Christianity EtcRe: Cardinal Jorge Mario-Bergoglio Is The New Pope by gboyetade: 8:23pm On Mar 13, 2013
The Catholic church has a new pope.

Argentine cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio will be known as Francis. He is the first pope to be known by that name, and the first from the Americas.

At 7:07 p.m., local time, white smoke billowed from the Sistine Chapel, signalling that a new pope had been elected after only two days of voting and five ballots. It came as a surprise, because there was no frontrunner going into the conclave and Vatican watchers had expected another day of voting after two inconclusive votes this morning.

CrimeJAMBS Kills Hostages •briton, Greek, Italian, Filipin, 3 Leb. Dead To Stop Rescu by gboyetade(op): 9:52am On Mar 10, 2013
A splinter group from the Boko Haram Islam sect, Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina fi Biladis Sudan, otherwise known as JAMBS, on Saturday announced the murder of seven foreign expatriates that were abducted in Bauchi State, on February 16, 2013.

The leader of JAMBS, Abu Usamatal Ansary, stated in a message posted in a Islamic website that the decision to execute the expatriates followed reported attempts by British and Nigerian Forces to storm the area where the hostages were being kept and release them, contrary to earlier warnings issued by the sect.

The expartriates who were kidnapped from a Lebanese Construction Firm, Setraco, at Jama’are, in Bauchi , were three Lebanese, and a citizen each from Britain, Greece, Italy and the Philippines.

Ansary stated specifically that the group executed the expatriates because President Goodluck Jonathan contravened the sect’s warning by issuing a directive to security agents to rescue the abducted expatriates.

He stated also that the hostages were killed because five jet bombers belonging to the British Government, soldiers and intelligent agents were sighted in Bauchi by journalists thereby giving the indication of an operation to free the hostages by force.

The group’s leader further alleged in the statement that security operatives arrested several people including women some of whom were killed.

“As it may be recalled that JAMBS announced the capture of seven Christian foreigners and warned that should there be any attempt to rescue them by force, will render their lives in danger.

“The Nigerian Government has announced to do so by any means, they ignored our warnings as the President commands security agents.

“More so, the British Government sent five jet bombers, soldiers and intelligent… parading in Bauchi in order to rescue them.

“They also arrested many people including women and killed some of them.

“By this progress, the Nigerian and British Government operations led to the death of the seven Christian foreigners. Because a soul of a single believer (Mu’umin) is more than the lives of thousands of believers,” the statement read.

JAMBS, which broke out of the Boko Haram in January, also included supposed photographs of the executed victims and a picture of a man dressed in what looked like a military camouflage and was wielding a riffle on the Internet.

When our correspondent contacted the Director Defence Information, Col. Mohammed Yerima, he couldn’t confirm the killing of the hostages.

He said he was in Port Harcourt and that the network was bad. “In Port Harcourt, network is bad. Can’t confirm,” Yerima said.

The spokesman of the JTF in the North East, Col. Sagir Musa, neither picked the repeated calls placed to his mobile telephone line nor responded to text messages sent to him on the issue.

Meanwhile, human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, who spoke to one of our correspondents on the telephone, condemned the killings.

Advising the Federal Government to dwell more on intelligence to check insecurity, he described the proposed death penalty by the National Assembly as a mockery of the fight against terrorism.

Falana said, “Boko Haram menace has long attained international dimension, having been linked to al-Qaeda and the militants in Mali. Government has a lot to do beyond military onslaught, it has to address socio-economic crisis in the country, which lures youths into criminality.

“The National Assembly will have to stop making a mockery of the war against terrorism by proposing death penalty for terrorists. These people are ready to die; they are ready to kill themselves. Death sentence for them is barbaric and contradictory.”

AutosThrones, Gold Seat Buckles And A Concert Hall: Inside Opulent Private planes by gboyetade(op): 9:00pm On Feb 24, 2013
For most people, flying is a boring and uncomfortable experience. But in the customized private jets that belong to the ultrarich the possibilities are endless, and it's astounding to look at.

These incredible aircraft include cinemas, marble baths, aquariums, Rolls Royce garages, glass floors, concert halls, wellbeing rooms, thrones, chef's kitchens and gold seat buckles.

Each unique jet can be personally designed down to the tiniest luxurious detail for work or play.
Photographer Nick Gleis specializes in picturing such planes. But many of the owners wish to remain anonymous, so around 90 percent of Gleis’s work is never seen by the public.

Well-known names who feature in the photos below include Jackie Chan, Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal and Donald Trump.

Chan's plush jet has his name and intertwining dragons emblazoned on the side. Al-Waleed's has several planes and his 'flying palace' includes a concert hall complete with a grand piano. And Donald Trump's chosen transport has 18 IMAX-level speakers in the cinema room.

Unknown gunmen stormed Kogwom village in Vom district of Jos south local government area, Plateau State, killing 10 individuals and leaving two others fatally injured.

The gunmen attacked a family compound where 10 members of the family were killed in cold blood while two others sustained gunshot wounds after which the attackers routed their escape through surrounding environs.

Two members of the family were fortunate to be alive and are receiving treatment at the Vom Christian hospital.

Meanwhile, angry youths continue to protest the incessant killings in the area.

Reports from the community indicates that the family lost a grandmother few days ago and gathered for the preparation of her funeral which informed the large presence of the members in the compound as the assailants attacked in the night after a family meeting.

Reacting to the attack, Special Adviser to governor Jonah Jang on media and Publicity Ayuba Pam who was at the scene described the incident as barbaric and inhuman stressing that government will not rest in the search for lasting peace in the state.

CelebritiesRich People Who Feared Giving Their Children Money by gboyetade(op):
Everyone's always jealous of the kid with the rich parents, but being born rich isn't always a ticket to wealth. After all, not all rich people want to leave piles of money to their children.

And why not? They fear large sums of money will spoil their offspring and ruin their work ethic. They may have a point.

After all, Kim Kardashian and In-N-Out Burger owner Lynsi Torres, both of whom had rich parents growing up, don't sport college degrees. But they sure are successful. Really, really successful.

So who is the exception and what is the rule?

Bill Gates
Microsoft founder Bill Gates, the world's second-richest man, told The Sun in 2010 that he will donate most of his money to charity and "give the kids some money but not a meaningful percentage." He said on Reddit in February: "I definitely think leaving kids massive amounts of money is not a favor to them."

Warren Buffett
Billionaire investor Warren Buffett plans to donate most of his fortune to charity. Peter Buffett, Buffett's second-oldest son, told DailyFinance in 2011 that his father "transferred values to me, and not wealth."

Ted Turner
CNN founder Ted Turner, who has donated $1 billion to the United Nations, doesn't have much money left for his kids. He told MSNBC in 2010 that he is "almost to the edge of poverty" -- that is, his net worth is only $2 billion, according to Forbes.

Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs, the late Apple CEO who revitalized the company, said in an interview with Playboy in 1985: "If you die, you certainly don’t want to leave a large amount to your children. It will just ruin their lives."

George Lucas
George Lucas, the writer-director behind the Star Wars series, doesn't plan to leave much money for his kids; he is giving most of it to charity. He wrote in a pledge letter that he is "dedicating the majority of [his] wealth to improving education" because "it is the key to the survival of the human race," according to The Wall Street Journal.

Graham Tuckwell
Graham Tuckwell, the founder and chairman of ETF Securities, who has donated $50 million to Australian National University for scholarships, told the Sydney Daily Telegraph he does not plan to give much money to his kids because "lots of money is poisonous to have." "If you just give them stuff, it almost destroys their desire to do things and you actually end up with kids who are a lot worse off." (Hat tip: CNBC.)

Steven Hayworth
Steven Hayworth, ex-CEO of Gibraltar Private Bank, told the New York Times in 2010 that he was glad his daughter was going to work at a clothing store that summer because he wanted her to learn "the value of a dollar."

Health6 Serious Sexual Health Symptoms For Women What's Normal And What May Need A Doc by gboyetade(op): 8:15pm On Feb 20, 2013
For most women, a couple of irregular menstrual cycles or an occasional yeast infection are just a part of life -- nothing that time or simple treatment won’t cure.

But some gynecological symptoms are mystifying, such as vaginal bleeding that always follows sex or unusual bumps or sores.

When should you call your doctor?

Much of the time, pelvic pain, spotting, itching, and other symptoms don’t turn out to be serious, according to Holly Puritz, MD, FACOG, an obstetrician and gynecologist at The Group for Women in Norfolk, Va.

Even a normal process, such as ovulation, can cause pain. “There’s something you can have mid-cycle, which is called ‘mittelschmerz.’ It’s German for ‘mid-cycle pain,’ ” Puritz says. When ovulation occurs, some women feel a sharp or cramping pain on one side of the lower abdomen. The pain may switch sides from month to month.

“Pelvic pain, if you can pinpoint the timing of it, can actually reassure you,” Puritz says. “If it always happens mid-cycle, lasts two to three days, and goes away, it’s generally not anything abnormal.”

Likewise, abnormal vaginal discharge may signal a sexually transmitted disease, but often, it stems from infections that are easily treated.

Nevertheless, some symptoms can point to serious medical problems. No need to panic, but it’s smart to know when to get help.
1. Pelvic Pain

Mittelschmerz goes away after ovulation, but if you have pelvic pain that persists or doesn’t ease with simple home treatment, call your doctor, Puritz says.

When a woman has chronic pelvic pain, doctors will check for benign uterine fibroids and endometriosis. They will also look for pelvic inflammatory disease, which usually appears as a triad of pelvic pain, vaginal discharge, and fever, Puritz says.

In some cases, strong pelvic or abdominal pain comes on quickly -- a sign to call your doctor. A ruptured or bleeding ovarian cyst can trigger this type of pain.

“Usually, we’ll treat those patients with some type of analgesic or pain medication and usually, it subsides on its own,” says gynecologist Jessica Shepherd, MD, of the University of Louisville’s department of obstetrics, gynecology, and women’s health.

If a more severe attack of pelvic pain starts suddenly, the ovary may have twisted, cutting off its blood supply. Some women also feel nauseated or vomit.

In addition, abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding may signal an ectopic pregnancy, in which a fertilized egg implants outside of the uterus.

In either situation, get to an emergency room if you can’t reach your doctor.

Fortunately, most pelvic discomfort isn’t related to ovarian cancer, but women should know the disease’s unremitting “constellation of symptoms,” Puritz says. “If you have two weeks of bloating, pelvic pressure, and urinary frequency -- and every day, you have it -- that’s a potential sign that you should be checked for possible symptoms of ovarian cancer.”

2. Irregular Bleeding

Though birth control pills can cause spotting that isn’t serious, you may still want to discuss your prescription with your doctor.

“But if you’re not on any kind of birth control and you have irregular bleeding that lasts for more than a month or two, I think it should always be checked, even though the odds are, we won’t find anything bad,” Puritz says.

Irregular bleeding “covers a host of things,” she says: periods that last longer than normal, bleeding mid-month, having two periods per month, bleeding after sex, and other unusual patterns.

Abnormal bleeding may stem from multiple causes that aren’t serious, among them, perimenopause or uterine fibroids or polyps.

Thyroid problems can affect the menstrual cycle, too, Puritz says.

In nursing mothers and postmenopausal women, vaginal dryness, combined with friction, can cause spotting after intercourse.

But if you bleed every time after sex, “that’s a worrisome sign that the cervix is being easily irritated and usually, it often does that if there’s some infection of the cervix," Puritz says. "It wouldn’t normally do that in a healthy cervix.” Sexually transmitted diseases, such as gonorrhea or chlamydia, can cause cervical lesions that bleed with sex.

If you’re postmenopausal, be especially vigilant about any vaginal bleeding; it’s a potential sign of uterine cancer. “You should be seen right away,” Puritz says. “Uterine cancer, compared to ovarian cancer, is extremely treatable. It’s very curable because it’s generally found in an early stage and it has an early warning sign, which is postmenopausal bleeding.”

Besides postmenopausal bleeding, any vaginal bleeding before puberty or during pregnancy should be checked out, too, Shepherd says.

3. Abnormal Vaginal Discharge
With vaginal discharge, “abnormal is what the woman decides is abnormal,” Puritz says. “Women know their bodies pretty well.”

Abnormal symptoms include a strong odor; an unusually large amount of discharge; accompanying itching, burning, or irritation; unusual color; or blood in the discharge.

Most causes of abnormal discharge are minor, Puritz says. “Any sort of infection can cause a discharge.” Common ones include yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis, or trichomonas, she says. “They’re all easily treated.”

Because sexually transmitted diseases can also cause abnormal discharge, check in with your doctor to rule out the possibility.

Also be sure to tell your doctor about any persistent, watery discharge, a classic symptom of fallopian tube cancer, which is rare.

4. Itching[/b]

Women may have itching without discharge, a problem that Puritz sees frequently when patients use perfumed soaps or personal care products -- especially perfumed lubricant jellies. “All perfume lotions and potions wreak havoc,” she says. “Especially if you have sensitive skin, that can cause a lot of itching and irritation.
Although genital itching isn’t likely to be serious, it’s still a good idea to tell your doctor if it’s bothersome. The fix might be simple.

However, “if it’s itching and there are skin changes, that would be a worrisome sign,” Puritz says.

For example, a skin condition called lichen sclerosus can cause itching and small, white spots on the vulva. The spots grow into bigger patches that turn thin and crinkled. Lichen sclerosus is an uncommon problem that tends to affect older women, Puritz says.

“It’s something that needs to be medically treated,” she says. Left untreated, the patches can scar and create problems with urination or sex. There’s also a tiny chance that skin cancer may develop in the patches.

Aside from lichen sclerosus, any itchy lesion on the vulva or vagina may need to be biopsied to rule out cancer.

5. Vaginal Dryness

Vaginal dryness in nursing mothers or postmenopausal women can cause spotting after intercourse. Once nursing moms start ovulating again, dryness will ease.

But “vaginal atrophy is really important, especially for postmenopausal women,” Shepherd says. Because older women have less estrogen, their vaginal tissue thins or atrophies and becomes dry and irritated.

Not only does vaginal dryness make sex painful, but vaginal thinning also leaves women more susceptible to infections.

Women shouldn’t be embarrassed to mention vaginal dryness to their doctors, Shepherd says. Women may find relief with estrogen creams, rings, or tablets that are applied or inserted directly into the vagina.

6. Sores or Lumps

Some women develop sebaceous cysts and skin tags in the groin area, or a pregnant woman may get varicose veins that feel like a lump on the vulva when she stands. “All would be very benign things,” Puritz says.

But some lumps or sores can be serious, so it’s prudent to have your doctor examine them.

Sores in the genital area may point to herpes or cancer, Puritz says. Symptoms of cancer of the vulva include unusual lumps, wart-like bumps, or red, flat sores that don’t heal. Sometimes, the flat sores turn scaly or discolored.

Also, melanoma, a form of skin cancer, can occur on the vulva, Puritz says. Symptoms include bluish-black or brown, raised moles in the genital area, including the opening to the vagina. Patients are often surprised by the disease, she says. “They think that if there’s no sun exposure, you can’t get a melanoma.”

CultureThe King Who Ruled Longer Than Any Other by gboyetade(op): 6:10pm On Feb 17, 2013
Over time, the world has heard of history of kings and queens. But as there are ordinary rulers, there are also extraordinary ones. Today, we will take a look at the king who ruled far longer than any other king in the world. NGWENYAMA SOBHUZA II was the Paramount Ruler and the King of Swaziland for a mind-blowing 82 years and 9 months!!!

He succeeded the throne on December 10, 1899 when he was just a few months old However, Sobhuza II's grandmother, Labotsibeni Mdluli acted as the Regent until 1921.

It was under Sobhuza II that Swaziland gained independence from Britain and the current king, Mswati III is often referred to as Africa's last absolute monarch. Swaziland is in southern Africa and the capital is Mbabane.

Well, there is another aspect of this great king that Iyaniwura will not forget to point out: he was prolific and polygamous, as is the tradition in Swaziland, where the king picks a new virgin wife every year in the annual Reed Dance. King Sobhuza II married 70 wives and had 210 children. That will give us about three kids per wife. Well, around 30 of the kids died during infancy while there are 97 sons and daughters still alive today. As at the time he died in 1982, he had more than 1,000 grandchildren! Ogalagaju! Opa eyin buruku nbe ni Swaziland o!

CelebritiesI Will Fight Lagos Opposition With My Last Drop Of Blood - Oba Akiolu by gboyetade(op): 5:49pm On Feb 17, 2013
Lagos monarch, Oba Rilwan Babatunde Akiolu has sent a note of warning to desperate politicians that might be thinking of taking over the state by illegitimate means, asserting that no one could capture Lagos. Oba Akiolu, who also goes by the designation, Olowo Eko (Owner of Lagos), recalled that certain politicians had once boasted that they would take over Lagos by force, noting that such people were vehemently resisted and eventually humiliated.

He said he was forced out of the Nigerian Police Force as an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in 2002 after 32 years in service even as he was denied promotion by the federal authorities at that time. We were forced out through intrigues.

They believed I was the father of the then Alliance for Democracy (AD) and the then Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu. They forgot that Bola Tinubu is my relation and, as they say, blood is thicker than water. But for God and the prayers of well-meaning people in this country, where we are in Lagos today, we wouldn't have got there. But for God and for people like Bola Tinubu, we wouldn't have got to where we are in Lagos. And I say this anywhere.

Insisting that no one would be allowed to take over Lagos by force, the monarch stated will never compromise Lagos for anybody. It will never happen. God Almighty Allah and my ancestors will never allow it to happen. And no matter what anybody is planning in future, only a lawful, democratically elected governor will rule Lagos.

Nobody, even if it will cost us the last drop of our blood, I repeat it, nobody can take Lagos away illegally from Lagosians and I mean it. Ninety per cent of all the well-to-do people in this country made their money from Lagos. When they came, they were laborers staying under Carter Bridge. But in just 10, 20 years, you see them putting up high-rise buildings. And Lagos people don't discriminate against anybody. But for anybody to say ˜I will capture Lagos, I will take Lagos, God forbid that. Only a democratically-elected governor, a governor elected by popular votes, will always rule Lagos. I don't take sides with anybody. But I'm for the well being of Lagos and its people.

The monarch said his traducers in the police also accused him of being an ambitious prince who was interested in becoming the Oba of Lagos. But it is only a bastard-prince that would not aspire to sit on the throne of his fore-fathers. Anybody that is not ambitious in life is as good as dead, he said. The royal father said he would spend his tenth coronation anniversary in the Holy Land of Mecca to offer thanks to God.

In 1988, I was in Mecca with the former Inspector-General of Police, Tafa Balogun. Then, everybody was praying to Almighty Allah, asking for what they wanted. What I, then Prince Akiolu, said at that time was that, God, I'm inside the Kaaba now.

Please inherit the throne of my forefathers for me. And God heard it. I don know what police retirement had to do with a prince wanting to be Oba of Lagos. But you see how God works? I left the service in March, 2002. A year and two months later, I was crowned the Oba of Lagos. So I am going to Mecca to thank Almighty Allah.

PoliticsJonathan In London Clinic For Intestinal Problems - SaharaReporters by gboyetade(op):
An intestinal problem has forced President Jonathan to cancel a planned surprise visit to the Super Eagles in South Africa, medical sources in London said today.

The Nigeria president, who is on a whirlwind three-nation trip to Egypt, the United Kingdom and France, had planned to surprise the Super Eagles in South Africa following their qualification for the final of the African Cup of Nations last Wednesday.

However, in London Mr. Jonathan came down with an intestinal disorder referred to as Amoebic Colitis and he underwent testing at the London Clinic on Harley Street. The clinic is highly favoured by Nigeria’s rich and powerful.

A medical source told Saharareporters that Mr. Jonathan's situation is not worrisome but that the persistent nature of the condition meant the president had to undergo some screenings. It was not clear why he did not undertake the screenings in Abuja, where State House has an excellent clinic manned by a largely idle staff.

Meanwhile, former Nigerian dictator Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida was also sighted at the InterContinental Hotel in London limping on one leg. Mr. Babangida was helped into a vehicle by two aides on his way to a hospital in the city.

It was not clear if President Jonathan previously knew of Babangida's stay at the same hotel but the two met briefly as Babangida struggled to get to his car.

Mr. Jonathan is expected to arrive in France on Monday, according to his itinerary, but it is unclear if his health issue will force a change. Mr. Jonathan’s wife, Patience, last month returned to hospital in Germany following new health concerns.

The president has detailed the Senate President, David Mark, to cheer on the Super Eagles to victory in their final match against Burkina Faso tomorrow.

A presidency source said the President plans a massive reception for the Super Eagles in Abuja on Tuesday night.

Following decades of irresponsible management of the Nigerian economy, including failure to develop the health sector, Nigeria’s leaders and their families routinely hurry off to the developed world to squander valuable foreign exchange even on minor health procedures.

Two years ago, Babangida’s wife died in a hospital in California. Prior to that, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s wife died in a hospital in Spain.
