Karleb:to be sincere, you don't really need to learn how to play blues pentatonic minor especially as a keyboardist. I only use them when I'm playing worship on the bass guitar 'cos the shape is pretty simple. |

Largas:Dude, I admire your ability to offer homilies to fools. He claims to be Mr, I-Am-Smart. Yet he doesn't know that a University only gives students the platform to be Useful not to detect bad use of English and use it to become Promiscuous. Afterall, Action and Reaction are equal and opposite in direction, innit?. I was only giving him a dose of his own medicine. By the way, have you been able to garner any information from UniUyo? |

Pennyways:Mr. I-Can-Speak-Good-English, there's no need to watch his grammar. I can hear your typing Pennyways:You need to be shot in the head, buried and shot again for this. Even if he typed a collection of alarm-bells, how does it affect your already hopeless situation ? Stop being Pathetic. At least we understood the information he's trying to pass across. Music/Radio / Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by gameboi: 3:43pm On Dec 07, 2014 |
Karleb:the idea behind forming them is using tension and relief. You need to play a chord that sounds wicked to the ear and then move on to another chord that will appease the ear. If not, all eyes would be on you. Most times I do them instinctively Let's do it this way. I'll give some chords with a passing chord(in bold leters)in between, then you'll play it and tell me the chord that eases the tension. KeyF# Left Hand | Right Hand G# | G# C Eb Bb | Bb C# F D | Bb D F ------- | ----------- Fill in the ------- with a suitable chord. |

zbone:hahaha! Lolz. when I found myself in such cases, I used to reduce the volume of the keyboard to the level where only I can hear it and then move my fingers over the keys. You need to see my face, I'd be seriousiy playing anything at that time . God knows I wasn't playing anything that relates at all, but It helped in avoiding the embarrassment |
Music/Radio / Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by gameboi: 10:52am On Dec 06, 2014 |
zbone:Lol do you know that awkward moment when the chorister changes to an unknown key and you're like ''which kind winchi be this one?'' then other choristers would be lost and you'd get exposed. The keyboard had a transpose function but most times, it would be tough to change keys in seconds. And as a good keyboardist the proper thing to do is to modulate. 1 Like |

@Estarkeys You're right but In My Opinion, the theorical aspect makes one more creative and gives the confidence to try out something new. I remember when I used to play only on keyC and keyF. Hmm! I quarrelled a Lot with the singers after service especially if they couldn't hold on to a particular key. Was it their fault? I had to stay-off playing the keyboard for 3months just to download E-books on playing the keyboard and learn the theorical aspect. When I returned? The rest is history. |

Karleb:. What is it? |
Music/Radio / Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by gameboi: 3:49pm On Dec 05, 2014 |
The Passing chord that is used when Moving to the fifth of any scale is derived from the 2-5-1 progression. In the key of F( F G A Bb C D E F), the second note(which is always a Minor) is G while the Fifth note is C. Hence the movement is Gminor - Cmajor- Fmajor. But when a passing chord should is added, it becomes 2-2maj-5-1. i.e, the Minor is changed to a major before moving to the fifth. Gminor- Gmaj-Cmaj-Fmaj. I've heard this passing chord being used in various songs and trust me, It doesn't sound bad . The other methods of moving to the fifth using passing chords are beyond the scope of this post 'cos it involves ear and brain work. 1 Like |

Music/Radio / Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by gameboi: 8:53am On Dec 05, 2014 |
The second way of moving to the fourth with a passing chord is to play the fifth note of the scale in a Minor. In the key of B(B C# Eb E F# G# G# Bb B'). The fifth note is the F#. Therefore to move to E(which is the fourth note), F#minor( F# A C#) would be played. The other method of moving to the fourth of a scale is beyond the scope of this post. It is a bit difficult to explain because it involves ear and brain work . |

Music/Radio / Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by gameboi: 12:05am On Dec 05, 2014 |
zbone:when using a passing chord to move to the fourth note of any scale, you'll need to play around a circle of fourths. In the Key of C#, the notes in the scale are: C# Eb F F# G# Bb C . C#. The fourth note in the scale is F#. Hence, the passing chord when moving to the F# would be the fourth note of the scale of F#(F# G# Bb B C# Eb F F#) which is B. Please note that the fourth of any key is always a Major. Therefore, Bmajor would be played. The easiest way to remember this method is just to use the 7b of the present key you're playing. (The 7b of C# is B). I'll explain The other method of moving to the fourth And how to move to a fifth tomorrow. 2 Likes |

Passing chords are illegally legitimate chords. The rules involving the creation of passing chords are based on: 1. Moving in half-steps. 2. Moving to the fourth 3. Moving to the fifth 4. Other Movements what I posted above might not always work. But they always work Sorry for the late reply. You guys are not trying oh, a simple mention might just be enough to remind me. Won't it ? |

@dramiddy and zbone In other words, they both differ by an Octave. Well, that's what I was telling him. @karleb which Passing chords again ? Anyway, there's a particular way of forming passing chords. I'll post it here tomorrow. |
