danyegbule:

It's ISA Brown from Merks Farm.
I have waited for an answer on the weight of the puller which has not come till now. This suggests this farmer does not monitor the birds development. This is the only yardstick that could be used for such. Without proper management and monitoring against expected standard you can not get your birds to lay at the appropriate time this does not also translate to possibility of bigger eggs later in their life. my suggestion for you is that you need to learn the right way of raising DOC to POL.

Agriculture / Re: How Do I Get Rid Of Algae by geepoul: 9:01am On Aug 12, 2015
Use bleach ... common bleach in water it works like magic

CarewAye:

@obstead200: If you can get Oxygen Bleach (Sodium percarbonate: an adduct of sodium carbonate and hydrogen peroxide). It is non-toxic and eco-friendly cleaning products compared to chlorine bleach which is highly toxic to plant, human, animals.

Simply dissolve the powder (either of the bleach) in warm water (ratio of mixture is up to you though effect will be noticed based on cleaning performance and you can adjust mixture ratio accordingly for next use, till you become DIY Pro).

Pour into a simple hand-pump sprayer. You can get an empty plastic bottles, make several tiny holes on the cover, fill up your solution and it's ready to be squirted on the algae-coated surfaces. Allow to soak for about 10-15 mins, then used a scrub brush to remove the green algae.

Rinse with water. Hose with nozzle or partial finger block or slight compression force on hose exit will be better because it gives more throwing force on the scrubbed surface, thereby giving a algae-free surface. (You need to scrub the surface properly after the oxygen bleach solution soaks to have an excellent result).

I hope the above procedure helps.

Agriculture / Re: Please Assist Me To Source For This Sewage Pump ( Used Or New ) by geepoul: 10:29pm On Jun 28, 2015
It would be difficult for you to get a sewage pump driven by PTO, your best bet would be to buy a sewage pump and fabricate a drive to crossover to PTO. Sewage pumps are available at Coker Orile in Lagos. At which part of the process do you need the pump? If it is to load your tractor I know a farm in Ibadan that can load you very easily

@phoenix, plz what kind of fence did you do? How much did it cost you?
I just got 10 plots of 60*100 for my farm and each time I think of fencing it, my heart skips.

That should be my next year project but I need to know estimate of what am saving for.

Slowly but surely, I will get there.

I even have another challenge, after I bought land for my farm, estates are springing up in the location , left right and centre. I just hope I won't have issues with them in the long run.

The only way not to face problem with the community is to pack the birds manure and go dump somewhere else like twice a week otherwise you would go the way of many poultry farm. Ask around a lot of poultry farms had closed down or relocated because of this issue. The irony of the situation is that most of the times the poultry farm normally get to the community first

Don't throw their prices away they could have considered many things as I have given you a back of the envelope estimate rather scrutinize it before coming to a conclusion. If you make this kind of investment in building I would suggest you go for automated cages. The building could house 25,000 - 41,000 birds. Facco is good an Italian company, you can also try www.hellmannpoultry.com

Many thanks for your response, I have been quoted in excess of 10 million naira.

I have been given the list of material required and was told source them then the company wanted around 500k for supervision because I told them I have my own labourers working on site already.

I am in the process of getting the prices for the list that was given to find out the cost.

Will keep the house updated on my progress. If anyone is intrested in the list I'll be happy to post it.

Also has anyone ever heard of a company called Facco, they supply cages, both automatic and semi automatic cages.

I am thinking of using them for my cages.

Many thanks.

Hello House,

I stumbled upon this thread on Friday and took me up till now to catch up. Read every page till the last page, I must commend everyone that have contributed so far.

So here is my story, I have been working on getting involve in poultry farming for a while now and have been working diligently to achieve this.

Land purchased about 11.5 plots somewhere in ogun state fenced it all around.

Just finished the staff quaters and the office block with two security houses. As well all know it's capital intensive.

I had this grand plan of going full scale commercial but having read through this blog I'm rethinking my strategy.

The next phase of my project is constructing the pen itself, which up to date seems to be the most expensive single construction yet.

The proposed capacity should house about 13500 birds. Of course I'm not starting with that much. I'm just thinking long term.

So I've been given the dimension of the pen. What I need to know from the house is, how much realistically should this pen cost?

The dimension is length 80m, Width 12m and height 3.5.

Many thanks.

Prepare for 8 million naira
