franko!:Best hotel in Calabar in my opinion is the Metro, has been top flight for over 40 years, I would not even contemplating staying anywhere else see link below http://www.metropolitancalabar.com/accommodation.html As for a cheaper one I cannot say but I would not trust the security of the smaller guest houses, saying that Calabar is a relatively and I say 'relatively' safe place. |
morpheus24:My friend ! I have lived in the UK for over 30 years and I happen to know for a fact that most if not all white people are racist, that does not mean they are bad it just means they are racist, just some are more racist than others, I always say in jest that some are 99% racist and some are 1% racist some of them sincerely believe that they are not until it is gently pointed out to them, the decent ones will check themselves and hopefully correct their prejudices, the half decent ones will hope they do not expose their darkest thoughts again, and the 'BAD' ones just don't give a damn what we think about their racist views. I can tell you also that people are not just people across the board, Your average black person is not racist he might react violently towards racism if he encounters it but he will not perpetrate it against his fellow man this is one of the core differences between the races, |
igbogolo:You know what Igbogolo I fully agree with you about letting our people know that white people are all the same wretched two faced creeps, I fully accept that they are all racist, just some are more racist than others, BUT you know what ! We all know now so the moderators should ban his arse PRONTO, or at the very least his posts should be deleted I have to say I am very didisappointed that we tolerate what will never be tolerated on a white run forum, this is just one of the reasons why the white man continues to undermine us at every opportunity because MOST of us do not have the balls to slap him down, |
By his name you can tell he is white, he should be banned period ! try making any attempt to stand up for yourself against racism on a white controlled site and you will be banned immediately, so to those who think he has freedom of speech you should seriously think again. Moderators BAN him and and block his IP address !!!!!! |
Siena told me about this thread but I could not find it until now, this is the thread I started https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=382953.msg5335408#msg5335408 Firstly I would like to point out that in travelling along the coast of West Africa any car in relatively good condition should be able to make the trip, afterall cars drive on the same roads in the individual countries we intend to cross and more to the point most of these countries have better roads than those found in Naija and cars have been known to do many hundreds of thousands of Kilometers across Naija having being maintained by our home grown mechanics so what is the big deal ? I know there are many other issues it is just that the issue of ordinary cars not being able to make the journey keeps cropping up. |
As I said before one needs to look at the map of West Africa pre colonialism to find the true origins of the Haitian people ![]() |
Whilst I agree that charity begins at home, and we need a hell of a lot of that back in Naija, I would also argue that Haitians need to be back home with all of us rumbling in the jungle, for better or for worse, afterall even though they had French as a language forced upon them by the French their traditions and cultural beliefs are more in tune with Nigeria than any other African Nation, I have always advocated an open door policy in Africa for our long lost brothers in the diaspora to return home. I have to say that watching all the reports of Haiti being the first black republic and the poorest country in the Western hemisphere I saw a parallel with our own sorry land, that I would argue is the poorest country in the southern hemisphere, the similarities are endless from their blind adherence to Christianity (the religion of our oppressors) to the practice of more unsavoury spiritual beliefs. I can also tell you from experience that these guys are very closely related to us physically and many a time I have confused Haitians with Naijas all over the world. It could also be argued that by opening our borders to Haitians and our other brothers around the world we would be doing ourselves a big favour and ultimately redressing the man power drain that was visited upon us by the west during slavery through to colonialisation, so there are all sorts of beneficial spinoffs with what Senegal is proposing. On a practical level Haitians do speak French as their first language and so resettling them in Africa would be best done by the former French colonies. And of course on another level it could also be argued that a lot of undesirables might come along for the ride just to compound the recipient country's problems. Personally my rather limited encouters with Haitians in Miami was a big let down as I found them very rude and obnoxious on two separate occasions, OK they were cab drivers and probably illegal immigrants but they were rude bordering on aggressive despite my attempts to identify with them as Africans. What am I trying to say ?? They are very closely related to us in more ways than even they would ever dream of and it is our duty to go to their aid as they are indeed our own people, charity begins at home and it is about time they came home, if for nothing else but the promise of relative safety from the natural disasters that they are exposed to where they were forcibly put. |
LMAO true true, It reminds me of a conversation I had with a Yoruba friend of mine a few years ago as she was about to get married, I asked he if her husband to be was from Naija and she answered no ! he is Igbo, |
Well, calling it a dream is a bit of an overstatement but the idea has always been a very attractive one, I have made certain enquiries with drivers involved with the real Paris - Dakar rally who are based in Gambia and who know the rally route through the Mauritania and Western Sahara, however the question of security in Mauritania remains and the more Western sponsorship / involvement the more the risk, I think it should be a solely African Affair to the exclusion of European sponsorship and as such I would not want to have to convince any oyinbo organisation to sponsor any aspect of the run. As I have said before I have driven across more than half of Morocco before in total safety and sincerely believe Al - Qaida have no beans with us black Africans as long as we keep it that way. Maybe we should be looking to Africa and its home grown companies for sponsorship starting with all the countries concerned and their security forces etc. I have brought this idea to the forum now as it is good to talk, the Internet has given us a forum to find likeminded people, As a people we are more advanced in our spirit of adventure in 2010, and most of us now have the means to realise what some would call trivial pursuits, moreover two or more heads are better than one, |
I have been up for this for the past 30 years and so it will happen, the question is how many of us are up for it, I see is as really living life which is sadly what we are not usually about, all those who are interested please yahoo message me your phone number so I can make contact ASAP. Apart from the fact that we would be getting whatever cars we decide to take with us to Naija without having to deal with the usual port wahala, lol |
contd, Food and water - should be easy enough Weather issues - apart from sandstorms I don't think there should be anything to worry about Security - Well that is the biggest issue, and I think this can be solved with very judicious recruitment of National police for escort which should also help solve some navigational issues. And of course safety in numbers I think another issue will be meeting the legal requirements for driving through each of the countries, like insurance import / transit permits etc Driving through some of the more civilised West African countries would take longer but will probably be more fun and safer too, especially having driven in the Gambia and Morocco which was very safe. Western Sahara and Mauritania is a bit of an unknown quantity, Maybe there are other Nairalanders that would be able to shed more light on the issues, |
Hi Siena I respond to your points in blue Vehicles - The way I see it is a Ford Capri can do it almost any modern day car can, lol Competent engineers - I would expect that amongst us there would be a knowledge of basic mechanics anything more serious and we would have to tow the car to the nearest mechanic, I am thinking that we would have a couple of towing dollies in the convoy Competent geographers / navigators - With good maps and navigation systems we should be OK, I was reading about the Paris Dakar rally and navigation issues across the trans African highway and it is relatively straightforward. Visa's - goes without saying only a few countries to cross depending on what route we take Vaccinations - again as required, saying that I have never taken any vaccinations to travel abroad even when visiting Naija , lol |
Has anybody considered driving from the UK / Europe to Nigeria, I am thinking it would be quite an interesting adventure especially if we were in a convoy of likeminded people, the larger the better and of course the safer, I remember about 30 years ago hearing about a student returning home to Nigeria by road in a Ford Capri 3.0S, and I have thought about doing the same since. |
TO THE MAIN PROPAGANDISTS OF THIS DEBATE !!!! I think you should all agree to disgree, the arguments are getting boring now and it is soul destroying to see people with above average intelligence demeaning themselves by hurling abuse at each other, comments questioning ones state of mind or their ability to understand English are not helpful and can only further inflame an already volatile debate. We should strongly agree to agree ,, lol, as we are all pretty much seeking the same outcome. The President is ill, he may or may not survive the end of the year and somebody needs to take over the reigns as the figurehead to lead our troubled country. Again to the main propagandists of this debate can we now put our clearly alert and analytical minds to better use and forge intellectual unions with hearty positive debate on how to make our nation great , |
Girls in Calabar are no cheaper than girls anywhere else in Nigeria or for that matter in many other parts of the developing world. PERIOD And when it comes to youth empowerment look at what it did to Eket, somehow I think the youth need to know their place and let the older statesmen do their jobs. It would appear that Donald Dukes strategy is indeed a plausible one if not without its niggly flaws, in an attempt to make Cross River State the capital of tourism in West Africa, he has enhanced the already sound infrastructure and built upon its strengths, this can only serve ultimately to bring money to the state with the ultimate bettermnent of its people, afterall there are economies all over the world that rely soley on Tourism, and their citizens benefit from it at every level. Fynewaka I would like to ask just one question of you ! what do you foresee as the contents of your proposed bill that would bring food to the table of the average Calabarian ? |
Calabar has always been one of the cleanest and more civilised Nigerian cities, Nigerians in the know have been going there to party for the weekend for over 20 years, those photos are nothing new except for Tinapa and of course the new cable car at Obudu, the streets have always looked like that and where you see the road signs pointing to the stadium and FGGC that whole area is in effect the central part of Calabar town. And by the way is Nigeria not full of witches ? dem full ground everywhere we just have to ignore their rants because they can only hurt the believers, |
And what the hell is that supposed to mean ?? |
Which kin Doctor be dat She has given us all the very worst case scenarios, sounds like a very confused doctor to me, she is assuming of course that before he got to Saudi Arabia he had been treated by monkeys; I think we should take her long winded medical opinion with a pinch of salt, she appears too heavy handed, whereas his treatment so far might have been appropriate, a true professional would not cast aspersions on her colleagues without being in possesion of all the facts in the case, I shall go further in saying that she is just showboating and sounds like an empty vessel attempting to baffle us with science, unfortunately she too dey underestimate Naija's, she no sabi say we too like book, say out of 200 people wey go read the article at least 5% of us will be either Medical Doctors or have one in the immediate family, so who can't log on to a medical journal anyway, In any event it appears The President is gravely ill, so ill that he would have been aware of his condition well before he decided to contest for the presidency, this strikes me as a dishonest strategy as he knew fully well that he would not be able to met his obligations to a country in crisis, the even more jaded would suggest that he probably thought that as President he might become invincible like so many of his predecessors, maybe he though that with the full might of our money behind him a miracle might happen, and a miracle might still happen if I am wrong with the following statement , Some have said he has blood on his hands as many appear to have suffered in his home state as a result of his reticence, and what goes around will continue to go around, Only time will tell, in tghe meantime who are the real losers in all this fiasco ? Yup you guessed right, The long suffering Nigerian people, |
Akanexpress, my replies in blue below: Sometimes we have a good reasons to change manufacturers components in our vehicles. It may be the case that we still have a used car with solid chassis but we require an easy to maintain or reliable engine or at other times we may have Vehicles that parts are not readily available in the market for easy replacement/maintenance. We know that our local technicians can fix say Nissan engine in a Toyota or Volvo. At times, cosmetic surgery are done to fix say Audi head/back lights to Opel or Mazda, and vice versa. Pls Nigerians apart from the above what else can be changed in a vehicle apart from the engine? Most parts are interchangeable one way or the other except for glass screens / windows. Can the following parts be locally modified to adapt from one make of a vehicle to work reliably in another? (say: Toyota to Renault) :- 1. Shock Absorbers - This depends on the suspension layout and the ability of the mechanic sometimes it is not worth the hassle as many cars belong to manufacturing groups and most of their parts are interchangeblae for example VAG ( Volkswagen / Audi Group ) where most of the floorpans steering racks suspension assemblies are all interchangeable. Another example is Renault and Nissan who share technology as part of the same group, then there is Ford and Mazda and so on interestingly you find these unions with disparate manufacturers such as the latter two, another good example would be in the latest Chrysler 300C for example which was based on the floorpan of the E class circa 1995 - 2003. So one should look for such bedpartners first, 2. Fuel Injector - If this is a Bosch item they are widely interchangeable - again this will depend on the loom and the threads on the inlet manifold 3. Wiring to Dashboard - Speedometer/Odometer (That is can a BMW 520 with Totota Cressida engine be wired to read the Speedometer, Odometer, etc) - Possibly , worst case you can use the Toyota clocks in the BM dash Pls contribute yr idea, experiences, recommendations and limitations |
Some of the comments above sadden me, we are all Nigerians in as much as before colonialism Nigeria did not exist, we should be talking as a collective, and whilst I do not agree with the way the colonial powers put us together so we could be at each others throats for eternity, we need to realise this and prove to the world that we are above petty ignorant tribalism, that we will not be handicapped by the legacy left by the British & European pigs who divided and ruled us. As I said before we all became Nigerians at the same time, let us live with it and thrive of our union to the benefit of all our brothers, |
Visla Sorry O ! but have you seen short arse Halle Berry's legs before, she has a couple of the most ugliest shaped pins I have ever seen, so apart from being short and too skinny she come get yeye leg on top. As for Omot I no too like am either although e be like say she get solid big kinda shapely figure so if I really had to choose between the two for one night it would be OmoT all the way, sey you know, besides na portable I go chop ?, ![]() Hbabe I am sure you are totally Kool and you are right a taller woman does stand out more. |
I find it amazing that we cannot just learn to behave ourselves, we are the laughing stock of the world both at home and abroad. For the record I have friends from all over Nigeria some with one British parent even, and they are all kool, carefully selected friends I can trust fully, much more than I would trust my cousins, uncles & aunties. I have encountered tribalism when attempting to rent apartments in Lagos and guess what, I just get my friend of whatever tribe the pratt comes from to do the deed for me instead, simple, lolololol it just goes to show their tribalism cannot touch me or mine in any way shape or form, however I am sorry for the victims of tribalism and will not condone in any way shape or form anybody from my own tribe denigrating anybody from any other. The white man carved up West Africa, putting disparate tribes together so he could rule effectively, and even after independence we are still shackled by colonialism, and we have the audacity to go on about slave mentality amongst our brothers in the diaspora, we are no better, The white man is still rolling about laughing himself silly at our expense and all we do is fuel his entertainment, To all those tribalists out there learn to deal with your own demons and you will feel a lot better about yourself, |
My own be say, as I be Naija Jew, I dey look for value for money, so she get to dey at least 5'8 and over, and weigh at least 12 stone (75kgs) (me I be 5'11") Mek e be say she go get breeze for nyash, besides who wan begin dey look for woman inside bed for night, we wan de one wey be say when we just move hand small she go full bed, sey you know.
