thegoodjoehunt: I think the Chelsea move was very wrong of Mikel. The competition was too much and he never had the chance to develop himself as a creative midfielder. If Mikel had gone to Ajax or Dortmund (just as Boateng went there on loan) Mikel would have had a chance to develop himself as a creative midfielder.

Mikel was just too skillful and brilliant, going to Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Valencia etc would have been best for him. A place he would have walked in and picked up the midfield role without much competition.

Too bad, we may never see the promise Mikel showed.

CFCfan: True. Mikel went from playing 3 minute cameo roles to being a regular in a short period of time. I still think he was brave in choosing Chelsea, which at the time had established midfielders in the starting 11.

Please you can't say Wilshere is average till he wins what Mikel has won. Mikel was lucky to be coached by Di Matteo who knew the best way to utilize Mikel (some say Mikel plays like Albertini and it was easy for Di Matteo to get Mikel to play the Albertini role). If not Di Matteo, many would have still been calling Mikel mediocre. Jack Wilshere is already wearing the #10 shirt of Arsenal FC. At his age, Mikel was missing on the team list of Chelsea.

thegoodjoehunt: Wilshere isn't an average player. How many midfielders in his age group is dominating football. He was just slowed down by injuries. He was well above his peers when he broke through. If he can maintain his fitness first, with some games under his belt, he will be back to his form.
