There are serious concerns about how Alakija, with no prior experience in the oil industry, was awarded such a massive stake in one of Nigeria’s most valuable oil assets. His assassination remains unsolved, leaving many to wonder if his death was a consequence of his efforts to uncover and challenge corruption at the highest levels.

The fact that Bola Ige, a prominent Nigerian lawyer, was involved in a legal battle against Alakija and was murdered shortly after underscores the deep-seated corruption that plagued Nigeria’s oil industry during that period.
