I don't know if what I am about to write gets on your nerves, if it does I beg for your pardon.

Rather than put this up here, why don't you form a youth group with the aim of building a food bank in your area, just like the OP did.

Inform and carry along the elders in your area - believe me there are still a lot of people that would love to help, but need people they can trust, and with organization and coordination skills to make it work.

In doing this, you will help yourself and others in the same predicament.
You will be seen as a hero in your community, because something good happened in the area through you.
You will be seen as a go-to person when issues emanate in your area.
You can even get a more reliable job because of this gesture.

I can go on and on to tell you what you stand to gain, if you decide to take the bull by the horn.

It may not be easy to start, but just start.
Tell the elders and youths what the community stands to gain with a food bank.
Tell them what they should get ready to face, if they decide not to be their brothers keeper.

It may not be easy initially, but the truth is that it is doable.
Start and you will see that you actually the person limiting yourself on to the path of your greatness.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

NB - You can show your community people this thread to let them know that others are doing in their community.

There is a saying that to stop an addiction you have to replace it with another addiction.

Albeit, the replacement must be a positive/good one, so that you don't go from frying pan to fire.

That said, which skill/hobby/expertise have you always wanted to develop? Pick the replacement addiction from it and soar high.

Enjoy your day.

We should be thinking of the solution to the pandemic not engaging in blaming the government at this point.

Stay at home and be safe.
If curse, blame and verbal abuse were instrument for national development, Nigeria should be one of the greatest in the comity of nations by now.

Check out the solution versus verbal abuse comments here. Can we develop as a nation with a curse, abuse and blame culture or mindset? I doubt it.

Remember, solution-driven countries are always at the fore-front, and it is human minds that brings about solution.

The narratives on the reactions of people to hunger during this inevitable lockdown is getting nastier by the day.

I like what @judgementyard said in one of the threads - he said "the have nots will be forced to get what they want from the haves".

A food for thought - don't you think in your community/area/ward, despite your claim that you don't have to help, some people still see you as somebody who has it all?
When the have-nots need to fill up in your area, where would their gaze be?

Let's start caring in our community.

Cheers.

Though I am not a prophet neither an alarmist, but I foresee that if help by the government or within ourselves does not come:

1. Some people will definitely go hungry
2. To abate their hunger, some will do the unforgivable, like breaking into their "neighbour's" house to get their fill. It will be 'your life or your foodstuff' kind of a thing.

Unruly behaviors and suicidal topics are already gracing the front page because of the lockdown

Do you think you will be able to close your eyes to sleep, despite all you have at home?

A lot of things, unimagined, could be an aftermath of our negligence.

As for me, I have identified two families around me that I would support throughout the period of lockdown.

I started that today.

Help may not necessarily be in cash. Your own help could be in;
1. Organizing a small market for your area where people can get their foodstuff needs.
2. Cooking extra food to give to the poor or vulnerable around you.
3. Be there on phone for people who need to wade off boredom, depression or it's Iikes.

Nigerians are intelligent people, I know we can come up with a thousand way to help.

Let us hear from you on how we can provide the needed succour at this trying time

If curse and verbal abuse were instrument of development, Nigeria will have been one of the greatest in the comity of nations.

Is it not high time we ditched all curses, abuse and blame game, especially during this Covid-19 crisis, and rather be an instrument of succour to your ward/community/area?

A lot of communal/community efforts are on-going in the countries we are praising, with or without their government intervention.

I do not hold forth for our government in this crisis, but be reminded that the lower class and the vulnerable ones within us will feel the burden of this impasse more.

So what can/will you do in your area, in your own small way, for your immediate surrounding/ward/community during this lockdown?
