If you have plenty of free time, I would suggest to give at least 1 hour on Learning things theoretically and at least 3 hours practicing what you learnt.

"Practice is the key" here!

More time you spend practicing, better you will get at web development.

By practicing, I mean writing "real" HTML pages.

Assuming you are absolute beginner (you have no idea how to write HTML/CSS), I would suggest you to first learn HTML from www.w3Schools.com, codeavengers.com, codecademy.com and then start with the examples given there along with each chapter.

Then, maybe create a web version of your resume using tables.

Next step is to learn CSS and use what you have learned to convert your resume into div based HTML. Get rid of all the tables and use HTML's and tags to achieve the exact same look. Add some spice to your resume by adding colors, backgrounds etc. Show some creativity and do some experiments.

Then, learn JavaScript and make sections in your resume collapsible. Add a contact form to your page and add JavaScript validations.

Then learn PHP and add some logic to your resume, like your age should be auto calculated, so should your experience. Add some more spice. Think of what more "calculations" you can do. What "copy-paste" of HTML you can avoid by using arrays and loops. Mail yourself the submissions of your contact form.

Just go innovative!

Then learn SQL or MySQL and record all the submissions of your contact us form into Database. Make an admin panel that allows you to Read, Edit, Delete and Search the submissions of your contact form.

Now finally it's time to convert all your code in OOPS using classes whereever you can. Also, convert all your MySQL queries to PDO.

Now convert all your JavaScript logic using jQuery!

If you feel like doing more, make your resume dynamic. Everything in your resume should come from database. Nothing should be hard-coded in the HTML.

Need more? Add pages to your admin panel which will allow you to add, edit and remove sections of your resume.

There will always be validations written in JavaScript as well as PHP (both) whenever there a form.

PS: Googling, reading tutorials, asking others etc is all part of learning.

If you do this seriously and dedicatedly enough, you have achieved the following in just 3-6 months:
Learnt HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, SQL or MySQL pretty well. Rest will come with practice, experience and time!
Created an awesome resume for yourself to showcase in interviews.
Created a mini CMS that would give your resume a big boost.
Developed the sense of solving problems when it comes to coding.
Learnt where and more importantly HOW to look for solutions when you are struck.
Developed confidence in your coding skills and yourself.
PS: You will get struck multiple times for hours, maybe days on how to do this particular task. Don't get disheartened. It's perfectly normal and a sign that your learning is paying off! Don't hesitate to ask silly questions. Believe me, no question is really silly, if look at it from the correct angle.

All the best and happy learning!

lionstone:
House where Lugard signed amalgamation of Northern Southern Nigeria needs attention

Dear Sir,
My name is Pelu Awofeso, travel journalist and publisher of waka-about .
In the light of the federal government’s plan to mark Nigeria’s centenary in 2014, we sent one of our writers on assignment to Zungeru, the historic town.
Among other landmarks, the tour brought her to the building , where Frederick Lugard supposedly signed the Amalgamation of Northern and Southern Nigeria on 1 January 1914.
We like the idea of a centenary celebration. if anything, it will help to unite our dear country even more. Already, there is a whole raft of centenary everything:centenary city, centenary slogan, centenary song, centenary logo/emblem, centenary lottery, centenary website.
But so far no mention has been made of Zungeru, Niger State, where Frederick Lugard actually signed the amalgamation into effect.

Zungeru should be the ideal CENTENARY CITY, a town that should be properly prepared ahead of the 2014 commemoration. I do hope this image will be published in your respected medium to draw attention to an unfairly neglected but significant town in our country’s history.

Foreign AffairsRe: Zulu King Changes Tone And Calls For End To SA Attacks On Foreigners by Gbengard(m): 8:08am On Apr 21, 2015
FKO1:
SOUTH African Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini condemned attacks on foreign nationals as he tried to deflect criticism that his comments last month fuelled violence that left at least seven people dead.

Immigrants must be protected, irrespective of their nationalities, Zwelithini told thousands of members of South Africa’s biggest ethnic group at a stadium in the eastern port city of Durban.

Authorities must investigate the possibility of a “third force,” which is instigating the violence under the guise of Zulus, he said.

Giving Zulus a bad name

The monarch got a lot of stick after he was cited by the Durban-based Mercury newspaper on March 23 as saying in a speech that foreigners were depriving South Africans of economic opportunities and should return home. While the king’s office said his comments were misinterpreted, Johannesburg-based ENCA has broadcast an audio recording, which it said was Zwelithini speaking in Zulu, calling on immigrants to “take their bags and go back to where they come from.”

“There are many vile things being written in the news about me and the Zulu people,” Zwelithini, who was this time dressed in a formal business suit and tie, told his supporters on Monday. “I ask you to calm down and have peace as many people have died and I ask you to avoid the trap being set.”

Attacks against immigrants that began in Durban and surrounding townships less than two weeks ago spread to Johannesburg last week. A Mozambican man’s murder in Alexandra township in Johannesburg on April 18 was captured by photographs on the front page of the Sunday Times yesterday.

In January, at least six people died during attacks and looting of shops owned by mainly Somalis, Ethiopians and Pakistanis in townships around Johannesburg.

“Whether it be in rural or urban areas I ask all to adhere to the rule of law and show that we know how to behave,” Zwelithini said. “We are a nation that loves peace. I ask for peace to reign, dear Zulu people.”

He called for representatives of foreign nationals and the government to meet with the monarch to draw up a peace accord over the next three months.

Buthelezi speaks out

Mangosuthu Buthelezi, the leader of South Africa’s Inkatha Freedom Party and a member of the Zulu royal family, also called for an end to attacks against immigrants. Buthelezi took a critical view of the attacks much earlier.

“Chasing out other nations will not solve our problems because they are our problems,” he told the crowd.

Several Zulu members in the crowd wore traditional garb, such as animal skins, and sang and danced with spears.

The anti-foreigner violence is the worst since 2008, when about 60 people were killed. The tension comes against the backdrop of a weakening economy and a 24% jobless rate.

While the government blames criminals rather than xenophobia for much of the violence, the presence of thousands of immigrants in South African townships has stoked resentment among some locals who see them as competitors for jobs and housing.

President Jacob Zuma canceled a state visit to Indonesia this week and visited a displacement camp for foreign nationals in Durban on the weekend to reassure them that the government was doing all it can to resolve the violence.

Governments from Nigeria to Zimbabwe and Malawi have condemned the violence and called on South African authorities to take decisive action to contain it.

Companies including Sasol Ltd. and Kenmare Resources Plc have repatriated South African employees working in Mozambique following threats of reprisal attacks, as concerns spiralled that South African businesses operating in sub-Saharan Africa would suffer.

EducationProtest Of Ekiti State University Students (MOCPED CHAPTER) by Gbengard(op): 3:40pm On Jan 26, 2015
The drama started when the students of Ekiti
State University in affiliation with Michael
Otedola College of Primary education staged
a peaceful protest to agitate against the
unfair treatment of d management of the
institution.
A press release by the mother institution
(Ekiti State University) on the 23rd of
January 2015 prompted this protest. In the
publication, MOCPED was accused of huge
indebtedness and non remittance of students
result to the school (eksu) senate for
approval.
This press release and the unfair treatment
of students on this campus prompted
students to demand for explanation from the
school management . Some of the things
agitated for by the students include:
1. Untimely release of examination result
2. Embezzlement of our school fees
3. Non remittance of Eksu's fund
4. Non processing of students certificate
5. Unstable academic calendar
6. Poor managerial setting
7. Poor administration of the degree
program .........
The peaceful protest was later turned sour on
the arrival of the army. On their (soldiers)
arrival, they started shooting to the air & at
the same time harassing the students with
their ammunition without hearing the
students view.
Students where tortured like criminals without
committing any crime. At a point, the soldiers
started looting nearby hostels and any
student found inside the hostel was seriously
dealt with. Many students were injured by
this soldiers without any justifiable reason.
I am yet to fathom the reason why those who
are supposed to protect our fundamental
human right are the ones infringing on our
right. How long will this continue? When will
all this maltreatment stop?
This act is totally repugnant to natural
justice and we want the government to
intervene in this issue. We can't continue this
way. Please government come to our aid. Our
destiny is at stake.
