Politics / Nigerian Politicians at home vs abroad by geek4k(m): 11:59am On Jun 06, 2018
I have been wondering, why does our politicians when outside Nigeria they utilize public transports i.e busses or trains alone, but when in Nigeria travel with convoys.

Since the international community already know how well a typical Nigerian politicians is. What is then the ideology behind the act?!

Travel / Geologists Have Proof That Africa Is Splitting Into Two Separate Physical Parts by geek4k(m): 3:11pm On Apr 07, 2018
Geologists have new evidence that Africa is splitting into two separate continents.
They are pointing to a large crack, stretching several kilometres which surprisingly showed up in the South-West of Kenya, not long ago.

The crack, which continues to grow, has already become a wide tear in the earth and has been followed by small earthquakes and tremors in the area.

It has caused part of the Nairobi-Narok Highway to collapse and caused some problem in farms and residential areas.

The East African Rift Valley, where the split is slowly occurring, stretches over 3,000 kilometres from the Gulf of Aden, through Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, Tanzania, Malawi and Mozambique, towards Zimbabwe in the south of Africa.

The rift splits Africa into two unequal parts; known as the Somali and Nubian plates.

Plates of What?
Although the earth seems like one massive static piece, the upper part is made up of tectonic plates like the Somali and Nubian plates.

While they do not move like say, a body of water, the plates are not static, but instead, move in relation to each other at varying speeds.

Think of it as half of a pancake gliding over a large bowl of glue.

As it stands, the two halves of the pancake that is Africa are slowly moving away from each other.

No-one can say for sure why this is happening, but some of the likely reasons mentioned already include convection currents within the asthenosphere and the forces generated at the boundaries between plates.

While this may seem strange, it is simply geology taking its natural course.

Millions of years ago, most of the earth’s land was made up of one large super-continent called Pangaea. Over millions of years, chunks split off to form smaller continents and then they split even further to form the continents we have today.

Millions of years ago, most of the earth’s land was made up of one large super-continent called Pangaea. Over millions of years, chunks split off to form smaller continents and then they split even further to form the continents we have today.

Rifts of the kind we have in the Greater Rift Valley are usually the initial stage of a continental break-up, if successful, they can lead to the formation of a new ocean basin.

The most recent example of this is the South Atlantic Ocean which was created by the break up of South America and Africa around 138 million years ago.

So when does the split happen?
For all we know, by the time Africa’s split is complete, none of us will exist either as fossils or anything else.

The sequence of rifts that led to the split in South-Western Kenya started in the Afar region of Northern Ethiopia around 30 million years ago and has been moving at a rate of 2.5 to 5 cm a year.

That’s pretty slow when you think about it.

The rift may take tens of millions of years to completely open up. When it does, a new ocean will form in the space created by the broken-up plates. Eventually, over tens of millions of years more, the sea will spread across the entire length of the opening.

The ocean will flood in, effectively splitting Africa into a smaller continent and creating a large Island in the Indian Ocean made up of parts of Somalia and Ethiopia and other countries around the Horn of Africa.

Most observers will be given to believing the split is somewhat urgent, considering how it will affect daily life in some areas but for the most part, it’s really not much to be worried about.

Foreign Affairs / Twitter: Nigerian President, Other World Leader Wont Be Ban Over Rule Violation by geek4k(m): 1:59am On Jan 13, 2018
Ostensibly, you can’t just make any post on Twitter that could violate their policies and get away with it as you could either get your account blocked or removed from the platform, well of course unless you are a world leader.

The big gallant Twitter is an online news and social networking service where users post and interact with messages, called “tweets.”

The US President Donald Trump who has severally violated the Twitter policies and got slash back from users protesting for his account to be banned by the platform, responding to it, Twitter said the platform is there to serve and help advance the global, public conversation.

Twitter also stated.

Elected world leaders play a critical role in that conversation because of their outsized impact on our society. blocking a world leader from Twitter or removing their controversial Tweets, would hide important information people should be able to see and debate. It would also not silence that leader, but it would certainly hamper necessary discussion around their words and actions.

Also speaking,

We review Tweets by leaders within the political context that defines them, and enforce our rules accordingly. No one person’s account drives Twitter’s growth, or influences these decisions. We work hard to remain unbiased with the public interest in mind.
We are working to make Twitter the best place to see and freely discuss everything that matters. We believe that’s the best way to help our society make progress.

Career / How To Improve Your Technical Skills This 2018 Using These 5 Simple Steps by geek4k(m): 2:57am On Jan 11, 2018
Except you are a Luddite, I see no reason why you shouldn’t acquire a technical skill this year. We all know how technology has deeply improved many aspects of humanhood especially in areas of telecommunication, industrialization, healthcare services, educational system, economy just to name a few, technically speaking we can’t imagine our world and the way we live in it without technology as it has become an ubiquitous and highly beneficial to man.

Technology is evolutionary it has taken over things around us and has come to stay, looking back at the 1980s you notice a vast change in the world and the way we operate, just to give a glimpse of some the most obvious, we can now travel around the world, reach out to our loved ones irrespective of their distance and location, give commands to computer to perform various task, can you really imagine our lives without these abilities?

New technology innovation are been introduced everyday and the old ones are been advanced to serve better and more conveniently. One unique attribute about technology advancement is it can only get better and more intelligent, technology can never be degraded there’s no possible scenario where we return to an older technology, this is one good reason why we need to shape ourselves into been a tech savvy to enable us fit into demands and to also make one well rounded in life and career.

With these effects of technology on human existence today, it’s ideal for our personal life and career to acquire technical skill as it helps future-proof one’s career.

See the easiest ways to acquire technical skills in the below list.

5 EASY WAYS TO ENHANCE TECHNICAL SKILLS THIS YEAR 2018

1. Read Tutorials

Don’t waste that little time you have on social media, Yeh! I know getting in touch with loved ones is cool, but at some point you need to set priority if you really need something important and this is termed SACRIFICE. Research has proven that reading tutorials (online or offline) is one of the best ways to boost ones knowledge on tech. Although, getting feed online and offline also have their respective pros and cons e.g reading online is free but are not always professionally edited and could be misleading or difficult to understand while reading offline (from a book, magazine etc) are always professionally written with clear language but they aren’t always free. So you see, what can i say? Use any option that best rock your boat!

Additionally, learn how to use Google and other search engines to your advantage, it’s important to know how to correctly pose a question for search and how to use search engines to find good and well-detailed information from search results.

2. Surround Yourself With Tech Professionals

Spend good time with people who are technically more advanced than you are, at lease everyone is a learner at some point, in doing so their knowledge will rub off on you. Even geeks learn from other geeks, but if you aren’t much of a geek yourself. Alternatively, a great way to accelerate the development of your technical skills is to join an online forum of a chosen field.

Once you join a computer forum or other geek-ridden association, volunteering is a great way to make fast friends. These nonprofit associations are frequently in need of volunteers for committee and project work; even if your technical skills are weak, they often just need raw manpower. Once you start interacting with tech professionals you will earn much knowledge about the real-time cases problems faced in the industry.

3. Learn Programming Skill

Programming is basically about writing codes and commands to instruct computer to perform specific tasks. The key to accomplishing this is learning to think like a computer. Programming is one of the most mentally challenging tasks a human being can perform, but nothing compares to the satisfaction of engineering a piece of code to solve a specific problem. Ask any programmer.

While humans certainly aren’t as precise or predictable as machines — we have major compatibility issues, sometimes even with ourselves — a programmer’s mindset can generate effective solutions to very human problems. Intuition is a big factor in both personal development and programming, but I like that there’s a structured fallback process that works in both fields. It’s much harder to use this process in personal development though because we know how a computer thinks, but we’re still figuring out how humans think.

4. Embrace Different Variety of Computer Softwares

Generally, software engagement improves breadth of experience, so use many different software programs (online or offline) to improve your overall ability to get things done through software, don’t be too restricted in just getting a task done on a software and all, try also to see and learn to use other advance option and using many different interfaces, think of it as technical intuition.

You’ll learn a lot about interface design from image editing programs, programming tools, and of course computer games. The greater the variety of interfaces you experience, the faster you’ll be able to learn and master each new program you use.

5. Practice What You’ve Learnt

Focusing only on ‘Read and Learn’ isn’t ideal for your tech skill, remember we called it tech skill, right? and this is not like a school where you’re only require to write down what you just read during test, this is far more than that it’s just like sending a trained soldier to his duty post or a warfront, it is his duty and purpose isn’t it? Getting to learn technical skills uses this same principle which is putting your knowledge into proper use or solving problems in a real life situation.

By practicing this, it adds its promised value to you, both personally and professionally.
