Doctor and Nollywood star seek more support for women folk, as world marks In'tl Day of Girl-Child

Day of The Girl Child: Mental Health Counsellor, Brand Ambassador & Nollywood star seek more support for girl-child, women folk

Ex beauty queen & SDF Mental Health Ambassador, Lady Mina Horsfall and Mental Health Counsellor, Dr. Saadatu Adamu who is the Founder/president of Secure-d-Future International Initiative (https://sdfinitiative.org/ )have lent their voices in favour of more support for the girl-child in the society.

The duo spoke in Abuja on Wednesday, October 11,2023 as the world marked the United Nations International Day of the Girl-child.

On December 19, 2011, United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170 to declare October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child, to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. The International Day of the Girl Child focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights.

The theme of International Day of the Girl 2023 according to the UNICEF website is, "Invest in Girls' Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being." The theme focuses on taking action to curtail girls' and women's rights and gain progress on gender equality.

Dr. Adamu in her remark on the occasion sent good wishes to girls all over the world, 'you are special, you are unique, regardless of the situation, tribulations and challenges of life.' she said, just as her NGO,Secure-D-Future International Initiative (SDF) puts finishing touches to a Mental Health conference to commemorate the World Mental Health Day, which was marked on October 10.

Dr. Sa'adatu Adamu is an international mental health counsellor working with victims of human trafficking, rape, and substance and emotional abuse. She concluded by saying that girls should not allow the situation around them weigh them down, assuring them of a bright future. 'I celebrate you and I want to tell every girl out there that the future is very bright, happy celebration and my love to all the girls out there'.

On the other hand, Mina Horsfall, a Nollywood star, girls's rights activists and brand ambassador used the occasion to call for more intentional support for young girls and women. Mina, who had pursued a political career at some point, called on government to create an enabling platform for the female gender to feature in the scheme of things in all spheres of human endeavours.

Quoting the UN, she said; 'adolescent girls have the right to a safe, educated, and healthy life, not only during these critical formative years, but also as they mature into women. If effectively supported during the adolescent years, girls have the potential to change the world – both as the empowered girls of today and as tomorrow’s workers, mothers, entrepreneurs, mentors, household heads, and political leaders.'

Dr. Sa'adatu Adamu and Ambassador Mina Horsfall both sent felicitations to girl-children and women all over the world on the special celebration, urging them to pursue their dreams and be the best they can be.

AKWA IBOM ENTERTAINERS PASS VOTE OF CONFIDENCE ON GOV UDOM EMMANUEL

... ENDORSE PASTOR UMO ENO FOR GOVERNORSHIP 2023

Nelson NseAbasi

Entertainers drawn from the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State have passed a vote of confidence on the state governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, for his legacies in the industry under his two-term tenure.

The vote of confidence was passed on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at Ibom Tropicana, following a well attended road show and concert to kick start the 2nd edition of the annual weeklong Ibom Entertainment Week.

As the curtains draw on the Completion Agenda, light beams on the impact of the Mr Emmanuel led administration on different sectors of the state. The record of achievement during his tenure would not be complete without the strides in the entertainment industry.

The most notable and commendable of them all being the appointment of the first ever special assistant to Governor on Entertainment Industry, in the history of Akwa Ibom State, in person of David Sergeant (Utang Akwa Ibom).

Mr Sergeant, in company of the chairman of the planning committee, Godfada Uko, led members of Ibom Entertainers Forum, the biggest umbrella body of the entertainment sector in the state, to embark on a solidarity march from Ibom Plaza to Tropicana.

The Governor in his remark, as delivered by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Rt. Honourable Orman Esin, presented Pastor Umo Eno (the People's Democratic Party Gubernatorial candidate) to the entertainers, describing him as an entertainer, owing to his years of experiences in hospitality and tourism, which entertainment falls under.

Mr Esin said that if Governor Udom Emmanuel could do this much, entertainers can be rest assured that by this endorsement and their support, Pastor Umo Eno will do more, because he is one of them. The CEO of indigenous construction company, HENSEK Integrated, Engr Uwem Okoko announced a surprise 2 Million naira support to pad the 2 Million Naira donated by Pastor Umo Eno.

The elated Pastor Eno confessed his wish to have a tet-a-tet with talents in the state, which will give him more time to enable him be abreast of the industry. Also present were the senator representing Eket Senatorial District and Deputy Gubernatorial Candidate, Dr. Akon Eyakenyi, Engr. Wisdom Enang (the youngest fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers) the Special Assistant to Governor on Talent Hunt, Mr Emmanuel Owuala, Dr. Itoro Etim and popular Lagos based comedian and content creator, MC Mbakara.

In 2018, when over 10,000 entertainers stormed the streets of Uyo, to endorse Mr Udom Emmanuel to serve a second term as Governor of Akwa Ibom State, naysayers would have thought it to be mere praise singing, but looking back at the years gone by, it's been all smiles for a handful of entertainers who have enjoyed the patronage and benevolence of the number one citizen, one of which is the sponsorship of Ibom Entertainment Week, which galvanises the talent and creativity of players in the sector.

UNICROSS: Council Intervenes In Alumni Crisis, Agrees On Fresh Election

The over three years old crisis brewing in the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Alumni Association is finally coming to an end following the intervention of the Governing Council of the University.

The council, on Tuesday, March 1st invited both factions to a meeting at the council Chambers in the University's main campus with a view to finding lasting solutions to the issues.

The meeting which was presided over by the Council Chairman, Dr. Emil Inyang resolved that in the interest of peace, both factions should sheath their swords for a fresh election that will be acceptable to majority of the alumni.

Recall that the association has been enmeshed in crisis since the national convention that produced Comrade Eyam Abeng in 2019. Some members of the association last year who disagreed with the Abeng's emergence organized another election to set up a factional executive to challenge his executives.

The council intervention which was applauded by supporters of both camps recommended that apart from the fresh election, the draft copy of the constitution put together by the Comrade Castro Ezama led Transition/Constitution Review committee be looked into and rectified by a distinct committee.

Consequently, a six-man committee headed by Comrade John Odaji was set-up to within fourteen working days, scrutinize the draft and present a clean copy for discussion during another council interactive session slated for March 21st, after which it'll presentatied in a congress for adoption.

Other members of the committee include, Barr. Ukam Ngwu (Secretary), Mr. Samuel Odey, Mr. Ofut Ogar, Dr. Joseph Otu and Mr. Peter Otu.

The council along with representatives of the factions also resolved that after the presentation of the constitution in the congress, the constitution rectification committee will be dissolved, while an electoral committee will be set up for the conduct of a fresh election.

Although, Paul Agwu, one of the factional Presidents said he needed time to inform his supporters of the decision, he however, added that he wasn't opposed to the resolutions reached.

While aligning themselves completely with the resolutions, the Abeng team, thanked the council Chairman, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Austin Angba and other members of the council for the intervention and pledged to support every move that'll bring about a lasting peace in the association.

Politics / Chairman, Crutech Alumni Constitution Review Committee And Others Attacked In Vc by Gbeduxclusive: 9:24pm On Mar 23, 2022
CHAIRMAN, CRUTECH ALUMNI CONSTITUTION REVIEW COMMITTEE AND OTHERS ATTACKED IN VC OFFICE

Earlier yesterday, been 22nd March 2022, the constitution review committee Chairman, Odaji John Idiku; who was appointed by the National President, Comrade Paul Agwu at the last Governing Council interactive session with Alumni was attacked at the Vice Chancellor office.

You would recall that a similar meeting was called by the Governing Council Chairman earlier this month in a bid to interface with and broker lasting peace to the Association after it's last elections. During the last gathering, a 6- man committee led by Comrade Odaji John Idiku were Commissioned by the leadership to look at a document presented by Castro Ezama and further advise it.

However, hell broke loose when the second meeting slated for Tuesday became rowdy following the objection by the review committee Chairman, that only committee members who were invited stay for the meeting, and all non committee members were to excused them.

It is on record that the Governing Council meeting was been presided by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Augustine Oko Angba rather than the Governing Council Chairman. John's insistence in a bid to conclude the review process that only Committee members as invited be allowed to participate got some unscrupulous and aggressive persons who accompanied the immediate past National President, Comrade Eyam Abeng IPP to the meeting to disrupt the entire process.

Speaking with the Chairman, Odaji John said, “ I got an invitation from the office of Council notifying me and other members of the review committee to attend a council meeting to brief it on the progress report from the task we were given penultimate week. I was first shocked to notice that the meeting called by Council was now handled by the school management team. We overlooked that, hoping that cooperation will come from the handlers.

“We however asked that the letters and contents of the invitation be followed, that committee members only be admitted for the meeting as against the mammoth crowds of students and a few alumnus at venue. This and a few other remarks insisting that we stick to the agenda got the Vice Chancellor infuriated, who subsequently left the meeting".

“This ofcourse was the basis I was threatened and attacked by some misguided alumnus while within the Vice Chancellor office environment.
The said persons staged a fight with the constitution review Committee chairman Mr. Odaji right in front of the Vice Chancellor.

As God would have it, the Chairman successfully escaped from this aggressive attack with the intervention of security personnels who skillfully whisked him away from the mob who had cordon the office and school environment in wait for him.

To this effect, the meeting was called off and postponed indefinitely to when there may be need, there's calmness and normalcy and transparency in the process.

One of the committee members was not as lucky as John as his documents and phones were damaged and taken away from him.

Speaking further with some alumnus at the venue, most of them expressed worries as to the reasons and why the level of interest the Vice Chancellor have in who becomes the leaders of Association. While others also felt the position and stand of the review Committee Chairman must have been responsible for the violent reactions seen at that moment.

The Chairman assured all members to be calm, avoid responding in like manner and allow the security agencies attend to the many threats to his life by some very known persons amongst the members.

He further advised members to disregard any other reports pertaining to this meeting suggesting otherwise, as the Association remain one and determined to make productive contribution to the growth of the University of Cross River State and it's members under the leadership of Comrade Paul Adugba Agwu.

Politics / 2023: Pdp Delegates Are Not Fools by Gbeduxclusive: 8:27am On Mar 18, 2022
2023: PDP DELEGATES ARE NOT FOOLS.

While responding to questions on issues concerning his leadership, Mr. Udom Emmanuel said Akwa Ibom people are fools and illiterates. Based on this his perception of us, he has been using similar pattern in his political leadership style and approach to winning elections because he sees us as fools.

As a routine strategy, he starves citizens till almost dead, then lures them with cash at the point of his need for their services, afterwards dump them to suffer again till next election in four years time. It is a known strategy which he is coming up with in 2023, but this time around because of so much evidences of failed promises and so much discontentment about his leadership, he has a mouthwatering package to offer each delegate as bribe - a whopping 5 million naira (N500,000,000), an irresistible enticement.

He wants to blind them from seeing abandoned projects scattered everywhere and they should ignore hunger torturing families and retired primary school teachers lamentations amonsgt many other leadership negligence. The conscience of delegates is so costly this time because they are tools he intends to use to continue punishing citizens by proxy when if he succeeds to impose a stooge to hold the seat for his "indirect third term" agenda.

His penchant for treating Akwa Ibom people as fools has been elevated to another dimension ahead of the forthcoming election. Apart from the usual sudden appointments of personal and special assistants in hundreds during this period to deceive vulnerable politicians to cross over and support his succession project, then dump them immediately after victory, he has taken "financial instrument" of a whooping 150 billion naira just to bribe his way through to advance his third term plot through his preferred aspirant.

Indeed, he thinks citizens and electorates are so sheepish to be led by him to butcher our collective interest in order to advance his personal interest. He deceived us before, but it can't be all the time, not especially in 2023 governorship election when we will reject his poisonous parting gift.

Mr. Udom Emmanuel knows politicians stopped buying lands and building houses as they did under past regimes because of lack of empowerment in his tenure. Students are suffering because there is no more busary, even scholarships. Primary school teachers have never had it so bad, as such, they are on strike. Retired one are dying without their gratuity and each time their dependants stage protests to Governor's Office they are teargassed. It is terrible to imagine that upon all these, he wants people to follow his succession direction. Really, he takes us as fools.

Unemployment is so pronounced that graduates with even Masters degree are competing to sell periwinkles, water leaves and crabs on the floors at roadside markets. It not a funny experience, as traders without formal education mock them for wasting years in universities only to come to dirty market environment to be struggling open spaces with them. But with the absence of job or business grants under this administration, what should they do with the little they have? Steal or hawk their bodies?

He has deliberately allowed suffering to persist so that when the news of 5 million naira filters out, delegates will be panting to grab it in order to escape suffering. He thinks this will make them senseless and stay clue to his succession plot. He is afraid that without giving such amount to them, 99%of delegates and electorates won't bear to hear a word concerning his stooge because he has failed woefully as a governor as such whoever he chooses will be a failure like him.

Mr. Udom Emmanuel thinks even if Satan appears himself to share the amount, delegates will line up in desperation to collect it, and go to hell if it attached with such condition. He has assured his stooge of victory, that is why instead of his stooge who admits he is the least qualified telling us his capacity and antecedents in political offices held, he is saying "l wont call Akwa Ibom people dogs". Imagine him joing his media hirelings to degenerate so lowly to the level of twistiing meanings to innocent witty words commonly used.

The other day he mocked Bar. Onofiok Luke by saying he won't abandon citizens to run to Harvard Business School. He said so just because the lawmaker said if he is not favoured by election,he would proceed to the school to advance his education. Let's not be deceived, delegates know those who have the capacity to rescue the state from the leadership mishap we are presently witnessing.

The delegates are not fools as the governor thinks. They are not also happy with the state of things ongoing. Of course, they know better politicians are aspiring for them to choose from, and even if delegates have to collect the 5 million naira, it won't stop them voting the popular persons.

They have between Bar. Onofiok Luke and Sen. Bassey Albert to choose from. These are people-friendly politicians who have been tested to be entrusted with leadership burdens because they understand the solutions to Akwa Ibom people's problems.

But l believe OBA,like most delegates do, is more experienced and has advantage of higher connections at national level. Also, he has occupied more sensitive positions in executive and legislatve representation which he used to touch more lives as he is going to use acknowledged capacity to touch the entire citizens with life changing programmes.

Moreover, micro- zoning which is to ensure, fairness and equity in Uyo senatorial district favour the senator too. Delegates are aware of these advantages and will consider them when voting.

Politics / My Open And Sincere Advise To Governor Udom Emmanuel by Gbeduxclusive: 10:36am On Mar 16, 2022
MY OPEN AND SINCERE ADVISE TO GOVERNOR UDOM EMMANUEL

Even though I'm not personally in support of your choice of the next Governor, but i''m your brother from the same local Government who to that extent, loves you sincerely and wishes you all the best.
You know we have a culture in Onna that sticks every one together as “Aduk". Politics shall varnish while we still remain brothers.

You know God does not act or speak like man but only with signs and actions for those who have ears and discernment to receive God's message.
And when you fail to see the subtle signs of God that points you to the direction of His impermissibility, the consequence is often disastrous. I warn!

Your Excellency, have you noticed that your closest friends and allies have worked away from you, and off course, it is clear that they are working away from an ill gotten Governorship aspirant they would never wish to queue behind; and more will soon follow suit in their numbers?

One of them is so close that he was your best man at wedding while others are your longstanding and childhood friends of decades even before you ever dreamt of becoming Governor.

Do you not see anything wrong with the development? If you have not, I have seen a lot being wrong.

Quote me, any man who does not listen to the advise of others especially close fellows who have proven to be loyal and trusted over time, is an imminent failure already.

Don't forget that the ones who have openly left you, do so because they love you sincerely that they could never pretend before you about their difference with your own arrogated political choice; while your core enemies still stick around you and be pretending that all is well, but a very little time will reveal them because they stick like a time bomb to hit you hard when you become most vulnerable. They all have where they truly belong and where their minds are.

And may I shock you that a lot of them stay pretending to be your loyalist while sponsoring attack on you behind the scenes.

I can say on strong grounds that 80% of those who still hang around you and keep assuring you of their supports for your choice of candidate do so because your failure is already well manipulated and your ill decision seen as an arrogant in failure.

I wish you to know that you are totally on your own if you I insist on your unpopular choice of who becomes next Governor.

Your arrogated succession plan is laced and over - saturated with irredeemable injustice which lessons can only be learnt; you have ignored the rightful choice, but use all unholy and uncircumcised means to castigate, slander and mudsling whom the Lord have blessed and choose; whose singular efforts has not only stabilized the PDP party that you are erroneously enjoying, but also made your second tenure plan very successful even when he had all the opportunities to have retired you from politics and relegate you to the background.

You ignore him even when you know he is most popular, and that he has been on the arena with his face marred with dust, sweat and blood but never quitted; who knows his people and his people know him; who knows great passion for humanity even more than a pastor, and is overwhelmingly endeared to hearts of his people.

Your Excellency, kindly have a rethink over this your action and truly ask God to give you a sense of redirection, and most importantly, to give you the will power to see above pride, arrogance and fear of anticipated self defeat, and make a “U turn" on the unpopular decision and do only the right thing so that in the end, as a state and as a people, we shall in one accord take back our precious state and lead it to the promise land.

Your concern at this point should not be whether God who is for all is on your own selfish side because God can not be coerced out of His Will; but your concern should be for you to seek God and be by His side for God is always right.

A word is enough for the wise and let those who have ears ear what the spirit has said.

I remain your loving brother;
Prince Anietie Ekanem

Politics / Primaries: Akwa Ibom Youths Task PDP Chair On Neutrality by Gbeduxclusive: 5:03pm On Mar 01, 2022
YOUTHS under the aegis of Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Consituency Youth Leaders Forum, has advised Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Akwa Ibom State chapter, Mr. Aniekan Akpan to maintain high level of neutrality in the forthcoming party primaries.

The youth leaders stressed that the State party chairman should act, be seen and adjuged by his conducts as being fatherly to all shades of persons and aspirant devoid of biases of any kind.

Chairman of the Forum, Barr. Bassey Etim gave the advice yesterday in Uyo while addressing members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Akwa Ibom State Council.

Etim said it was unfortunate that governor Udom Emmanuel failed to micro-zone the governorship position to Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal consituency, being that it is the only federal consituency in Uyo senatorial district remaining to occupy the office since the creation of the State.

His words: “We the Youth Leaders of Itu/Ibiono Federal consituency state that the state Chairman of our dear party the People’s Democratic Party, must maintain a high level of neutrality in the forth-coming primaries , and should act and be seen and adjuged by his conducts as being fatherly to all shade of persons and aspirants devoid of biases of any kind.

“And the governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel should allow the people of the state, the men , women, the youths and indeed the generality of qualified voting populace of Akwa Ibomites to choose who becomes their next governor.

“This would be in sync with the governor’s principle as he particularly expressed in 2019 general elections that “no single person can choose who to lead the state and who not to lead.

“And the governor should be democratic in his approach towards supporting his preferred candidate by separating and distinguishing his official position from his personal and private capacity in influencing and or imposing a person or aspirant on the state”

The youth leaders Chairman prayed that the governor refrain from using state resources for his gubernatorial aspirant as against the corporate and cooperate interest of the state.

He therefore, warned against imposition of any guise as that could affect the outing of the party in 2023, stressing that in line with the naintain peace mantra of the current administration, peace must be predicted on the principle of Justice, equity and good conscience.

“To this end, we appeal to the consciences
appeal to the consciences of the leaders, and stakeholders of thie state, and particularly the governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel to allow opportunity for Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal consituency to produce the next governor of the state come 2023″, Etim stated.

Politics / Akan Udofia Urges Private Sector Involvement In Checking Doctors’ Brain Drain by Gbeduxclusive: 6:51pm On Nov 26, 2021
Luke Commends Udofia for Generous Donation Towards AKSUTH.

Obong Akan Udofia has challenged private investors to help redeem the deplorable state of medical environmental in the country as a way of stemming the increasing brain drain ravaging the country.

Udofia, the CEO of Desicon Engineering Group, who was the chairman at a doctors’ meet in Uyo on Friday, November 26, 2021, decried the poor remuneration of doctors as well as the inhuman conditions some of them work.

The gathering was the 2021 NEC Meeting of the National Association of Government General Medical & Dental Practitioners ( NAGGMDP) with the theme: “Stemming the Tide of Brain Drain in Nigeria: The away Forward”.

In line with the theme, Udofia urged investors within and outside Nigeria to help salvage the situation as the brain drain was leading to devastating health implications on the populace.

Consequently, he said, while doctors’ brain drain results in Nigeria’s social and health losses, it unfortunately leads to the economic gain of the receiving countries.

“We must at this stage understand that government can’t do it alone. The only way we can tackle this monster (brain drain) today is to also involve the private sector in a partnership scheme. The private sector has to be a partner in what we are talking about. We also have to look for ways and means to invest in health education, particularly in the tertiary education side. We must give the medical practitioners the verve and the pride to maintain the love and the dignity of the profession”

He also said: “A lot of us do not understand that the working conditions of some of these doctors are, to say the least, very very unhealthy and unbecoming. It is as a matter of urgency that I will implore everyone of us outside government, even as a moral duty, to contribute our little to stem the brain drain. It affects our social and economic standing. Just like the name suggests, we are losing something, and we are losing it to somewhere else, to other countries. As ours (doctors) leave, it empowers their (other countries’) GDP and degrades our own GDP.

Udofia said it was important to act beyond “sit and talk” to ensure that our “health practitioners have a conducive environment, they must be duly remunerated commensurate to their education, commensurate to the kind of work they are doing. So that we do not have any more of our highly skilled doctors going out of this country to offer their services and by so doing depleting our social-economic standing”.

Udofia’s position was adopted by the Keynote Speaker, Barr Onofiok Luke, who spared time to thank the Desicon boss for leading the way, as a private investor, in helping to salvage the deplorable health situation.

He particularly made reference to Udofia’s recent commendable donation of N100million towards the building of a Teaching Hospital at the Akwa Ibom State University.

Udofia and Luke agreed that government cannot do it alone, even as they acknowledged Gov Udom Emmanuel’s enormous impact on the health sector in Akwa Ibom State

Politics / Press Briefing By Sir Adedayo Ademilola Adesoye, The PDP Chairmanship Candidate by Gbeduxclusive: 9:43am On Jul 29, 2021
The local government elections held on the 24th of July 2021 has come and gone but the victory is unclear as PDP stands strong to say the election was won by her even though it was APC that was declared and sworn in.

The landslide victory that was announced by LASIEC was done against all election guidelines as there was a clear PDP win.

Sir Adedayo Adesoye, a candidate who contested for the position of LG Chairman in Amuwo-Odofin under the opposition Party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has released a video With an abundance of evidence showing the suppression of voter participation, misinformation, corruption, faulty equipment, lack of voting materials, thuggery, falsified ballots and much more in the polls conducted in Amuwo-Odofin on Saturday the 24th of July, 2021.

Valentine Buraimoh is being accused by Sir Adedayo Ademilola Adesoye of election violence, stealing of ballot boxes, thuggery, multiple shooting, voter intimidation, LASIEC bribery and lots more.

Mr Adedayo is demanding that he is declared the winner as he has proofs of his win or a re-run, as voters deserve to have free and fair elections and for their trust in the electoral system to be restored.
According to Mr Adedayo Adesoye, strong internal democracy, transparency, and fairness in the conduct of its affairs, which are demonstrably lacking in the APC, are additional reasons that make the PDP a solid foundation to successfully contest and win elections against other parties without tampering with the verdict of the citizens.
