The Wife of the Mbo Local Government Council Chairman, Mrs Veronica Sunday Etim, has paid a morale-boosting visit to the trainees at the Mbo Vocational Craft Centre in Enwang. Mrs Etim interacted with the 100 trainees undergoing various vocational trainings at the centre. She encouraged them to remain steadfast and focused as they acquire practical skills for self-reliance. During the visit, she inspected the facilities to assess their condition and ensure the smooth operation of the centre.

Commending the trainees for their dedication and discipline, she described their commitment as a strong indication of a brighter economic future for Mbo. As part of her support, Mrs Etim donated cash to assist with their transportation and welfare.

She also appreciated her husband, the Chairman of Mbo Local Government Council, for prioritising human capital development and creating opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs across the area. In a show of gratitude, the management of Mbo Vocational Craft Centre presented her with a beautifully crafted portrait while the trainees took her measurements to sew outfits for her as a token of appreciation for her generosity and encouragement.

Mbo Vocational Craft Centre was established to promote entrepreneurship, reduce unemployment, and empower indigenes of Mbo through sustainable skill acquisition programmes.

ORO STUDENTS UNITED; STRONGER TOGETHER, A DREAM DELAYED

I write this message with a heavy heart, yet with an untroubled mind and unwavering resolve. I nursed a genuine ambition to serve Oro students at home and in the diaspora as International President General of the Oro Students’ Union Worldwide, a union that represents the soul, voice, and collective struggle of Oro students across boundaries.
This dream was inspired by the urgent need to bridge long-standing gaps within our union, gaps of inclusion, coordination, welfare, unity, and purposeful leadership. It was driven by a desire to carry the burdens of Oro students, to confront their shared challenges, and to strengthen the identity and relevance of OSU-WW as a truly united global student body. Hence, the mantra that defined this journey:
Oro students united; stronger together.
January 14, 2026 became a defining and sobering moment. It was a grey day when this dream was brought to an abrupt halt. Yet, I am consoled by the fact that the vision was not wasted. In submitting myself to the process and engaging the journey in good faith, we reached students, sparked conversations on unity, restored hope in collective leadership, and made meaningful impacts, often at personal inconvenience and sacrifice.

I sincerely appreciate the leadership of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr John Bassey, for his guidance, sense of responsibility, and commitment to institutional order. I also thank the Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Dr Akaiso Oboho, for his diligence, consistency, and service to the ideals of the union.

My profound gratitude goes to the Mbo stakeholders, ably led by Barr Pius Okon, Esq., and his devoted secretary, Pst. Godwin Alex, for their maturity, engagement, and commitment to unity above sectional interest. I equally recognize and appreciate the integrity and moral authority of His Royal Majesty, Asukwo Isemin, as well as the principled leadership of the NAMS-WW President, Comr. Godwin Asukwo, whose support for fairness and student solidarity remains commendable.

I appreciate the service and leadership of the immediate past President of the Oro Students’ Union Worldwide, Comr. Anthony Eyoh, and I commend the ELECO Committee Chairman Comr. Joseph Effiong, his secretary, Sen. Sam Okon Emetuei and all committee members for their efforts and sacrifices in the discharge of their duties.

To every Oro student who believed in the vision, who spoke to the next person about the mission, who shared the message across chapters, platforms, and borders, I am deeply grateful. Your support affirmed that this journey was bigger than one person; it was about a collective dream.

Finally, I wish all cleared candidates the very best and urge my friends, supporters, and comrades to refrain from any act that could disrupt the peace, unity, and integrity of Oro Students’ Union Worldwide.

To all Oro students at home and in the diaspora, thank you for the trust, encouragement, and overwhelming support, even when I was duly disqualified. The dream may be delayed, but the commitment to serve remains unbroken.
Oro students united; stronger together.
The journey continues.
Thank you, team Oro students United; stronger together!

DECLARATION OF INTENT FOR THE 2026 PRESIDENTIAL RACE OF ORO STUDENTS' UNION WORLDWIDE (OSU-WW)

Fellow Oro Students at home and in the diaspora,
History teaches us that leadership is not a title but a responsibility accepted at the moment a people decide to rise above their limitations. Aristotle reminds us that the purpose of leadership is the common good, while African philosophy, captured in the spirit of Ubuntu, teaches that I am, because we are. It is within this understanding of shared destiny and collective responsibility that I stand before you today.
Having closely followed and actively engaged with the affairs of Oro Students’ Union Worldwide over the years, I have seen our strengths, felt our pains, and understood our challenges, from weak coordination among chapters, to declining participation, limited welfare support, and the gradual loss of collective confidence among our students. These realities are not distant stories to me; they are lived experiences shared by many of us.
It is therefore with humility, conviction, and a deep sense of service that *I, Patrick Ita Okon,* declare my intent to contest for the office of International President of Oro Students’ Union World-wide (OSU-WW) for the 2026 tenure.

Oro Students United; Stronger Together.
The philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau argues that societies thrive when individuals willingly unite under a shared social contract for mutual benefit. In the same spirit, Oro Students’ Union exists because we believe that together we are stronger than we are apart.

Our mantra, “Oro Students' United; Stronger Together,” is not a slogan; it is a philosophy of action.
United, because division weakens our collective voice.
Stronger Together, because unity is our greatest capital in a world that constantly challenges student identity, opportunity, and voice.

I am here because I believe the time has come to reconcile our differences, reconsolidate our structures, and reawaken the collective spirit of Oro students worldwide.

From a philosophical standpoint, Hegel teaches that progress emerges when contradictions are resolved through unity. Likewise, our Union can only move forward when divisions give way to dialogue, apathy gives way to participation, and distrust gives way to transparency.

My leadership vision is anchored on reconciliation, between chapters, between leadership and members, and between our past aspirations and future possibilities. I seek not to rule, but to serve as a unifier, a bridge builder, and a mobilizer of collective strength.
If entrusted with your mandate, my administration will be guided by:
Integrity and accountability, because leadership without moral credibility is empty.
Inclusive governance, ensuring every chapter and every student feels seen, heard, and valued.
Student centered development, focusing on welfare, capacity building, academic support, and global networking.
Transparency and participation, because true democracy thrives when power flows from the people upward.

Drawing from Plato’s idea of the philosopher leader, I pledge to lead with wisdom, empathy, and reason, placing the long term interest of Oro students above personal ambition.

I am here because I have seen the challenges of Oro students, and I am convinced that resignation is not our destiny. I am here because, I believe Oro Students' Union (OSU-WW) can once again become a vibrant, respected, and effective platform for student unity, advocacy, and progress. Above all, I am here because Oro students deserve leadership that listens, unites, and delivers.

This journey is not about me alone. It is about all of us, our dreams, our struggles, and our future. As the African proverb says, “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.”
I therefore call on you, leaders, elders, comrades, and students across all chapters, to join me in this collective mission.
Let us arise from apathy to action.
Let us stand united in purpose and vision.
Let us prove that indeed, Oro Students are Stronger Together.
With faith in our shared destiny and confidence in our collective strength, I humbly seek your support and your vote.

DECLARATION OF INTENT FOR THE 2026 ELECTION DIRECTOR OF MEDIA AND PUBLICITY ORO STUDENTS’ UNION WORLDWIDE (OSU-WW)

Dear Esteemed Members of the Oro Students’ Union Worldwide,

I, Gabriel Effiong, fondly known as ULAP, hereby declare my intention to contest for the position of Director of Media and Publicity of the Oro Students’ Union Worldwide (OSU-WW) in the 2026 elections, under our Ethnic Constituency Union.

This declaration is born out of a deep sense of responsibility, service, and commitment to the growth, unity, and positive visibility of the Oro people. I am driven by a clear vision: to strengthen our collective voice, preserve our identity, and project the achievements and aspirations of Oro students across the world with excellence, integrity, and innovation.

I am currently a student of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, in the Department of Software and Web Development, and a practicing Web Developer. This background has positioned me at the intersection of technology, communication, and modern media skills that are critical in today’s fast-evolving digital landscape. I understand not just how to communicate, but how to strategically deploy digital tools, platforms, and data to build influence, engagement, and trust.

My journey in media and publicity is rooted in practical service and measurable impact. I serve as a Media Aide to the Chairman of Mbo Local Government Area, In that role, I learned the value of clarity, accountability, and timely information in building public trust.

I also had the privilege of serving as Media Aide to the President of the Oro Unity Forum, a platform that unites both students and elders. By God’s grace, I contributed meaningfully to content creation, digital engagement, and public outreach, helping to promote our cultural heritage, mobilize participation, and strengthen the forum’s public image. These experiences have sharpened my competence in strategic communication, digital media management, audience engagement, and responsible storytelling.

At this critical time in our union’s journey, the office of Director of Media and Publicity requires more than routine posting or announcements. It demands vision, technical competence, credibility, and consistency. I bring all four. I understand the responsibility of shaping narratives that unite rather than divide, inform rather than confuse, and inspire rather than merely impress.

If elected, I commit to building a responsive, transparent, and technology-driven media structure for OSU-WW. My agenda includes:

* Strengthening our digital presence across platforms
* Showcasing the achievements of Oro students globally
* Promoting union activities with professionalism and accuracy
* Combating misinformation through timely and verified communication
* Creating inclusive media platforms where every voice matters
* Leveraging partnerships and digital innovation for growth and visibility

The name “ULAP” is not just a nickname it is an identity and a code of values I live by. ULAP represents Unity, Loyalty, Accountability, and Progress. These principles define my character, guide my service, and shape my leadership style. They are the standards I hold myself to, both in public service and personal conduct.

I humbly seek your support and mandate, not merely as an aspirant, but as a servant-leader prepared to work, listen, and deliver. Together, with God’s guidance, we can build a stronger, more visible, and more united Oro Students’ Union Worldwide one that honours our heritage and prepares our future.

Thank you for your time, your trust, and your belief in our shared vision.

May God bless the Oro Students’ Union Worldwide.

Sincerely,
(ULAP) Gabriel Effiong
Aspirant for Director of Media and Publicity

The Chairman of Mbo Local Government, Hon. Sunday Etim, JP, earlier today made a brief but significant stop at the Mbo Vocational Craft Centre, where the ongoing training of Mbo youths is in full swing.

During the visit, the Chairman interacted warmly with the trainees. He expressed delight at their level of commitment and enthusiasm. He encouraged them to remain focused and dedicated to their various skill acquisition programmes and emphasised that the knowledge and experience they gain at the centre will not only empower them individually but also contribute meaningfully to the development of Mbo and Akwa Ibom State at large.

Hon. Etim noted that the vision behind the revival of the Vocational Craft Centre is anchored on the Arise Agenda of the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, which places a premium on human capacity development, job creation, and sustainable economic empowerment. He reiterated his administration’s determination to ensure that Mbo youth acquire practical skills that will make them self-reliant, innovative, and productive members of the society.

The Chairman commended the facilitators and instructors at the centre for their dedication to duty and for maintaining high standards of training. He urged them to continue to give their best in nurturing the next generation of skilled entrepreneurs and professionals from Mbo.

Some of the trainees expressed appreciation to the Chairman for reviving and equipping the vocational centre. They described the gesture as a life-changing opportunity and assured the Chairman of their readiness to justify the government’s investment by working hard to excel in their chosen crafts.

The brief visit, though unscheduled, further reinforced Hon. Etim’s personal commitment to youth empowerment and his belief that the surest path to community development lies in equipping young people with skills, confidence, and a strong sense of purpose.

I’ll share a short story.

Recently, while documenting a training session in Owerri, my phone rang. It was a strange number. Out of curiosity, I picked up.

The voice on the other end said:
“Good afternoon, Eminence.”

I was silent for a moment. That greeting reminded me of something we often forget: no good deed ever goes unnoticed.

Sometimes, we get tired of showing up for people, lending a hand, or even doing our work with sincerity because it feels like nobody cares. But the truth is, life is recording every little thing we do.

And at the right time, the reward comes — not always from where we expect.

I’m sharing this because I believe someone here on Nairaland might need this reminder today:
Keep doing good. Someone, somewhere is inspired by you.

I write often about real-life lessons, personal experiences, media, and growth journeys. If you’d love to connect with me and see more, I’ll be glad to welcome you here:

PoliticsMbo Council Chairman Convenes Stakeholders' Meeting by gabdan(op): 10:39pm On Aug 31, 2025
Mbo Council Chairman Convenes Stakeholders’ Meeting on Voter Registration, APC Membership Revalidation

In a bid to strengthen the All Progressives Congress (APC) grassroots structure in Mbo Local Government Area, key stakeholders convened at the instance of the Mbo Council Chairman, Hon. Sunday Etim, JP.

During the meeting, the Executive Director of Projects, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Sir Victor Antai, stressed the urgent need for stakeholders to return to their respective wards and actively engage in voter registration. He emphasised that grassroots participation is crucial to the political strength of the party.

The Chairman, Hon. Sunday Etim, JP, reiterated this call, urging all ward Personal Assistants (PAs) to the Governor, Supervisors, and Councillors to intensify efforts and work collectively to mobilise eligible voters for registration. He noted that such a united front is very important to achieve the party’s strategic goals in the area.

To coordinate the exercise effectively, a sub-committee was constituted at the ward level, tasked with overseeing mobilisation and coordination efforts.

Speaking at the meeting, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Bureau of Cooperative and Rural Development, Rt. Hon. Alice Ekpenyong, advocated for the inclusion of all ward PAs, Supervisors, Councillors, APC ward chairmen, and youth leaders into the sub-committees. She commended the Enwang community for their proactive mobilisation and encouraged them to intensify their efforts.

In his contribution, Sir Michael Essang proposed a rotational schedule where each ward would be assigned specific days to conduct registration, to ensure an organised and effective process.

In recognition of his leadership and organisational capabilities, Hon. Sunday Etim was appointed Chairman of the Central Committee for the mobilisation of voters across Mbo.

The meeting ended with a firm resolution that “politics is a game of numbers, and Mbo must not be left behind.”
