Phones / Samsung Replaces Microsd Card With UFS 2.0 by ganaziah(f): 3:49pm On Jul 08, 2016 |
Samsung and SanDisk are looking to one-up each other when it comes to expandable memory for smartphones and any other device that supports a microSD card. SanDisk made a 200GB card last year that is quite affordable, and then Samsung came up with a 256GB model . A few weeks ago, SanDisk matched Samsung’s 256GB card with two new microSD options of its own , both more affordable than Samsung’s card. But Samsung stepped up its game and killed the microSD card completely. The company’s latest memory offering is a UFS 2.0 storage solution that will work with any device that has microSDXC support, but it offers the same lightning-fast storage experience as the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7. In fact, these new cards are just as fast as SSD drives. Samsung last year switched to UFS 2.0 storage for high-end mobile devices , with the Galaxy S6 being the first to get these new ultra-fast memory chips. Short for Universal Flash Storage, UFS can significantly improve the smartphone experience, allowing faster access to the contents of a phone. Expanding UFS 2.0 support to swappable cards seems only logical for Samsung, and the move would let diehard Android fans to take advantage of Android’s adoptable storage feature – here’s how to enable it on the Galaxy S7 . Oddly enough, Samsung does not mention Android devices in its press release , saying the new memory card has been designed for “mobile shooting devices such as DSLRs, 3D VR cameras, action cams and drones.” Samsung did not announce actual release dates or pricing details for the UFS 2.0 memory cards either, but it did reveal performance details. The cards offer “more than five times faster sequential read performance compared to that of a typical microSD card,” as they’re able to read sequentially at 530 MB/s, which is on par with SSD sequential read speeds. “With this UFS card, consumers have the ability to read a 5GB, Full-HD movie in approximately 10 seconds, compared to a typical UHS-1 microSD card, which would take over 50 seconds with 95MB/s of sequential reading speed,” Samsung writes. “Also, at a random read rate of 40,000 IOPS, the 256GB card delivers more than 20 times higher random read performance compared to a typical microSD, which offers approximately 1,800 IOPS.” UFS cards will read a 5GB Full HD movie in 10 seconds, compared to 50 seconds for a microSD card that can do up to 95MB/s sequential reading. As for write speeds, the 256GB UFS card reaches a top speed of 170MB/s, or almost twice the speeds the fastest microSD card can achieve. “To shoot 24 large/extra fine JPEG photographs (1,120 megabyte (MB)-equivalent) continuously with a high-end DSLR camera, the 256GB UFS card takes less than seven seconds, compared to a UHS-1 microSD card which typically takes about 32 seconds, at 35MB/s,” Samsung explains. Well, SanDisk, the ball is in your court now. Source: http://bgr.com/2016/07/07/fastest-256gb-microsd-card-samsung-ufs/ 8 Likes 3 Shares

Agriculture / Massive New Vertical Farm Will Grow 2 Million Pounds Of Fresh Produce Each Year by ganaziah(f): 1:38pm On Jul 07, 2016 |
With less available land and more people to feed each year, we have a real problem on our hands, whether or not we all choose to acknowledge it. However, some people are already considering ways to fix it, and one of the most viable solutions is to build massive vertical farms that require no soil, use water efficiently, and replace the sun with LED lighting to grow fresh produce. The biggest vertical farm in the world is currently under construction in New Jersey, and it will produce some 2 million pounds of lettuce and other leafy greens per year once it’s completed. AeroFarm already operates one such farm and the results have been extraordinary. The facility is able to grow vegetables indoors without requiring fertile soil or any sunlight at all. These crops consume less water as well, since the system uses a root-misting nutrition and oxygenation procedure that needs 95% less water than a regular field. Also of note, crops can be grown all year long, and they grow at faster rates than on a typical farm. AeroFarm is building a massive farm in a 70,000-square-foot space in New Jersey that used to be a steel mill, Gizmodo reports. Once completed, the new farm will deliver up to 2 million pounds of leafy green produce each year. A company has been taking the same approach to modern farming in Japan. A company called Mirai has a 25,000 square feet vertical garden which used to be the world’s largest, capable of harvesting about 10,000 heads of fresh lettuce a day, according to a July 2014 report from National Geographic. As these new farming solutions become more popular among farmers, we can expect other products to grow inside vertical farms. Mirai chose to focus on leafy green produce because this type of approach makes the “most economic sense” since these are “fast-growing vegetables that can be sent to market quickly.” However, the same methods used to grow lettuce in vertical farms can be adapted to any plant, according to the company. Phones / All About The Rumoured And Highly Expected Samsung Galaxy Note 7 by ganaziah(f): 6:32pm On Jul 06, 2016 |
Good day everyone! I've gone through the phone section to find any news about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 7 yet to be released this year but since I couldn't find any, I decided to post it myself. We all know Samsung releases various categories of phones with different specifications ranging from medium to high-end smartphones every year (though there has been a recent restructure strategy to cut the rate of phones released each year for better and sustainable focus) and we've heard of the Samsung Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge variants released few months ago. It is Samsung's tradition to release the Galaxy Note variant each year as we witnessed the successful story of last year's Galaxy Note 5 (one of the best designed smartphone for year 2015). This year, Samsung will be skipping the chronological order of naming these devices as it will be jumping from 5 all the way to 7 (i.e from Galaxy Note 5 all the way to Galaxy Note 7 skipping the Note 6, best reasons known to them). I'll try to be brief......... The most reliable rumors suggest that the Note keeps its 5.7-inch screen, but adds a USB-C port (they're all the rage) and an iris scanner for unlocking the phone with your eyes. Let's take stock of the most telling rumors. (P.S. remember, they're unsubstantiated, so anything could happen!) Note 7's the name: Chronology be damned! The internet agrees, the next Note will be the Galaxy Note 7 and not the Galaxy Note 6, even though 2015's model was called the Note 5. But who cares about logic when there's branding at stake? Launch date: Early August instead of late August. The phone would come ahead of Apple's yearly iPhone launch in early September, which usually falls in the first two weeks of the month. Twitter tipster Evan Blass, who has built a reputation of accurate leaks, suggests that the phone will start selling around August 15 . Curved display up front: The Note 7's display will look more like the S7 Edge than the straight-faced Note 5, according to a recent rumour . Totally new software interface: New software, new name. The TouchWiz interface that Samsung has used for years to differentiate its phones from other Android -makers could see a major overhaul, including a potential name change. We might kiss TouchWiz goodbye and open our arms to Grace, a more paired-down yet interactive take on phone software, shown in an allegedly leaked video (below) from Italian site HD.Blog.IT. Updated Note software, too: This time, we could see a lightly refreshed style with different icons, but much the same functionality to handwrite, scribble and navigate with a touch of the S Pen to the screen. Pressure-sensitive screen? Not too likely From what I can see in the Italian video above (which cites the build-of-unknown-origin as "Note5", the Note 7 doesn't look like it borrows Apple's pressure-sensitive display, which lets you press and hold until the screen gently jostles to pull up more granular data. Still, this is a persistent rumor, and one we also heard about the Galaxy S7 (it didn't happen). Iris scanner for real this time: We've also heard tell of an iris scanner that can unlock your phone by staring you in the eye. The iris scanner loomed large in Galaxy S4 rumors, too, but turned out to be a different feature that kept the screen from locking when you looked at it often enough. Now that Microsoft's iris-scanning "Windows Hello" feature in the Lumia 950 has made the security option a reality, it's much more likely that Samsung will include a real iris scanner this time around. Other suspected specs 5.7-inch screen 12-megapixel camera 5-megapixel front-facing camera IP68 certified against water and dust 64GB of space expandable through a microSD card (the Note 7 is also rumoured to feature a 256GB internal memory with an expandable microSD of 256GB. This could make the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 to be the first mobile device to come with a monstrous memory capacity), so we are going to be having different memory package e.g 64, 128 & 256GB respectively depending on what your money can buy. USB Type-C port; Quick Charge 3.0 4,200mAh battery Black, silver, blue colors Price and availability: As a rule of thumb, Samsung's prices hover on the higher end of the scale, and a stylus-packing handset like the Note goes for more than a smaller, more mainstream model like the S7. If prices hold from 2015, expect the 64GB version of the Note 7 to sashay out for roughly $800, which converts to roughly £600 and AU$1,080. Prices will vary further by region, carrier, storage capacity and promotional deals. Converted to Nigeria Naira @ N350 * $800 = 280,000 (based on speculation and not official) Coined by, ganaziah & http://www.cnet.com/products/samsung-galaxy-note-7/

Sports / Maradona: Bale's Contributed More To Euro 2016 Than CR7 by ganaziah(f): 5:34pm On Jul 06, 2016 |
Footballing great Diego Maradona believes Gareth Bale has contributed more to Wales' progress than Cristiano Ronaldo has for Portugal at Euro 2016. Real Madrid team-mates Bale and Ronaldo will go head-to-head in a blockbuster semi-final in Lyon on Wednesday. Bale and Wales have taken the European Championship by storm, Chris Coleman's men entertaining all the way to the final four, with the former's three goals aiding their cause. The same cannot be said about Portugal, who have stifled their way to the semis, drawing all five games in regulation time. Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has scored two goals, though he has often cut a frustrated figured in France. "This will also be a clash between the left and right flanks of Real Madrid," Maradona wrote in his column for the Times of India. "It's a team game, where you do look up to individuals like Ronaldo and Bale, if you have them. Ball control, speed and shooting make them special. "Their contributions will always be crucial because they can create that decisive moment. So far, Bale has contributed more to his team's progress than Portugal have got from Ronaldo." Maradona added: "It would have amused many before the tournament, had they been told about a Wales versus Portugal semi-final. Quarter-finalists in their only World Cup appearance in 1958, the Red Dragons have looked like anything but novices in their first Euro finals. "All European teams have a sense of positional discipline and Wales is no exception. Chris Coleman's boys have adapted well to the modern 3-5-2 formation. Blessed with a dash of talent up front, they prefer creating chances on the break. "Average in comparison against others in the last four, Portugal have taken the difficult route and are still to win in regulation time after five matches. But they have displayed tactical maturity in a 4-1-3-2 system in reaching this stage for the fourth time in five editions since 2000. "Talisman [Ronaldo] largely off colour, the rest have made up for it by playing for each other, an invaluable trait in major knockouts. "Coming this far without too much from their star shows Portugal's strength in unity. Young Renato Sanches has belied age to become a massive presence in midfield, with Pepe providing solidity at the back. It's difficult to pick favourites at this stage, but Wales start with an edge. But individual spark often becomes decisive. Portugal have someone capable of providing that. At 31, he would be wondering if this is his last shot at international glory." What do you guys think about both players so far? Share your views! http://pulse.ng/sports/football/euro-2016-maradona-bales-contributed-more-to-euro-2016-than-cr7-id5231000.html

Anyone can simply respond by telling her to bring them along, it's a date between two people for heaven's sake and not with friends. I can't forget the day I decided to use load airtime so that I could subscribe for Internet data using my Access Mobile Banking App. I opted for 3K and the verified and thereby sent, I didn't see any alert or notifications on my phone, but because the money in my account remained intact, I sent another one thinking the first one was a mistake, still no alert or network notification that I've successfully loaded my airtime. All those while, my money was still intact, no sign was given that I've made any transaction, I did another one till the the 7th time. That's how I gave up. When I woke up the next the day, I saw 9 messages from Access Bank. It was when I checked I saw that they remitted the last transaction I did, the rest entered voice-mail. Up till today, that's how my 15K went oo Nigerian Banks need probing. 1 Like 1 Share |

Education / First Class Student Barred From Graduation For Refusal To Shave Beard by ganaziah(f): 6:30pm On Jun 01, 2016 |
Andrew Jones who is a student of Amite High school in Louisiana, Mexico, is reportedly the head of his class and a first class student but none of these attributes had been enough to allow the school authorities overlook something as simple as his beard. Jones who had been meant to deliver the valedictory speech during the graduation has also been stripped of that honour over his violation of the school policy on facial hair. Local news station, WWLTV , reports that the 4.0 student has sported his goatee for four years now, but is also amo0ng a group of 14 students asked to shave their beard upon their arrival at the school's graduation ceremony held on Wednesday, May 18, 2016. Upon their arrival at the ceremony, they had been warned that if they refused to go into the bathroom to shave their beards, they would not be graduating with the rest of their class. The reports reveal that Jones had been the only one who had refused on the grounds that the rule had never been enforced prior to the graduation ceremony. Jones had held his ground even though he knew his high school graduation was a once in a life time event. Speaking during an interview, Jones said: "Eventually they took my gown. "They told me they had to take my gown from me. It doesn't make sense, every day of school I went with it, even more, I did shave. I had like sides and everything, but I shaved that for graduation." Expressing her displeasure over the situation, Jones' aunt, Sabrina Davis said: "What was the real issue that he couldn't walk with his class? "He was top of his class, you know, that moment was the most important moment of his life." Mr Kolwe also revealed that the Principal for Amite High was unavailable to explain the reasons for allowing Jones sport a beard throughout the school year but not on graduation day. http://pulse.ng/gist/in-mexico-first-class-student-barred-from-graduation-for-refusal-to-shave-beard-id5059174.html 2 Likes
