Kaduna State Government is committed to help place the Kaduna State University (KASU) at the forefront of the revolution in higher education in Nigeria.

Governor Nasir El Rufai who made this pledge at the groundbreaking ceremony of the permanent site of the main campus of the University on Friday also paid tribute to his predecessors who founded KASU.

The governor who was represented by Dr Hadiza Balarabe, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, challenged the management of KASU to partner with private and public institutions to fund and locate projects at the permanent site.

Dr Balarabe also appealed to Kaduna state’s ‘’development partners and friends in the corporate world to support our drive to build a world-class university. ‘’

“Since 2015, the focus of the Kaduna State Government on human capital development has come to be recognised as a pillar of our Putting People First governance agenda.

“Central to this has been a relentless drive to expand access to Education and Health. It is no accident that these two sectors consistently account for the biggest chunk of our annual budget,’’ she explained.

According to the Deputy Governor, Kaduna state has ‘’ prioritised the first 12 years of education, making education free and compulsory till the completion of secondary school.

“This has necessitated a continuous effort to reverse the consequences of decades of neglect of the sector. The state government continues to invest in renovating schools and building new schools and classrooms where necessary,’’ she added.

Dr Balarabe further noted that ‘’technical and vocational education is receiving similar attention, as is the prime question of empowering our people with the skills for the 21st Century.’’

The Deputy Governor noted that KASU had functioned from the main campus in Kaduna and the Kafanchan campus.

“During our first term, we adopted a multicampus policy for all state-owned tertiary institutions, to further expand access to these schools,’’ she argued.

Dr Balarabe further said that the El Rufai administration decided to move KASU’s main campus to the vast land in Rigachikun, from the limited space in which its Kaduna campus began

Troops in Kaduna State have killed Rufai Maikaji, a deadly bandit who commanded over a hundred fighters that terrorized communities in the state.

Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner of Home Affairs and Internal Security said on Thursday, that the development was after painstaking checks with security agencies and careful exploitation of numerous human intelligence sources.

“The Kaduna State Government can authoritatively confirm that one Rufai Maikaji and dozens of his fighters were neutralized during air interdictions around the fringes of Malul Forest in Igabi LGA of Kaduna Central Senatorial District,” he said.

“The aerial missions in which ‘Rufai Maikaji’ and his gang were neutralized were conducted in late February when he (Rufai Maikaji) and the bandits under his command, on sighting ground troops, escaped from Anaba village of Igabi LGA where they killed some citizens, burnt houses and kidnapped some locals.”

“The prompt response by the air platforms ended the reign of terror maintained by ‘Rufai Maikaji’ and his bloodsucking accomplices,” he said.

From further checks, ‘Rufai Maikaji’ and his group were confirmed to be responsible for the killing, kidnapping, and cattle rustling in many communities in Giwa, Igabi and Chikun LGAs, especially in the following locations: Iyatawa, Garke, Kumfa, Bakali, Karau-karau and Galadimawa, Anaba, Kerawa, Hashimawa, Sabon Birni, Buruku general area and parts of Chikun LGA axis of Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road.

‘Rufai Maikaji’ is said to have begun his ignoble career as an errand boy to some deadly bandits in and around Sabon Birni general area of Igabi LGA. From this position, he grew to become a household name in banditry.

The Kaduna State Government, military, police, DSS, and all agencies have assured residents of the communities that suffered the brutality of ‘Rufai Maikaji’, that aggressive pursuit of other accomplices who escaped the onslaught is in full swing, and they will be caught sooner rather than later.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai praised the military for taking down the bandit leader and his accomplices. The Governor further assured them of the firm commitment of the government and people of Kaduna State in the ongoing operations against the bandits throughout the state.
