Please I have another question for my cousin in Abuja. The resumption date on his I-20 January is 3rd, the next available date for an interview in Abuja is Janaury 8th. Though he contacted his school for a late arrival letter. Can he go ahead with the late arrival letter and the I20 that states January 3rd for the interview ? Thanks. Sure, he can still make it as far he's with the late arrival letter.. but why Jan 8th that's far now. To be on a safer side, he should book and keep on checking the interview dates cos it's always changing o.. |

Checked & applied I think it's better to put it this way, VO: Why this School? You: Aside from the fact that my dad is an Alumni of the schoo which made me feel at home(or any best statement),and out of other school that I considered while applying, I've been able to figure out that BSU is an international bla bla(you must say something unique cos those VO are not stupid).. NB: make sure you tell the VO the problem that you are trying to solve, I'm sure you don't want the VO to crack his/her head trying to figure out the problem you are trying to solve for your country.. E.g Some will say, I'll be solving a problem in the accounting sector here in Nigeria.. But the best response should be, I'll be solving the most critical problem in the accounting sector by introducing this and that which will make the sector to be this and that... Good morning house, i have had 2 delays, i re applied and i will be going for my interview soon. my father is an alumnus of my proposed school Bowie state university Maryland, he had his MBA there in 1985. However my question goes thus if asked why Bowie state university? and i respond this way- The positive impact of BSU on my fathers life influenced my decision in selecting this institution, he is an alumnus of the institution. So also Bowie state university is an interdisciplinary research based institution that equips student with both theoretical and practical skill which i believe will address the problem of lack of expertise in the Nigerian public service. Does this response make any sense ? Opinions will be highly appreciated Did you apply or check other schools while applying to Bowie? |

vikturaikay: Good morning house! Had my Visa interview this morning and was placed on AP. After tapping the keyboard for ages and telling me " just a minute" like a 100 times,The VO went thus " I will be keeping your passport but something is not coming up in my system so I will be placing you on Administrative process " asterisk "Administratover process " in the white paper and hand it to me. i will communicate to you through e mail on your status. No documents asked for both during and after the interview. So what are my chances. People around was telling congratulations. Please what should i do. Don't worry, if your admission is genuine, your Sevis fee has been paid and all the passport information that the embassy gat tallies with the information the school provided. Then you are good to go.. Congratulations bro.. Abeg Share your transcript joo.. 2 Likes |

4 years later , This thread didnt fail me. I was so busy the only thing i remember doing was paying her sevis fee. I couldn't even read her transcript or arrange personal interview for her. I told her to read and do it herself.
My sister Oyin04 just got her visa this morning.
She is coming for Masters in Biochemistry/ Biomedical sciences. She will post her transcript shortly. Nice one.. Abeg, make all the transcripts dey fall in abeg.. I just can't wait to Congratulate all Nairaland members who went for interview today..

Ayat1209: Hello fam., am trying to fill my ds 160, should I pick yes or no in the "have you made specific travel plans" section. Someone should help me out please. Hello bro, You are the best person to answer that question.. As for me, I selected NO because I haven't made plans and I only put my intended date of travel/arrival there. So, if you've booked flight and other stuffs, then you can select yes and be ready to fill in details of the arrangements you've made.. I stand to be corrected tho. 1 Like |

kusiroll: I just booked a flight for my trip Qatar to Houston do I have to book a round way trip, cos I had already booked a one way ticket cos I have F1 student visa, would that be a problem at the POE or wit Qatar as I booked through a travel agent. Thanks guys Why must you book through a travel agent? We always warn you guys to run away from travel agents, yet some always ignore the warning. Yet they will be running back to the thread after dealing with travel agents.. SMH Your question should have been directed to the travel agent that booked for you na, cos he knows better Anyways, A Yoruba adage says, "Bi omode ba pa eku, a daa je, bi o ba pa arogidigba, agbe wa ka Awon Iya e ni ile" I don't think there's nothing bad booking a one way flight, since you are going for studies.. I hope that agent of yours didn't use a bad credit card oo.. cos i no wan hear Dammy crane issue here o.. So, how much did you pay him for the one way ticket to Houston using Qatar? 1 Like |

josiahese: MuI just feel that way people.. That's how it worked for me. You could be right either.. We different.. I feel your Social Work you going for was not related to the Restaurant job you are doing.. So there for.. Your studies won't enhance your Job. So this is the trick.. Give a precise and convincing answer next time you ask. Your answer didn't convince the VO enough.. Just be yourself.. They humans too. They work with the mindset.. So be your best for those few minutes man.. Don't start a sentence with "because". Going for a second time those not matter... What the VO will be looking for is has something change about you during this times.... If you say same thing again.. It won't help.. Just say something precise and exact and be confident.. You be fine. It's December they all will be in good mood. Good Luck. I see bro. But it's a pity that you are quoting the wrong the person Your quote should have been directed to Monsurat123 .. biikeys:
The question is what exactly did you find out about the school online? If you got your information purely based on US News rankings, then Harvard,Stanford,Princeton etc should be top of your list. There is always something more...affordability,ranking,funding,curriculum etc or even a combination of those. Think about that, and come up with a clear and concise way to express it! Sure, you are very correct ma'am .. But few applicants always find it hard making research about schools they streamlined on usnews. Moreover, I actually saw 2 schools out of the 3 schools i applied to on usnews and i explained that to the VO and got my visa... 1 Like |

VO don't like it when they hear you know about a school online. Tell them something personal. You answers are not convincing at all. Research more and give them something real.. You will be approved.
So, someone cannot tell VO that he/she saw the name of schools online in peace again? What if the person z actually saying the truth nko? 4 Likes |

ahyoncolar: Hi guys! Visa got approved this Monday at Lagos Embassy.
Being my first time, I got to the street that lead to the embassy very early (around 6:30am because my appointment was for 8am). I was bombarded by some mobile business centres guys who paraded me without giving me any breathing space. Not so long after the parade, I realised that some of my documents were missing. I had no choice than to engage one of those guys. They helped me print out all the missing documents at the rate of 1,000 naira (I wanted to cry though). After this I moved to the embassy entrance immediately. On getting to the police check point, I realised that mobile phones were not allowed at the venue. I look for a police officer to drop the phone with. She charged me a bill of 1,000 to help me keep the phone. I was so frustrated as that was the last card on me. At that point, I made a prayer to God that I must not go home with my passport as this stress and spending was too much. I was sweating profusely and later join the line at the embassy. Little did I know that I am going into another queuing. Anyways, after all the paparazzi, I was sent to a VO line. On getting to the line, I started observing people that are being interviewed by the VO. The VO was just denying people of visa. I was like, who is this wicked lady. At that point I was afraid and shaking. But I said to myself, I am going home with the white paper. I was tempted to change line, I discovered that other lines too were like the same. I just calm down at my line. After a lot of people were denied, I think one was approved, it got to my turn. I said, God favour me. Then the conversation started as follow;
VO: Good morning Me: Good morning VO: Your documents please. Me: I gave her the documents (I20, Sevis Receipt and International Passport) VO: Checking the documents and typing. After few seconds, you are going to illinois for doctorate degree (she was talking to herself while typing). Me: I was looking at her. VO: What is your highest degree of qualification Me: BSc. First Class VO: Really? But you are going for PhD. Okay you will be doing the masters along. Me: I was just looking at her as she answered herself. I only nodded my head in agreement. VO: She typed a little bit. How many schools did you applied to? Me: Two schools, I named the schools VO: Why have you decided to go for UIC? Me: (Stammering) I listed three reasons as she was looking at me. VO: What did you studied for BSc.? Me: Chemical Engineering VO: She looked at the I20. Okay you will be studying Chemical Engineering too. VO: Have you traveled out before? Me: No VO: Why? (straight face) Me: Because I have not had any reason to do that until now. VO: She nodded her head VO: What was your research area Me: Kinetics and reaction engineering VO: What will you be focusing on at UIC? Me: Kinetics and reaction engineering VO: What is Kinetics and reaction engineering? (straight face with full attention on me) Me: (I was like, thank God) I answered her to the extent that she stopped me. VO: What is your role at your place of work? Me: I told her and stylishly relate it to process engineering, though they are related. VO: Do you know anybody in USA? Me: No VO: Are you willing to pay for your bills? Me: Yes. (I was like - who will say no?) VO: Your Visa is approved. She gave me a white paper and circle my visa pick up point. Every other things she said, I did not listen. I just wanted to leave the hall. On leaving the hall, the police woman saw my face, among all other faces that were coming out from the visa office, she decided that she was not going to give me my 500 naira change. She latter calculated my transport fare for me and gave me 200 naira to return to Shomolu. Who am I to complain. At least I have my visa anyways. then I left the location.
The ONLY documents checked were; 1. I20 2. Sevis receipt 3. International Passport
Remark: I tried to see if I could get a science to the process, I can only say, the only thing is God's grace and favour. I prayed and prayed. Of course, I practiced with a lot of transcripts from here as given to me by my friend. I also spoke with other students that have passed through the process.
Thanks everybody. May God bless you. Congrats bro.. The two ladies on W1 and W2 that Monday actually interviewed me and cassey(another Nairaland member) that Monday morning and we got our Visa. |

My transcript is as follows : Vo- Good morning, pass me your I -20 and passport Me- Good morning, passed what she requested for Vo- How many schools did you apply to Me - I considered 3 schools(named other 2 schools ) but applied to only Adelphi University because their curriculum for mba finance fitted properly to my future goals and ambition to become the head of investment banking in my organisation in the next four years. I noticed the curriculum of the 2 other universities was basically on finance and I needed something extra to enable me manage people well as a leader which Adelphi has. Vo-why are you taking a second language course Me-(sincerely didn't know the response to give but i said the second language course is a pathway program for all international students to get acclimatised with the system.....vo cuts in Vo- why not do an online degree rather than travelling for an mba Me- i won't get the exposure and experience i need for my leadership role by taking online courses Vo-what courses are you required to take Me-investment analysis, corporate finance, international trade...... Vo-what is investment analysis Me-the decision corporate organisations take to invest shareholders fund for maximum returns Vo-who is your sponsor Me- my husband Vo-what does he do Me- he works for xyz as a commercial and consumer manager and he runs his own business by the side aside from his day job. Vo-how much does he earn Me-about 750k monthly Vo-tell me about your admission process Me-i contacted the school's admission office, submitted my credentials , statement of purpose and other requirements after that I wrote ielts and I scored a band of 7.5. I have already made a deposit of $8,000 Vo- can I see a proof of the deposit Me- (checked all documents with me but the proof was missing in action ) VO-tell me about your study plan Me-I'm required to do a 33 unit course (mentioned about 3) Vo-handed me white paper
I return all glory, honour and adoration to God for it just by his grace alone, not how well you can blow grammar, was jittery at a point but God showed his mercies.
