Yes she was desperate, but she is also willing to learn to love what is available. Desperation produced results under this circumstance. Sometimes, desperation is good.

However, she delayed her joy and her choice may have been different if she didn't make the assumption that she got it all figured out (through religion). The exact subtle message in your quoted post is similar to her attitude as a young religious lady if one looks at it from a different POV.

But the clause that ruin the story is the marriage proposal bit...what message is she tying to potray to people who falls into her category? That they could miss out on men and marry out of desperation? Just to bear Mrs somebody?... If the op had said she is in love with the guy she married it will make sense...op made it look like being unmarried is a curse, sin, taboo or crime. That's why she married out of desperation... Hmmm! Pls next time if u don't agree with peoples comment don't throw insult at them..I don't insult people because everybody is entitled to their opinion.
