The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has faulted the Federal Government on the minimum cut-off mark for 2017/2018 admission into the nation’s tertiary institutions.

The academic union was reacting to the JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede’s announcement pegging the minimum scores for admission into University and Polytechnic at 120 and 100 respectively.

He had said: “30 per cent of those in higher institutions do not take JAMB or have less than the cut-off marks. The admission process is now automated with direct involvement of the registrar of JAMB for final approval. We have agreed to regularize admissions that were done under the table this year. From next year we will not accept anything like that.”

But, speaking with newsmen in Ibadan, Chairman ASUU, University of Ibadan, Dr Deji Omole described the new cut-off marks as a sad policy decision for the future of Nigeria. According to Omole, rather than sanctioning the identified universities who admitted over 17,000 students illegally, the JAMB registrar simply regularised illegality and lowered cut-off marks to favour the interests of the friends of government who own private universities and are hell bent on destroying public education. While calling for the scrapping of JAMB, Omole said students should apply directly to universities of their choice for admission. The ASUU boss said;

A pastor has been reportedly arrested by the police in Calabar, Cross River State capital for allegedly killing a baby that was kidnapped for ritual purpose.

According to the unconfirmed reports shared on Facebook, the pastor whose church is located along Okon Edak off Atamunu street was reportedly taken away by the police, and his church destroyed by angry mob, after a baby was allegedly kidnapped on Thursday morning and sold to the pastor, who thereafter murdered the baby boy for rituals. “The Police arrested and interrogated the guy this morning over the missing baby boy and the guy led them to the pastor he sold him to. The pastor got arrested in connection with the allegations and was taken to his church where fresh blood was found spilt around, along with things of different sort; including photographs of men and women, women’s lingerie and other under-wears as well as other devilish things”.

21 Years Old Student Dies On Her Birthday After Drinking Half A Bottle Of Jack Daniels

A 21 years old lady, named Narinthorn Alexander, reportedly died on her 21st birthday after drinking half a bottle of Jack Daniels and choking on her own vomit in a Thai restaurant.
According to report, the fashion student was found unconscious in the toilet of Thai Tho in Soho, central London, after telling friends she was not feeling well.
She later suffered a cardiac arrest and was in a coma for six days before her life machine support was turned off.
An inquest into her death found that none of the staff at the Thai restaurant could perform first aid and the student did not receive any until police officers arrived on the scene, reports the Evening Standard. However, coroner Mary Hassell ruled that the amount of Jack Daniels she had consumed played a significant role in her death, saying; ‘What underlies all of this is alcohol, I’m afraid.’

Alexander, who turned 21 on the 9th of March 9 celebrated her birthday with her boyfriend and six other friends later that week was born in Thailand, and studying at the University of West London. Some of her friends disclosed that they saw nothing wrong with the fashion student and that she was enjoying herself.

‘When the food did arrive she did have a tiny bit to eat. She was starting to feel a bit tipsy.
‘It got to the point where she came over and whispered in my ear and said, ”I’m going to the toilet, I will be right back”. A close friend said.
The friend revealing the moment Alexander was found in the toilet, said; ‘She was not responding at all, I had never seen her like that. Her friend was holding her head up… I was shaking her.’

After starting chest compressions paramedics inspected Miss Alexander’s airwaves and found that ‘quite large chunks of chicken’ were causing a ‘significant airways obstruction.’ Narinthorn Alexander’s cause of death was given as a hypoxic brain injury and cardiac arrest, asphyxiation vomitus and alcohol toxicity

A 37-years old man identified as Abdullahi Abbas, a fake blind beggar was reportedly arrested yesterday in Ikorodu, Lagos State after an inquisitive resident of the area, Adeoye Baliks, engaged him in a conversation that made her raise an alarm.

During interrogation, it was gathered from Abdullahi, who is always led by a 12-year-old boy (name withheld) when begging for alms every day at the First Gate and Odogunyan area of Ikorodu, that he makes between N5,500 and N8,000 daily.
