Ok first of all it seems more like GAD to me which could also be as a result of natural shyness,I'm also like you and I'm still in my transition process to become a changed man.There are a lot reasons you feel this way,either you always believe that everyone is staring at you all the time so you feel pretty much insecure and always afraid to screw up in front of others, it could be your environment,the kind people around you,the way you were brought up,are you the type that's always locked up indoors all day while growing up and not given any responsibilities that'll make you active outdoors and lots more which I can't talk about here,trying to make it short as possible.
Ok so here are some my tips that'll help;
1.)Be determined to change and build your self confidence.
2.)Change your environment,start over in a new place where no one knows you, it'll make it alot easier for you to change that way.
3.) Smile more often so it'll send a strong message to others that you're a nice person and available to talk, talking with more people takes your mind off the problem, trust me it builds more self confidence.
4.) Join a church group
5.) Never stay indoors more than an hour at evenings,stay outside,with neighbors or stroll around your hood while smiling (not like psycho o). it might not be easy at first but it'll pay off
6.) Always Make time to call ur friends even the ones that don't call you sef
7.) Pray and read books
8.) Avoid masturbation,that shit can literally drain the juice out of your brains and make you depressed,leading to more complications
9.) Never say no to any offer for social gathering like parties, wedding ceremonies and stuffs like that.
10.) Don't avoid eye contact,try not to count your steps while walking on the street,raise your head high, put your chest out forward and avoid round shoulders by bending your back due to the fact that you're always staring downwards to avoid eye contact. Still have a lot more to share in case you need more help

How was your upbringing? How was the relationship with your parents?
My relationship has been fine with them.

They have done everything for me, I lacked nothing from my childhood to Secondary School days.

My Dad lost his job along the way, we relocated to another environment.That is where we resettled. It was a staff quarters , it was a new and very quiet environment with no childhood friends to mingle(stayed indoors always). I think that was where the problem started.

I am the oldest son.

My dear i feel your pain cos av been there before. I use what is called morringer stem soak with sprite or seven up for four day and after that he should take four tot before meal in the morning for one week
I bet u after two day he will last 10-20 mins hope you wont complain later

So sorry to learn you're suffering from social anxiety. It's a nasty ailment

Social anxiety is wide range and you could be suffering from either General Anxiety Disorder(GAD) to even Agoraphobia

To know what's is really wrong, I suggest you visit a psychologist.

You can try LASUTH at Ikeja. It's free. Only problem is that you can wait for hours to see a shrink

Drugs are another option. You have some very cheap drugs which can help you socialise better, steady your nerves around people.

Battling social phobia is hard.

Shyness and social anxiety are totally different

A shy person has the ability to become confident around someone he is shy around with time. Someone with social anxiety might always feel uncomfortable or freeze around that person forever.

How do you combat social anxiety? It isn't easy as it is a phobia so is based on an irrational fear.

Shyness is like you coming face to face with someone in the ring while social anxiety is you coming face to face with a chair in a ring. No one is holding the chair but its in mid air coming for you! How do you fight it? You'll be so confused and terrified won't you? The fear is deep in your subconscious

Well, I have a few suggestions.

It takes 21 to 60 days to develop a new way of thinking or neural pathway.

For instance,if you're scared of walking down a particular street, if you walk it consistently for 60 days, you'll lose the fear of walking down that street.

So write down your fears and face those fears steadfast for 60 days notwithstanding the humiliation, great discomfort or embarrassment it may cause you.

For instance while walking down a street, you are so filled with anxiety, you meet a friend who you are worried may seem disturbed about your uptight and very self conscious walk. You greet him nervously and while talking, all your mind is on "hope he does not see my discomfort". You try to be as natural around him but your deep inner insecurities you believe are seeping through and are so obvious. You hate how you made a fool of yourself.

The next day you want to go for the walk and you remember how you made a fool of yourself and you shrink back. Because you do not want to make a fool of yourself in front of your friend while walking down that street, you refuse to take the walk again. If however, you continue taking the walk down the street no matter how discomforting it may be or how bad you think it makes you look in the yes of people and you do it for 59 more days, you'll be able to a very good extent overcome a lot of your anxieties. You need fear making a fool of yourself. You learn it doesn't kill you.

Also, as you must have gleaned from the above example, it may be just the presence of just one person that maybe at the root cause on why you're engaged in avoidance.

You need to find out the root causes of why you're irrationally socially anxious. The fear of making a fool of oneself is buried deep in the mind of someone having social anxiety.

Another step is exercise. Start jogging and engaging in either weight lifting or press ups.

Exercise helps to boost your moods and therefore subconsciously taking your mind off your irrational thoughts. It also helps to reduce fear.

Imagine you come across a snake, your heart beats loudly, the loud best tells your mind that snakes are very dangerous and this will reinforce your fear of snakes.

On the other hand, if your heat just makes a small whimper, it tells your brain that snakes aren't that dangerous and that will reduce your fear the next time you encounter them.

Also, engage in deep breathing exercises.

Sit down on chair with your back against the chair. Breath in slowly filling your body with while fully pushing out your stomach.

Then hold your breath and count from 1 to 20 slowly and then breath out slowly through your mouth as though you're smoking a cigarette.

After breathing out, repeat the same process after the count of 40. Repeat as many times as possible until you think your nerves must have calmed down.

Believe it or not, nothing is wrong with you, as most people share the same anxiety. This is mostly because you're too afraid to screw up and may be a little bit of lack of self confidence (this is normal).
My advise is for you is to simply identify exactly why you feel this way, or what is causing you to feel this way and attack the issue....You can do this by facing the demon one on one.
Go out of your way to maintain eye contacts when communicating with anyone (you can start this process by communicating with your siblings, then your friends and then your boss at work.
Also go out of your way to be in the crowd and feel free and happy.

No need to waste your time and money on seeing any clinical psychologist...as Psychologist sef has his or her own demons. You are the only one that can attack this demon and claim the victory.

Or get self-help books with ERP therapy techniques. Google Search and download e-books/pdfs study and apply them. But seeing a professional could be the best remedy.
