ABSTRACT

The question on whether aspirin has any important role to play or not has generated a lot of controversies over years especially among the individuals that fakes the drug, and the pharmaceutical industries that produces it. This question that seemed to be half way answered gave rise to carrying out of this study.

This work is in such a way as to help the readers understand the role of aspirin in human health and the chemical component of the drug in reaction. It also deals extensively with the definition and background of study, the statement of some problems, the aims and objectives, the limitation and hypothesis.

And for the work to be neatly done, there are some books we searched so as to gather more information as is stated in the literature review. It also deals with the uses or importance of the drug, the side eff3ects, and the solution to the problems and the definition of some terms. The result of the work is also analysed and the conclusion was drawn. It is also finally recommended to everybody that has the need to take it and some references were also done.

CHAPTER ONE

1.1 INTRODUCTION, DEFINITION AND BACKGROUND OF STUDY

Aspirin can be defined as an analgesic drug made from a willow barks as a fever fighter. The leaves and the bark of the willow tree contain a substance known as Salicin. Salicin is a naturally occurring compound similar to acetyl salicylic acid. Aspirin, (Edward Stone, 1996).

In the laboratory, one can synthesis aspirin a derivative of salicylic acid. It is antipyretic because it lowers the body temperature of a person that has fever. The compound has little effect if the body temperature is normal. Salicylates are mild analgesic that relieves pains associated with headaches, (Neuralgia – a pain that is felt along a nerve usually in the head or face) and rheumatism (a disease that makes the muscles and joints painful, stiff and swallowed, (Oxford Dictionary, 6th edition).

Aspirin for more than hundred years now has been used as a pain reliever for many diseases. Americans consumed over 20 billion tablets a year. The most commonly salicylic used in medicine today is aspirin. In this research work, aspirin was prepared from Salicylic acid and acetic anhydride.

ABSTRACT

This project deals with the design and implementation of a radio controlled car lock with 5-minutes ignition deactivation facility capable of locking a vehicle using a remote control from a distance. The system is designed in two functional units; the transmitter which is an RF handheld remote control, and the receiver units. The receiver unit is realized in several modules. A tuned radio frequency receiver (TRF) output is used to trigger a bi-stable multi-vibrator configured using CD 4013 whose output is used to trigger the car lock switch. The four doors of a conventional car are represented using four push and hold switches wired to trigger a 5-min delay circuit realized with Ne555 timer in mono-stable mode. The system works in such a way that if your car is snatched at gunpoint, you simply press the remote and the car locks by switching off a green LED before the armed robber zoom off. And once any of the doors is opened and closed, the vehicle automatically comes to a stop after five minutes. And the ignition lamp goes off too. The system also contains a reset switch installed at a recessed location in the car for resetting the locking system when the car is found. Due mainly because of the area of application, the system is chordless.

CHAPTER ONE

RADIO CONTROLLED CAR LOCK SYSTEM OVERVIEW

1.1. Background of the Study

The present innovations relate generally to wireless transmitters and more particularly to remotely controlled operations which employ RF transmitters and Receivers. With the invention of GPRS, GPS, 3G, 4G, GSM and the internet people in different parts of the world can communicate and control some operation effectively. Putting into consideration the above milestone, there is vital need to incapacitate car thieves using a wireless technology. Because of this, a thorough research was embarked on Remote control car lock with 5-minutes ignition deactivation facilities. This system prevents car snatchers from disappearing with the vehicle. It frustrate them five minutes after closing of any of the car doors. It arrests the issue of car snatching and deactivation in real time, without any delay. It is made up of a portable handheld RF remote control which should always be in the driver’s pocket. And the receiver is installed inside the vehicle.

1.2. Problem Statement

Owing to the high rate of unemployment in the country social vices have been on the increase. This menace has called for individual security of lives and properties. All over the world, car lifting is a threatening social vice people have lost their vehicles, worth of billions of dollar, to car thieves and sometimes their lives. These is utmost need to come-up with a means of tracking car thieves by demobilizing the vehicle irrespective of their location using wireless technology regarding the harms that have been caused by car lifting/ thieves, I deemed it necessary to embark on the project design and implementation of a radio controlled car lock with 5 minutes ignition deactivation facilities. This system should be able to lock the vehicles ignition system and deactivated it/brings the car to a stop, 5-minustes after closing and of the doors. This device should use a radio frequency (Rf) technology.

1.3. Aims and Objectives of the Study

i. The aim of this project is to design and implement a radio controlled car lock with 5-min ignition deactivation facility capable of discontinuing the movement/motion of a vehicle snatched at Gunpoint using remote control.

ii. The objectives of this study are; to develop a prototype system that can be used to lock and deactivate an automobile snatched at gunpoint using RF remote control.

iii. To develop an automotive device which can be powered using car battery.

iv. To develop a system which can use Rf remote to lock a vehicle.

v. To develop a module which can switch the ignition of vehicle using the car doors

ABSTRACT

This project is focused on experimental analysis of impact of water jet on vanes. This work intends to predict the output of a pelton wheel, and to determine its optimum rotational speed. Hence this work explains how the deflection of the jet generates a force on the buckets, and how the force is related to the rate of momentum flow in the jet. In this experiment, we measure the force generated by a jet of water striking a flat plate or a hemispherical cup, and compare the results with the computed momentum flow rate in the jet. The experiment is shown in the arrangement, in which water supplied from the Hydraulic Bench is fed to a vertical pipe terminating in a tapered nozzle. This produces a jet of water which impinges on a vane, in the form of a flat plate or a hemispherical cup

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT

Over the years, engineers have found many ways to utilize the impact force of fluids. For example, the Pelton wheel has been used to make flour. Further, the impulse turbine. Firemen make use of the kinetic energy stored in a jet to extinguish fires in high-rise buildings. Many other applications of fluid jets can be cited which reveals their technological importance. This experiment is designed to study the force that can be impacted by a jet of fluid on a surface diverting the flow (Khurmi, 2010).

The history of the equipment “impact of jet apparatus” is traced back to the 19th century. The apparatus is used to demonstrate the way a certain type of water turbine, the pelton wheel can extract water from a fast jet of water, which is similar to the way in which a space craft increases or decreases its kinetic energy by swinging around a moving plant. Nevertheless, water turbines are used to generate power like in pelton wheel produced by an American engineer Lester A Pelton. Engineer Lester Pelton was born in the year 1892 in Vermilion Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie. The invention came about when water was an under used resource and before electricity was economically practical as a motive power. The first turbine built by pelton was in Campton Ville. In Campton Ville, by the time search for gold progressed, which required power to drive stamp mills that crush the ore and pump air into mine turnnels and later to provide electricity and compressed air. Some mines used steam engines but these required a large and constant supply of fire wood. Therefore, instead of the slow water wheel traditionally used by flour mills which needed only a moderate height but used a large quantity of water, even mine owners installed turbine wheels with cups around their circumference with a fast jet of water coming from a reservoir high up (Moth, 2009).

Pelton invention started from an accidental observation when he was watching a spinning water turbine when the key holding its wheel onto its shaft slipped causing it to be misaligned. Instead of the jet hitting the wheel at the middle, the slip made it hit near the edge thus causing the wheel to spin faster. It is known that the Pelton wheel is suitable for conditions which require a 100m head of water and a flow rate which could be used to develop about 900kW of power. Over 40 years ago, the concept of performing simple experiments in hydraulics on hydraulic bench was first introduced in the University of Notingham, since then, hydraulic bench has been in use to conduct experiments with the impact of jet apparatus.

1. To minimize cost: With maintenance, there is reduction in cost, i.e. instead of spending more money in the purchasing of new equipment, the money can be used in the maintenance of the faulty equipment.
