They only need your card details to move your money. Perhaps the BVN enables them create a new account in your name and process more loan if you have a good credit record. If they have your ID that just might recover your SIM card.

few days ago i was contacted by someone i know, asking if i have a mastercard, without thinking i said yes and they've asked for my card details, bvn, acct no, dob and phone number. does anyone understand this process and do any of you know what they plan to do with this information?

Not when it costs less than 7k to fix, for Ikeja it wouldn't cost more than 4. This phone hasn't even be used roughly, it looks brand new. Maybe your definition of scrap and mine are different, probably because foreign phones like this have a lot more value abroad. Obviously 16k is too expensive when you guys use cheap phones like itel, infinix, etc. smh.
