That's a pretty tough industry to make it in from what I know of it. Certainly fun to be involved with movies and TV, but it's not as easy as taking a few classes and getting work right away. Like anything else, it takes a lot of time and hard work.

Not sure about the timing of moving to NYC right now, but it's been a fun place to visit in my experience. I don't think I could handle the pace of life there long term, but it does have its perks. An experience. Go for a walk or to some other free or low cost activity. If she's your girlfriend, she probably knows you're not rich and likes just spending time with you. Doing something nice for her that's fun and memorable doesn't have to cost a fortune.
