I dont think this a red flag ...... Vo also align with the culture of where they are. In our culture a family member or relative sponsor regardless of martial status or age . I also know others who have been sponsored, have family and it was fine

Hello @LagosismyHome,
I sent you pm but didn't get any response. Just wanna inform you that my $500 enrollment deposit has been refunded and confirmed by @Walspring because he actually helped in making the deposit..

Thank you so much and I really appreciate..

I have been a silent follower here..My visa was approved at the Lagos consulate this morning 6:30am by a lady in window. 7.. I applied for a community college and got admitted , tho some guys here said community colleges are red flag..but all I noticed is be genuine with your ds 160 , prepare well and pray for favor

Vo: good morning
Me: smile( good morning )
V.o: pass me your passport, i20 and sivess
Me: passed it
V.o: where are you going to in the USA ?
Me : am going to Houston community college for my associate degree in applied Horticulture/ horticulture operations
Vshocked : how did you know about the school ?
Me: A lecturer from my previous institution recommended the school
V.o: where is your previous institution ?
Me: Rufus giwa polytechnic owo, Ondo state
V.o: what did you study
Me : crop and soil management
V.o: Tell me about it
Me: crop and soil management is a course that talks about how crops and soil can be managed, crop can be classified into different categories which are roots, harvesting period, leaves, economic importance. Then soils can also be classified into two, the organic and the inorganic soils
V.o: what’s your qualification
Me: ordinary national diploma
V.o: ok, why Horticulture?
Me: for the business expansion of my fathers farm by implementing the green house farming system, he deals majorly with the exporting of cocoa so we are trying to diversify.
V.o : which country does he export to
Me: Ukraine and turkey
Vshocked( was busy typing) do you have any immediate relative or distance relative in the USA ?
Me: yes ( distance relative )
V.o: uncle or Aunty
Me: uncle
V.o: what does he do ?
Vshocked: I don’t know what he does.. we are not closed.. I just know he stays in Maryland
V.o: why did you choose community college, why not university ?
Me: I want a degree am going to do for 2 years so that I can come back to my fathers farming business and implement what I have learnt, I don’t want a university degree that’s going to last me 4-5 years in the state.
V.o: is there no place you can study greenhouse in Nigeria rather than going to the USA.
Me: there are places I can here but the method that are being used here can’t be compared to the state. For example in the USA translucid glasses are used to build the green house but here transparent polythene are used and I need to learn the modern design so that I can implement it here..
Vo: have you traveled outside the country
Me: no, I don’t have any reason to travel out.. just traveling now because of my schooling
V.o: I will be approving your visa.. Bla bla..bla I no even hear anything wey she dey talk again.. just collect my i20 and walked out of the room happy and smiling.. no document was asked

Congrats brother.

As far as am concerned, I don't believe in all these red flag school stuff. If you do your homework well and really understand why you are going to the USA. Then no issue about Red flag or no red flag.

NB: USA needs us more than we do.

Yea, thought as much..

I've tried calling them, but all my calls is usually diverted to voicemail, whereby I left voicemail message once and no response as well..

I'll definitely send you PM with my student details and the school International admission team details as well now..

Glory be to God that one of my Back up schools( University of Houston) just notified me of my admission status today that I have been accepted and already planning to ship my i20 without depositing enrollment fee..

@Lagosismyhome, the school didn't reply after sending them mail that I want refund for my enrollment deposit..

I actually dunno what to do because that $500 is not a chicken change..

I really need suggestions on how to go about getting back my money since the school actually failed to enroll me for Spring 2018 that I made enrollment deposit for..

Do universities in USA always act in such manners to prospective international students?

The first step is to understand if this deposit is refundable or not. i couldnt find much about this but saw this below .. if that the case then it refundable until a certain date so find the international office or program coordinator and say you need a refund but if you do then it most likely you lose the admission

Admissions Procedure
Notification of admission is sent on a rolling basis beginning August 1. Reply is required by May 1 or within two weeks if notified thereafter. $500 tuition deposit, refund-able until May 1. $250 room deposit, refundable until May 1. Freshmen may

Thanks for replying.
I already messaged the International admission team, but no response from them..
I'll definitely message them again, requesting for refund maybe they will get back to me when they see Request for enrollment deposit refund as the subject of the mail..

Thanks

Hello Fam,
Please I really need your help and your contributions..

I applied to Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh and I was given admission to study my dream course which is Cyber Security for Fall 2017, but I couldn't make it, so I had to defer till Spring 2018 which I was provided a new admission letter reflecting Spring 2018..
Since I'm fully prepared for Spring 2018, I made my enrollment deposit which is $500 to the school excited that I'm gonna begin my studies by January. Thanks to Walspring who actually helped in making the $500 deposit fee..Much love Baba

Few days after the payment, I received a message from their immigration team that I should work with my admission counselor to defer my admission to Fall 2018 that my I-20 cannot be issued..

Although, I have another school as a back up, but I really need someone to give hint on how to go about requesting for the refund of my enrollment deposit because I was not inform that they can't process my I-20 for Spring 2018 before making the deposit..
I have tried all my best to convince the school that the I-20 process can still work, but they keep on directing me to mail their immigration team director, which I did and no feedback..
I've sent them several mails but no feedback..

The school is genuine but it now looks as if they've actually defrauded me..

Please, I really need suggestions on what to do so as to get back my money..

I was actually thinking of reporting them to EducationUSA.,

Please, what do you think I can do fam?

Thanks

Visa Transcript.

First I need to state it clearly that God + preparation is the key to F1.
I appreciate this nairaland family. Special thanks to the Boss lady Lagosismyhome - you are a blessing to this family, Imperioux & Bigfrancis - your careful and detailed advise to the upcoming is of great value, Twoods- your constructive criticism sha..but the hard truth has to be told, Walspring - Keep touching lives.

My interview was on 12th-Oct.
So I got to the embassy by 5am & met them 'staple your docs & get coloured copy of your data page' people. Thankful for the knowledge I acquired here...
I was interviewed by a white guy on window 3.

Me: "Good morning".

Vo: ignores me

Me: (hia!!!ogbeni ogini kwa) "Good morning"

Vo: Looks up & smiles "Good morning my man"

Me: "How was your night?"

Vo: "Fine fine. Yours?"

Me: *Relaxed at this point "it was fine too thanks."

Vo: "I see you are going to school, which university?"

Me: "I am going to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville for my Msc in Environmental Science. I will be specialising on Env Tech & Assessment."

Vo: "Tell me about your undergrad?"

Me: "I studied Civil Engineering @ FUTO.. I specialized on Env/Water Resources Eng. For my undergrad project, I carried out a dissertation on the Design of an integrated solid waste management system for futo community. It was at this point I became aware of the impacts of human activities on the environment so I made up my mind on a career in env remediation & protection. I also.." (vo cuts in)

Vo: "Tell me the main problem of solid waste in Nigeria?"

Me: "The major challenge with solid waste in Nigeria is improper disposal. Here, we practice open dumping and sometimes dispose of our waste in waterbodies hence polluting the environment, breeding rodents & pests, and disrupting biodiversity in the rivers & streams..."(I sha kept on blabbing)

Vo: (listening & nodding in concurrence).. "Tell me the factors you consider when designing an engineered sanitary landfill

Me: *whistles(haba!!! From where kwanu).. "Well I would consider location & topography. The landfill must be cited away from the settlement & at a place where seepage from the waste won't affect the underlying aquifer. (*Me I sha wanted to use jargon so it ll look like I know what I am saying very well).

Vo: "So why this school?"

Me: "I am inspired to study at siue because unlike my other admits, the department at siue provides and maintains long-term field sites for monitoring environmental remediation processes. These field sites would be of great benefit to me as my intended area of research focuses primarily on environmental remediation using phytoremediation technologies (*at this time the vo was shaking his head in disapproval then cuts in...)

Vo: "I can see you rehearsed for this.. ok tell me; what fiels sites are you talking about?"

Me: "Well you know that Illinois is nicknamed the Prairie state because of the abundance of grassy plains like the oak savannahs. Siue in collaboration with the us.epa gives the students and faculty access to these restored sites for research. (*He started smiling & somehow at this point I knew he was going to approve me.)

Vo: "Who is paying for this?"

Me: Told him

Vo: "What does he do?"(*begins to seperate my i-20 & sevis from my passport)

Me: Told him.

Vo: Picks white paper and says the magic words. It was really magical. People who have experienced this can confirm.

I advice you prepare well and don't cram your responses as it kinda irritates the impatient ones.

Please pray.

I hereby usher in more Spring 2018 approved visa transcripts.

Congrats and AMEN to us preparing for Spring 2018.

Well, it's good you're trying to sell yourself but my question is what can you show to say you're an intelligent undergrad?

In a simple word..... your credential?

To answer your question as short as possible, As a young graduate in Nigeria I participated in community outreach program for prevention of HIV/AIDS during my service year, spending my own money. I involved in many other community development projects as well. In U.S, I involved in biomedical research and I work with the underserved population e.g working with people with development disability and I volunteering to feed the old people.

So back to my question, what worth transferring from the "useless education system" to the U.S system?

@Imperiouxx, sometimes I feel like throwing up whenever I'm going through posts of ignorant prospective students here...

Just because you are trying to put him through, he already started responding in a rude way...

Sometimes, Nigerians feel like your are their enemy of progress when correcting them or explaining what they don't know to them..

Thanks
