me ‘Sir, we have about 12 local governments which are under the control of bandits, we don’t know how to conduct elections in those local governments and I went to the President and said we need more policemen and the President said ‘how can I give you more policemen when the Inspector General of Police and the Police Service Commission are in the court on who will recruit policemen.’ I cannot be that kind of President.”

He further said, “And that is where we are as at today, we cannot recruit policemen because the two agencies are in court, we have a president who cannot be heads of two agencies under control, his own heads of the department, not even ministers.

“I’m not going to be that kind of President because you and I Mr Chairman have worked in the same cabinet before.

“I’m here to inform you of my decision to run again. I urge you to provide the environment for the best candidate to emerge. Mr Chairman, I dare say I’m the best candidate.

“Under normal circumstances, this is a guy who already has 11 million votes in the kitty and I feel like a party, I should be given the right of first refusal.

“ But we are in a democracy all that I can urge you is that the way you have started you should continue by being very fair, very credible and give every contestant to face the electorate. “

Politics / Terrorism Charge: Nnamdi Kanu Rejects Secret Trial, Heads To Court by Freddywong: 5:40pm On Apr 26, 2022
We’ll lay to rest the 7-count charge against Nnamdi Kanu —Legal team

•Blame Simon Ekpa’s group for forcefully enforcing sit-at-home in S-East —IPOB

By Chioma Gabriel & Chinonso Alozie, ABUJA

Detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has gone to court to challenge the practice direction of the Federal High Court which ordered that his trial be done in secret.

He asked the court to declare that the provisions of Order III of the Federal High Court Practice Directions (On Trial of Terrorism Cases) 2022, were already the subject of Section 36 (4)(a) and (b) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, and consequently, inoperative and outrightly ultra vires.

This came as leader of a splinter group in IPOB, Simon Ekpa, has rejected calls to put an end of the Monday sit-at-home order to protest the continued detention of Kanu.

Kanu , in the originating summons filed by his lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, asked the court to declare it “invalid, null, void and of no effect whatsoever.”

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, and its Chief Registrar were listed as defendants in the suit which processes were obtained by journalists yesterday.

Justice John Tsoho had released a new practice direction for the trial of terrorism cases before the court.

The cases of Nnamdi Kanu, Bureau de Change operators indicted over sponsorship of terrorism, and Boko Haram suspects are currently before the court.

Justice Tsoho said the new practice direction was in the exercise of his constitutional powers as enshrined in Section 254 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

Under the new arrangement, the court said media coverage of proceedings is strictly prohibited.

“Coverage of proceedings under these practice directions is strictly prohibited, save as may be directed by the court. A person who contravenes an order or direction made under these practices shall be deemed to have committed an offence contrary to Section 34(5) of the Terrorism (Prevention) Act 2011 as amended,” the document stated.

The IPOB leader also wants an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants , whether by themselves, servants, agents, privies, and all other officers and agents of the Federal High Court of Nigeria from applying and enforcing the provisions of the Federal High Court Practice Directions (On Trial of Terrorism Cases) 2022.

Others reliefs were “A declaration that the failure of the 1st defendant to first seek and obtain the approval of the Federal Executive Council (or the National Council of Ministers) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria prior to enacting the Federal High Court Practice Directions (on Trials of Terrorism Cases), 2022, as required by Section 44 of the Federal High Court Act renders the Federal High Court Practice Direction (On Trial of Terrorism Cases) 2022, ultra vires, null and void.

“A declaration that Order III Rules 3(b) and (d) of the Federal High Court Practice Directions (On Trials of Terrorism Cases) 2022, which respectively empower a Federal High Court trying terrorism cases “to receive evidence by video link, and to receive written deposition of expert witness” are inconsistent with Items 23 and 68 of the Exclusive Legislative List as well as Paragraph 2(b) of Part III of the 2nd Schedule to the Constitution which confers on the National Assembly the exclusive power to make rules of evidence, both substantive and adjectival and are therefore ultra vires, null and void to the extent of the inconsistency

“A declaration that Order IV Rule 2 of the Federal High Court Practice Direction (on Trial of Terrorism Cases) 2022, which provides that a person who contravenes an order or direction made under these Directions shall be deemed to have committed an offence contrary to Section 34(5) of the Terrorism (Prevention) Act 2011, (as amended) is inoperative because the National Assembly had already covered the field vide Section 34(5) of the Terrorism Prevention Act 2011, as amended.

“A declaration that the rule-making powers of the 1st Defendant under Section 254 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, is limited to the premises of the Federal High Court and do not extend to outside its perimeters, which are under the exclusive responsibility of law enforcement agencies such as the Police, DSS, etc.

“An order of this Honorable court declaring the Federal High Court Practice Directions (On Trial of Terrorism Cases) 2022, unconstitutional, ultra vires, invalid, null, void, and of no effect.”

We’ll lay to rest 7-count charge against Nnamdi Kanu —Legal Team

Also yesterday, the legal team of the Kanu said it would explore compelling legal processes to finally lay to rest the remaining 7-count charge still pending at the Federal High Court in Abuja against the IPOB leader.

The IPOB lead counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, disclosed this to newsmen in Owerri, after the legal team visited Kanu at the Department of State Services, DSS, in Abuja, yesterday.

Ejiofor said it was part of the interaction they had with Kanu, at the DSS detention centre.

He said: “The routine Court-Ordered visit to our indefatigable client – Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu , has just been concluded. We had an incisive review of compelling legal processes we are exploring to ensure that the remaining 7-count charge still pending is permanently laid to rest.

“Onyendu extends his heartfelt gratitude to all UmuChineke for remaining steadfast and undeterred. He is, as usual, profoundly impressed by your demonstration of uncommon discipline, unity, understanding, loyalty, and forthrightness.

“Onyendu observed that this trying phase is on the verge of extinction and the name of ChukwuOkike Abiama will be eternally glorified. Onyendu emphasized vigilance, particularly in times like this, and highly commended you all for your peaceful conduct, even in the face of seemingly unprovoked attacks. He encouraged you all to always be on guard, even in your prayers and supplications to the Almighty ChukwuOkike Abiama.”

Blame Simon Ekpa’s group for forcibly enforcing sit-at-home in S-East —IPOB

Meanwhile, the move by governors of the South East to stem the spate of killings and economic destruction in the zone has not been successful.

Finland- based Simon Ekpa, a former disciple of Nnamdi Kanu and the self-proclaimed leader of a splinter IPOB group, has rejected calls for an end to the sit-at-home order by governors in the South East, the latest being Professor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State.

The new group, led by Simon Ekpa, has opposed the IPOB order cancelling the sit-at-home in southeast states and has continued to instil fear in the minds of residents of the South East, with violent enforcement of its version of the sit-at-home, leading to deaths of scores, burning of vehicles, shops, law enforcement agents and electoral officials.

IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful in a statement alleged: “It is certain Simon Ekpa and his gang called Autopilots are carrying out threats against people’s lives because of non-existent Monday sit-at-home. These people disturbing the peace of our people are not IPOB members. IPOB doesn’t shed blood. We are a peaceful movement.”

He maintained:“We wish to reiterate, once again, that IPOB has cancelled the Monday sit-at-home order, and anybody or group enforcing it is neither from us nor our volunteer group. Any governor in the region who deems it fit to stop the non-existent Monday sit-at-home order in the region is free to do so.

“Anyone caught adding to the pain of our people in the name of enforcing Monday sit-at-home order will be treated like the enemy that he or she is.

“We therefore, warn these agents of darkness using the name of the IPOB to enforce a non-existent sit-at-home to desist.

“Why should such unpatriotic elements be inflicting pain on our people and dragging our image to the mud? The IPOB remains a non-violent movement and our peaceful approach to Biafra restoration has not changed.

It will be recalled that the IPOB leadership called for the Monday sit-at-home and the same people cancelled it.

“Nobody was given the mandate to enforce the same suspended sit-at-home using the name of the IPOB. The only day the sit-at-home will be observed in Biafra land is when our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is appearing in court; and we shall, as usual, make it public for all to know.”

Recall that Governor Soludo on March 25, warned civil servants not to comply with the sit-at-home order on Mondays, while appealing to the Autopilots to lay down their arms and embrace rehabilitation. He declared amnesty for all armed groups in the zone, while pledging to lead other governors in the zone to seek an amicable resolution of the crisis.

Ekpa’s group, however, rejected all the declarations and pledges.

A statement by the Head of Service of Anambra State, Theodora Igwegbe read: “Following the need to reposition the service for better performance and productivity, Prof Charles Soludo has directed that all public servants should henceforth report to their places of work on Mondays as they do on other workdays.”

But Ekpa, on the same March 25, twitted through his handle, @simon_ekpa, “Soludo’s directive to civil servant (sic) in Anambra is dead on arrival. He should ask other governors. Obiano went to the street as a town crier (sic) to no avail. We are warning Soludo not to use his overzealousness to endanger the lives (sic) of our women and children as the Department of State Services (DSS) are killing them.”

Politics / 2023: Orji Kalu Says He will Withdraw If Parties Don't Zone Ticket To SE by Freddywong: 5:07pm On Apr 26, 2022
The Chief Whip of the Senate, Sen. Orji Kalu says he may withdraw from contesting to be the president of Nigeria if major political parties don’t zone their tickets to the South-East.

Kalu in a statement he issued on Tuesday in Abuja, however, said that it was his desire and intention to run for the Presidency.

2023: President of Igbo extraction will lay to rest IPOB agitation – Igbo Monarch insists
According to him, I am committed to this pursuit, but I can’t make an official declaration to this regard without the full support of other regions.

“Everywhere in the world, politics is situational and that of Nigeria is exceptionally situational.

“The situation in Nigeria is that without the support of other regions, it would amount to a shadow chase for a South Easterner to be President.

“This is the reason I have been in the frontline of the call that the two major political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should zone their presidential tickets to the South- East as they did for the South-West in 1999.

“In the absence of this zoning, I shall return to the senate and stay away from the presidential contest,’’ Kalu said.

He said that the North was more advantageous to win elections in the democratic setting.

“I am even shocked with the number of aspirants coming from the South-West and the South-South.

“It is embarrassing that these aspirants (APC and PDP) have no single respect and concern for the South-East.

“I had thought they would think about the South-East; I thought they would support us. The amount of money being spent by these aspirants is alarming and they have forgotten that money alone cannot buy the Presidency.

“It has become a joke to an ordinary Nigerian who hears Southern commentators and aspirants rooting for a Southern President on the premise of fairness, equity and justice,’’ Kalu said.

He further said that if there was anything like “fairness”, “equity” and “justice”, it should be the entire South pushing for a president of South-East extraction.

According to him, anything less than that is “hypocritical”, “unjustifiable”and “inordinate.”

“Some ‘persons’ are even claiming God’s anointed choice in 2023. Unfortunately, it is not all prayers that God answers; at least not inordinate ones.

“What moral justification does a Southerner who refused to be fair to his brothers have against a Northerner running for president?

“It will be very insensitive, unreasonable and disrespectful for any Southern man to criticise a presidential aspirant from the North on the ground that the North has done eight years and power should return to the South,’’ he said.

Kalu also said that while the South-West and the South-South successfully completed their tenures as ‘President and Vice President’, they should have the courage to support the South-East.

“If the next president after President Muhammadu Buhari does not come from the South-East , there would be nothing unfair and unjust if he/she comes from Daura,’’ Kalu said.

He said that the two regions that are yet to produce a President are South-East and North-East.

“If this means anything to Nigerians, the APC and PDP should be fair enough to prioritise these regions. If power should come to the South and not the South- East or North and not the North-East, the essence for which the six geopolitical zones were created is long dead.

“This country belongs to all of us and the unity of the country should be paramount.

“If not for selfishness and greed, how can you say that where a president comes from does not matter simply because you don’t want to support a president of Nigeria from the South- East, but turn around to clamour for a power shift to the South?

“How do we explain this to the younger generation? Let the wise and courageous stay firm on their convictions and not swing on the two sides of the Atlantic,’’ Kalu said.

“To Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Chief Edwin Clark , Deji Adeyanju and a host of others who have stood firm in their support for their brothers in the South-East, posterity will be kind to you,’’ Kalu said.

The Hypocritical Christian
I am the hypocritical Christian.
I say I follow Christ,
But I'm still consumed by my demons.
I go to church on Sunday,
But I refuse to invite someone back.
I want to serve on mission,
But I'm too afraid to act.
They think I read The Bible,
But I just fall asleep in it.
They think I'm positivity and smiles,
But underneath I'm death and addictions.
They think I'm clean and pure,
But I'm broken and mistaken.
I say I'm not worthy of His love,
But Jesus will never let me be forsaken.
I pray long prayers,
But inside they're empty repetition.
It might look as if my faith is strong,
But my core is too easily shaken.
I say the things I'm supposed to say,
But don't follow His actions or obey.
I speak the truth the church wants to hear,
But deep inside on matters I don't know what to believe.
I walk in shame as if I'm not good enough
To be loved by God and saved through Christ,
But there is nothing I could ever do to earn His peace;
It's a free gift.
I accept;
Now forgiven, changed, and released.
Thank You God,
Thank You Jesus,
Thank You Holy Spirit!
In Jesus' Holy Name,
We pray,
Amen!

HOW TO KNOW A NEW STUDENT IN CRUTECH
Common characters of fresher’s

PICTURE FREAKS

They snap picture everywhere, every angle, and every corner. Lecture hall, admin office, school field, hostel, toilet, bathroom, canteen, behind prefab 1 etc. they snap before lecture and after every lecture, sometime they don’t copy notes they snap the board instead, mma or papa, na school u come, no be photo shoot.

SHOWOFFS
These ones change automatically, their intonation, walking steps, behavior, class of friends, lifestyle, they brag about where there live, what cars there drive, the kind of guys or girls the date, who their parents are etc. they don’t talk to any kind of person, there make friends with people within their supposed class,. I witness an incidence where a departmental president asked the names of two girls, not knowing who he was, their reply was “it’s not important” He told them “don’t worry very soon you would beg me to write your name on a paper, and I will tell you, it’s not important too” and so it was.
CHURCH FREAKS

these ones ehn, every church activity they would attend, they lead the class in prayer before and after each lecture, funny enough there are the ones that would share tracks to their fellow fresher, and old students.. They sometimes turn out to be good students.
GROUPIES

Mostly found among girls, they form groups within themselves and each group have their unique name, like “the three musketeers” “three wise girls” “favour sisters” etc. you often find them wearing the same kind of clothes, making the same kind of hair, going to class the same time, doing almost everything together. But before the end of the semester, serious quarrel will ensue, most times because of a boy, and these element “groupies”, would become an atom…lol [url]read more.......[/http://titenetwork..com.ng/2016/11/15-ways-to-know-new-student-in-crutech.html]
