An HIV vaccine that has the potential to protect people around the world from the virus has shown promising results. The treatment, which aims to provide immunity against various strains of the virus, produced an anti-HIV immune system response in tests on 393 people, a study in the Lancet found. It also protected some monkeys from a virus that is similar to HIV. More testing is now needed to determine if the immune response produced can prevent HIV infection in people. About 37 million people worldwide live with HIV or Aids, and there are an estimated 1.8 million new cases every year. But despite advances in treatment for HIV, both a cure and a vaccine for the virus have so far remained elusive. Source Link: HIV vaccine shows promise in human trial |
Want to age slowly and live a longer life? Eat right, get adequate sleep and stay positive. “There are a couple of things, one is food for sure. What you eat is what you show on the outside. The second is what and how you think… if you are more positive, if you are happier then your skin and your cells are happy and you don’t age as fast as you would if you were unhappy or stressed,” Neha Ranglani told IANS on behalf of Sony BBC Earth’s show “How to Stay Young”. “The third is sleep, which is super important. These three things determine your youthfulness,” added the nutritionist and wellness expert. Source Link: Slow down ageing with right food, ample sleep |
Untreated or poorly treated diabetes especially Type 2 has well known complications some of which are discussed below. They can be reduced by adequate control of the condition, regular check-up and prompt treatment of any complications as they arise. 1. Sudden Collapse, Coma The most common complication of Diabetes is sudden collapse with or without coma due to very low blood sugar. This could arise if a diabetic failed to eat after taking insulin injection or exercised vigorously immediately after taking insulin. Excess insulin can also cause it. 2. Damage to the eyes: After about fifteen (15) years, about two (2) percent of diabetics may become blind while about ten (10) percent may become partially blind, and about 75 percent, less degree of damage. Cataract is also a known complication. These complications can be prevented by regular eye checks and proper treatment. 3. Damage to the kidneys: This could lead to renal failure. About 15 percent of those with type diabetes 2 could develop end-stage chronic kidney disease if the diabetes is not properly managed. The situation is worse with type 1 diabetes where the percentage gets up to 40. Source: Curled From Possible Complications of Diabetes

Body odour, just like mouth odour, is an unpleasant smell that nobody can cope with. Body odor is a perceived unpleasant smell our bodies can give off when bacteria that live on the skin break down sweat into acids – expert say it is the smell of bacteria growing on the body releasing malodorous chemical compounds in the process. 1. Medical Conditions Some medical conditions may change how much a person sweats, while others can alter how we sweat, consequently changing the way we smell. For example, hyperthyroidism (an over-active thyroid gland) or post menopausal people sweat much more, while liver disease, kidney disease, or diabetes can change the consistency of sweat so that the person smells differently. 2. Unkempt Armpits: A large concentration of apocrine glands exists in the armpit, making that area susceptible to rapid development of body odor. 3. Dirty Socks Dirty socks smell especially if wet. The best socks are those made of a combination of man-made fibers and wool. Wear a clean pair of socks each day in hot and humid environment. Also Road Some food sources of healthy Lipids (fat) 4. A man has revealed how he slept in the same room as his wife’s body for six days after she died. Wendy Davison, 50, died at home in Derby last month after a 10-year battle with cervical cancer. Russell Davison, who has been left “heartbroken”, said he did not want her body to go to a mortuary and he wanted to challenge attitudes towards dying. It is legal to keep a body at home and Derbyshire Coroner’s Court confirmed Mrs Davison’s GP reported her death. Mr Davison said: “Death seems to be such a taboo subject in our society; no-one seems to want to talk about it. “I did not want her in the mortuary or handed over to a funeral director, I wanted us to take care of her ourselves at our family home, have her in our bedroom so I could sleep in the same room.” When Mrs Davison was diagnosed shortly after the couple’s joint 40th birthday party in 2006, they decided to take a “natural” approach to her healthcare. “We were not prepared to hand her life over to doctors. We wanted to do our own research and do the very best job we could to keep Wendy alive,” he said. He believes their approach, which included refusing chemotherapy and radiotherapy, extended Wendy’s life “by a very long time”. "Well I am now left with the question that kept me wondering if he actually aided her death or prolong her life." SOURCE: Husband slept in same room as wife’s body for six days

Humility is a virtue possessed by few; I am not talking of religious humility which refers to acceptance of God as the creator. I am talking about relating with other mortals. Humility is meaningful if in-spite of accomplishments whether in business, bureaucracy, academia or corporate, you are still approachable and recognize the attributes of others. Humble people have a modest estimate or low estimate of their achievements and are open to ideas. They accept criticisms and accept faults genuinely. Humility knows no ego, the opposite of humility is pride or arrogance. Humility is different from low esteem, low self worth; it is also different from being from humble background. If you have humility, you are more likely to be happy than if you are arrogant/proud The writer cannot describe himself but I would give anything to be humble if I am not.....CONTINUE READING....
