Politics / Let's Make Nigeria Work by generalazazi: 2:38pm On May 03, 2013 |
Nigeria.....an imperfect bride looking for a perfect husband. The challenge to overcome is the illusion that change will start from the top. I believe we all should know by now it aint gonna happen....never. I get the impression that a good majority of our people could easily be compared to the biblical Jews, waiting for the messiah. And just like the Jews, we have a preconceived notion of whom and what our ‘savior’ shouldn’t be. We really haven’t figured who and what he should. And just like the Jews, we have resorted to prayers, fasting and all manner of supplications in a bid curry divine intervention. It seems the similarity with the Jews ends here unfortunately. For one, we are told the Jews had ( and still have a special covenant with God); ours is by faith and extension. The last time I checked, no Nigerian (or group of Nigerians) have been given the special divination of the coming an all conquering savior. To put it succinctly, no one is coming to deliver us. Have you for once sat down to imagine what it will take to lead a nation like Nigeria? I do sincerely believe that we get the chance to lead everyday in many ways……even when GEJ is not our initials. Every time we refuse to lead in our own little way(s), we forfeit the right to complain about those who are constantly on the headlines for whatever reason. There is a mini Nigeria in front of us every waking moment of our lives. We are a GEJ in our own rights. Lest we forget, the chances of one of us leading Nigeria anytime soon (‘cluely’ or ‘cluelessly’) is 1 in 160+ million. That’s a staggering odd. Can we start from our own houses with our wife(es)/ husband(s) and children or our compounds and streets, with our neighbors and co tenants. Can we begin to lead In our churches, mosques or workplaces with our co earthly travelers? Can we do one good deed a day for Nigeria? We basically have to earn the right to complain. Do we still need to be reminded of the immense powers that we all posses? Aren’t we all suppose to walk on water and float on air? What part of dead faith without works do we not comprehend? Are we hoping to literally move Mt. Everest for real? Do we have to be and or/waiting to become a Jonathan before we help build our nation? Haven't we turned ourselves into a nation of whiners? All I am saying is stop the endless bickering and whining if you cannot do your bit when the chance presents itself every day. Stop elevating 'Monday Morning Quarterback'.... (Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda) into a religion……I’m not preaching, I’m just pissed; my mind is dithering and I feel dissed. How could we be so individually blessed but so collectively diseased? How could we be so rich and yet so impoverished? How could we be so free but feel so besieged? There’s got to be something we can do as a people……..I pledge to Nigeria, my country. |
