Rebecca Bernardo, a Brazilian high school student posted a video on you tube last month. She was motivated by desperation and inspired by another Brazilian Catarina Migliorini who offered to sell hers to an Australian website got wide publicity and modelling contracts. She had tried selling cosmetics and worked as a waitress but the money was barely enough to take care of her mother who suffered from stroke. She also disclosed she made up her mind after her 18 years birthday. People in her neighborhood have been having strange look at her as shopkeepers and school children in this remote Brazilian farming town giggle and point when Rebecca Bernardo pedals by on her rusty red bicycle. She had lost only sister years ago and she never knew her father. her mother is devastated saying she should find work rather than prostituting herself. She has received three bids with the highest being $35,000 so far. Attempts by a TV station to convince her to stop the auction that they will pay her mother's medical bill failed as she also wants to start a new life.

Fashion › What your hair style speaks of you by gboyetade(op):
Did you know that the way you divide your strands can affect the way people perceive you?

It was news to us too, and so were these eye-opening tidbits from a study, which found that the direction you part your hair and the way it falls causes others to instantly assess your personality in a certain way

Part your hair on the right (showing the side of your brain that is intuitive and controls creativity) to appear gentle, caring and ultra-feminine.

To look more assertive and reliable, part it on the left (showing the side of your brain that is rational and controls analytic function).

Want to appear balanced and trustworthy? Try a center part or none at all.

Hope you will let your hear speak for you today

Health › 7 Tips For Better Sleep by gboyetade(op):
Trouble getting to bed at night? You're not alone.
According to the National Sleep Foundation, more than 13% of American adults report problems sleeping. And there isn't much that's more important to your overall health than good sleep. Luckily, for many, a good night's rest is only a few short steps away. Cure your insomnia by redesigning your room for maximum tranquility.

Choose the Right Color
The color you paint your bedroom walls and the colors you use to decorate can affect the way you feel inside your room and, ultimately, can affect your sleep. Studies have shown that subdued shades of blue and green can elicit feelings of relaxation, calmness, comfort, peace, and hope. Other lighter colors such as peach and tan may also help calm your senses before bedtime.

Get the Right Bed
When you're spending almost a third of your lifetime in your bed, it makes sense to commit the time and money needed to make sure it meets your needs. When it comes to beds, there's no one-size-fits-all. Find a store that lets you test a mattress for 30 days before buying. Test out different mattresses and pillows to select the right size and firmness for you. If you're waking up stiff or sore, try a new mattress or pillows.

Turn Down the Light
It seems obvious, but making sure your room is dark enough is essential to a night of quality sleep. Turn off or block all light sources, and make sure that you have curtains or blinds on your windows; even street lights and moonlight can wake you up if you're a light sleeper. If you need some light to fall asleep, don't just use any old lamp; get a night light or dimmer switch-controlled lamp that will emit soft, gentle light

Turn the Clock
A simple but effective adjustment to your bedroom layout – turn your clock so that it faces away from your bed. First of all, if your clock glows, the low light it emits could affect your sleep. Second, watching time slowly tick by as you lie in bed will cause mental stress that keeps you from ever falling asleep.

Get Rid of the TV And the computer.
Your bedroom should be a place of sleep and intimacy, and your electronics can affect both of those. Move your TV out into the living room. If you use your bedroom as a home office, make sure that when you put away your computer, you can put it out of sight. While you're at it, make sure there's no soft blue glow coming from your cell phone or iPod either.

De-clutter
Organize your closet and shelves so that there aren't piles of clothes and stacks of books lying around your room. Move unfinished projects out of your bedroom so they don't stress you out when you're getting ready for bed. An uncluttered room will lead to an uncluttered mind, less distraction, and easier relaxation.

Clean the Air
Breathing easier will lead to sleeping better. Open the windows regularly to air out your bedroom and get fresh air in and stale air out. Try putting an air-purifying plant or a HEPA-filter air-purifying system in your bedroom to rid the air of toxins and allergens. Finally, consider aromatherapy; mist your pillow with water infused with lavender, vanilla, sandalwood, bergamot, or chamomile to soothe your senses before bedtime.

Still Can't Sleep?
If you've redesigned your bedroom but still lie awake at all hours of the night, it may be time to take further steps. There are some small behavioral changes you can make during the day that pay huge dividends at night. And if those don't work, consider this comprehensive list of insomnia treatments. No matter what, don't accept a life without sleep; you deserve better!

"We will give priority attention in the coming year to flood and erosion control, the rehabilitation and expansion of roads," he said. GEJ also spoke on the issues of employment and security. Nigeria has suffered numerous incidents of kidnappings, armed robbers, and attacks by Boko Haram in 2012.
The Nigerian President closed by urging Nigerians to become more involved in supporting the improvement of the country.

Full Text of the President Jonathan's New Year's message

Fellow Nigerians,

1. I greet and rejoice with you all as we celebrate the advent of a new year.

2. I join you all in giving thanks to God Almighty for bringing us and our beloved nation safely through the past year to the beginning of 2013 which, by His Grace, will be a much better year for us and our country.

3. In keeping with tradition, it is usual for individuals, institutions and organizations to make resolutions and set agenda as a new year begins, to guide their actions in the coming months.

4. I have already given a clear indication of the Federal Government’s agenda for 2013 in recent pronouncements. Our objective for the year is to ensure by all possible means that more of the programmes and projects envisioned by this administration, and which are already being embarked upon are further brought on stream within the next 12 months to meet the yearnings of our people, and raise the quality of life.

5. We have in the last year achieved a lot in terms of the positive transformation of vital sectors of our national life such as public infrastructure, power supply, oil and gas, transportation, education, health and agricultural development. We will continue to work diligently in 2013 to ensure that our efforts in these areas are carried forward to full fruition in fulfillment of our promise of better public services and improved living conditions for all Nigerians.

6. We will give priority attention in the coming year to flood and erosion control, the rehabilitation and expansion of existing federal roads, improved power supply, as well as the continued rehabilitation, upgrading and reactivation of the national rail network.

7. Employment generation and wealth creation will also remain a primary objective of our sociology-economic agenda for 2013. Creating more employment opportunities for our youth and graduates of our universities is an imperative that will continue to underpin our drive for massive economic growth, the rapid expansion of our manufacturing and industrial base, and the productive diversification of our national economy. In this regard, we will continue to provide the necessary enabling environment for the private sector to thrive.

8. As peace and security remain pre-requisite conditions for the full realization of our objectives, we will also do more in 2013 to further empower our security agencies who are working in collaborative partnerships with our friends in the international community to stem the scourge of terrorism in our country and enhance the security of lives and property in all parts of Nigeria.

9. I also want to assure Nigerians that we will refuse to be discouraged by those who have taken it upon themselves to pick on every initiative and effort of this administration. We remain resolutely committed to the rule of law, due process and fair play in all circumstances. Our democracy continues to grow, and the scope for human freedom continues to expand. It is an achievement that we will continue to build upon.

10. I say it again, we are determined to continue to push forward. We will do more, not less. We will remain focused.

11.For your part, dear compatriots, I urge that you all include in your new year resolutions a commitment to do more this year to support the implementation of the Federal Government’s Agenda for National Transformation in every possible way. That is all I ask for.

12. The task of making our dear nation a much better place for present and future generations cannot be left to government alone. Leaders and followers alike have critical roles to play in our march towards the fulfillment of our great national potentials.

13. Let us all therefore resolve as we celebrate the new year to place the higher interests of national unity, peace, stability and progress above all other considerations and work harder in our particular fields of human endeavour to contribute more significantly to the attainment of our collective aspirations.

14. I wish you all a happy and rewarding 2013.

15. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR
President
Federal Republic of Nigeria

Romance › 4 Ways To Strengthen Your Marriage/relationship by gboyetade(op): 9:51am On Dec 31, 2012
[size=8pt]Make these small changes to build a closer connection with your hubby
By Alisa Bowman

1. Have a connection routine. Take a walk and chat about your day. Sharing little details makes it easier to discuss important stuff.

2. Turn annoyances into shared experiences. “I used to call my husband’s bicycle ‘the other woman,’” explains Alisa. “But taking
an interest in his hobby gave us more to talk about.”

3. Write—don’t fight. Put your feelings down on paper first. It helps you think through your anger.

4. Give praise publicly. “I update my Facebook status with nice things my husband’s done for me,” she says. “It makes us feel like a team.”

Romance › Unspoken Marriage Rules You Must Follow by gboyetade(op): 9:42am On Dec 31, 2012
Every married person knows to be faithful, stay truthful and be there for her partner through good times and bad--they're in the wedding vows, after all. But most seasoned couples would admit that some unspoken rules are vital for getting past rough patches and growing stronger as a couple. Here, experts share 10 of the less apparent (but just as important) marriage rules to live by. Photo by Getty Images.

1. Don't criticize your partner's parents or friends. You know how it is-your family can tick you off but no one else had dare speak ill of them. That's why you should tread carefully with your in-laws and your husband's dearest friends. "Even when he's venting to you, your contributions can put him on the defensive," explains LeslieBeth Wish, EdD, a Florida-based psychologist and licensed clinical social worker. "When you take position A, you prompt your partner to take position B." Instead, says Dr. Wish, put yourself in his position so that you can empathize with him.

2. Tell your spouse about any ex encounters. Whether you get a Facebook friend request or run into an old flame at your kid's soccer game, keeping the news to yourself could backfire, despite having zero feelings for the ex. "If there's nothing to hide, why hide it?" says Deb Castaldo, PhD, a couples and family therapist and professor at Rutgers University School of Social Work in New Brunswick, NJ. "That leads to an air of secrecy and dishonesty," she says. Just clue in your hubby matter-of-factly: Try, "I knew it was only a matter of time before old boyfriends came out of the woodwork on Facebook. I got a friend request from one and ignored it." Or, "I saw my ex in the mall today. His kids are cute. Glad to see his life turned out nicely."

3. Keep unsolicited advice to yourself. Offer your support, lend your ear, but avoid speaking in an "I know what's best" tone. "We give advice because we're trying to be helpful, but it's seen as criticism when we offer too many corrections," says Harriet Lerner, PhD, clinical psychologist and author of Marriage Rules: A Manual for the Married and the Coupled Up. This goes for everything from your husband's outfit choices to how he deals with a work issue. Give your spouse space to make decisions and gain confidence through trial and error-and ask that he do the same for you, says Dr. Lerner. "What matters in a relationship is not that things get done 'right,' but that two people are dedicated to contributing to each other's happiness."

4. Don't take charge all the time. Whether you fold all the laundry because you don't like how your husband does it or you manage the finances because you don't think he's as careful, you may feel more at ease doing all the work. But stop! "The spouse who does the rescuing can become tired of that role," says Dr. Wish--and resentful that everything is on her shoulders, even if she volunteered for that burden. Get in the habit of asking your partner, "What do you think works best here?" or telling him, "I could use a hand cleaning out the pantry." These requests will foster the idea that you're teammates.

5. Don't bring up past arguments. Or at least put a statute of limitations on them. "People repeat ancient disagreements because they haven't resolved the problem," says Dr. Castaldo. Letting things fester often causes marriages to break down, she says. It's important to address issues as they happen and come to some sort of resolution--agreeing to disagree counts. "Leave it there, and respect each other's opinion," she says.

6. Choose your battles, but don't stifle your feelings. "There's going to be toothpaste globs here and Post-it notes there; that's human nature," says Dr. Wish. "You have to be able to say, 'this isn't important.'" Or if it is, speak up. "Tell your partner why it bothers you and that you'd like to work on a solution," suggests Dr. Wish. You'd be surprised what you could learn about each other. For instance, your husband may not leave dirty dishes in the sink anymore if you explain that your childhood home was piled high with plates and you were stuck washing them. It's also important to understand that he's not plotting to upset you every time he's sloppy or forgetful. A simple request like: "Honey, it'd be great if you could pick up the dry cleaning while you're out" beats getting mad that he didn't offer to help with errands.
7. Don't post private thoughts or photos publicly. You may not want to be tagged in a politically charged rant he starts or he may not want you to share photos of the kids. And you each deserve the other person's respect for those wishes. "Discuss the ground rules regarding posting about yourself, as a couple and about the other person," says Dr. Castaldo. And no matter what, don't take your grievances with your husband to the masses for support. "It's destructive to air conflicts on Facebook," she warns.

8. Log off. When your attention is focused elsewhere, your spouse is bound to feel unimportant. So make quality time a top priority and restrict tech gadget use if necessary, says Dr. Wish. "Pay attention to the concept of ratio: How much time am I spending doing this compared to how much time I'm spending with my family?" she says. Create a rule that works for your household and stick to it, whether it's no devices at the dinner table, shutting down phones at 8 p.m. or going gadget-free on weekend afternoons.

9. Don't use the "grin" word (divorce, that is). Even in the heat of an argument, avoid threatening to pack your bags or head to the lawyer's office. Besides the "grin" word being downright hurtful, repeated warnings may result in a spouse calling the other's bluff. "We act as if the intensity of our anger gives us license to say or do anything," says Dr. Lerner. "But threatening divorce is never useful, and it only makes the probability of separation more likely."

10. Be each other's number one. In other words, be wary of outsider influence, like a friend putting relationship-threatening ideas in your head or work or hobbies competing for your attention. "Happy couples have just as much conflict as those who divorce, but they know ways to get through it," says Dr. Castaldo. "A couple has to have a strong boundary around themselves and they can't allow anybody to get in between."
