PoliticsRe: Why Aren't There More Women In Leadership Roles ? - EDUREGARD by Fynestboi(op): 5:09pm On Jul 12, 2016
Slimberry1:
The problem stems from the Paternal System which dominates at least 95% of the Afro-Asian region, the mentality of 'Women Are Seen Not Heard' has killed and its still very much killing a lot of potential female leaders, who can do it far much better than our male counterparts, it starts from homes where the female aren't given a voice in decision making, nor are they believed to be capable of rational thinking. For instance in the pre-colonial system of administration in Yoruba land women are given just a position to hold in 'Iyaloja/Iyalode' while other positions are ocuupied by men.. . Going down to the Igbo who practiced decentralised system of government women don't have a say in administrative issues,. .. even to the Hausa/Fulani/Kanuri empires women were not given a post to hold, except for some of these empires that gave the role of looking after the welfare of the palace to women, considering the great Dynasties of Hun, Shintoku n the likes in the Asian world, the Afro-Asian system has done more than enough in relegating women to the position of a Doormat.
Hmmmmmm

PoliticsWhy Aren't There More Women In Leadership Roles ? - EDUREGARD by Fynestboi(op):
Taking a quick look into the ongoing 2016 US Presidential election, the female democratic candidate Hillary Clinton could be cited as she faces strong opposition while aiming to achieve a position no other woman has ever achieved in the US – the position of the United States President. A bigger part of Hillary’s opposition arrives from the fact that she is a woman. This is to say that not having more women in leadership roles is a global issue. I’ll be discussing succinctly a few of the reasons why this has come to be the trend in the human society in subsequent paragraphs.

1. LOW SELF ESTEEM
While some women have managed to bridge the gap between the female gender and leadership positions, a larger number have remained on their side of the bridge due to low self-esteem. Many women do not believe in themselves and do not think themselves worthy of leadership roles.

2. TRADITION
Tradition has played a huge role in setting the female gender apart from leadership roles. This is a common trend in Africa especially, where tradition is still much revered. Women are often prohibited from running for certain positions or taking certain actions. This constitutes a lot of discouragement to women that ever have the notion to aspire for a leadership position.

3. RELIGION
Religion is becoming quite synonymous to tradition in these parts of Africa because most religious institutions here often lay out their doctrines in accordance to tradition. Hence, gender inequality is also encouraged by religion. For example, the purdah system practiced in Islam. How is a woman who is never allowed to unveil her face in public supposed to run for a leadership position? Looking into the Christian faction as well, it could be observed that much regard is not accorded the female gender in the Bible.

4. UNDER-ESTIMATION AND MASCULINE BULLYING
The abusive nature of the male gender towards their female counterpart could not be overemphasized. This does not bespeak that all men are abusive towards women, yet the spate of rape and women trafficking today could very well suggest that a good number are into this habit. Even in the littlest of activities such as driving a vehicle, women are constantly faced by abuses from their male counterparts for committing an error that even they could very well have committed.

5. WOMEN ARE MORE EMOTIONAL THAN LOGICAL
Women are naturally more sentimental than men this is often times evident in the decisions they make, they find it difficult to make rash decisions which sometimes needs to be made for things to go well, their sentimental nature in turn becomes a limitation and prevents women from getting leadership roles.

6. WOMEN ARE EASILY DISTRACTED
Due to the sentimental nature of women, they get distracted easily by their emotions and thoughts whereas; to undertake a leadership role you need to get your acts together both physically, emotionally and otherwise. It is even worse when the woman is married and has children, she has to think of the welfare of her husband and most especially that of her children because she also has her matrimonial duties as both a Wife to her husband and a Mother to her children, so combining her role at work and at home is not an easy task.

In summary, I’d like to say that even in the face of all oppositions raised against women attaining leadership positions in the society, women could always take charge of their own lives and attain whatever position they might be aiming for. Some have done it, some are doing it and many will still do it!
