Health15 Tips On How To Be Happy Instantly! by GeniusMultimed(op): 12:56am On Nov 15, 2013
15 Tips on How to Be Happy Instantly!

Happiness is not something to be searched for; it is something to be created. Here are some ways to take control of your mind, raise your baseline level of happiness, and even inspire others in the art of “how to be happy” – starting right now!

Raising Your Baseline Happiness

Everyone has a genetically predisposed baseline level of happiness. That doesn’t mean you were born to be grumpy! It just means that you are generally at a certain level of happiness and you fluctuate from that baseline – up when you’re happy, down when you’re sad. But you can raise that baseline with some self-work.

Begin with a choice to be happier!

1. When something/someone makes you angry or upset, ask yourself, “why am I allowing this to destroy my good mood?” You can’t control the behaviors of others, and you can’t always control what happens around you, but you can choose how it affects you and how you respond. Learn to master your emotions with a daily meditation practice. During meditation, allow yourself to feel an emotion, and then choose something happier to think about. Don’t deny your emotions – that would make life boring! As soon as the initial rush of the emotion passes, pull your thoughts away from the source of your unhappiness.

2. Follow your bliss and intuition. Following someone else’s path can be a huge source of unhappiness. Do what you love, and say no more often to things that don’t feel right. If you grew up with certain ideas of what life should be like, careers to pursue or life choices that don’t ring true to you, don’t follow them. Be true to yourself.

3. Look on the bright side and be grateful. Look for the silver linings, hidden blessings and unexpected benefits in all difficult situations. This gives you a different perspective and you’ll be less likely to let things upset you. Be grateful for everything. Appreciation for the good things comes easily, but be grateful for how difficulties enrich your life! Every day as you drift off to sleep, name five things to be grateful for that day.

4. Have a goal or purpose. What’s your reason to get out of bed every day? Hopefully for something that makes you feel alive! Set a goal that excites you and give it some effort every day! Think about the last time you accomplished something that challenged you. Remember the process and how happy you were…

5. Money isn’t everything, but lack of enough money to meet basic needs is a HUGE source of stress and unhappiness. Ideally, you love what you do and you get paid well for it. If your job isn’t inspiring but it pays the bills, spend more of your free time doing what you love. If you don’t have a job, be open to the unexpected. Be grateful for the valuable lessons that lack of money brings including the opportunity to live a simple life focused on what’s important… and keep your eyes open for a better situation!

6. Stay uncomfortable. This may sound counterintuitive, but getting too comfortable will quickly bore you and decrease your happiness. You know when you’re really happy – when you’re doing something you’re passionate about, something that challenges and inspires you. So go do that!

7. Socialize. Even if you’re naturally shy, seek out a few close friends or family members. Be with people. Humans are not meant to be solitary creatures! The happiest moments are often spent with people who share the same interests and values. Join clubs or meetup groups, or just hang out where people do what you love to do.

8. Smile more. A smile is more than a change in facial expression – it’s a physiological phenomenon that makes you feel happier, even when you’re in the depths of despair.

9. Forgive. You are the one choosing to carry the emotional burden of something that someone did. You don’t have to condone what they did, but you can let it go. You can relegate it to your past and release the burden.

10. Meditate. 15-30 minutes of silent contemplation with Omharmonics every day will make you happier. Meditation:

stimulates the production of feel-good hormones.
teaches self-awareness of thoughts and emotions; over time, you’ll learn to choose thoughts and emotions that are more pleasing to you.
gives you a chance to reflect on things that happened and choose a different interpretation based on a different perspective.
increases activity in the part of the brain associated with happiness and positive emotions.
teaches you to be present in the moment, when you can’t be worrying about the future or stewing about the past.
encourages non-analytical, non-judgmental thinking. Whenever you judge something, you create the potential for unhappiness. Think about any event that made you unhappy and look at it from a non-judgmental point of view. If it rained on your wedding day, did the rain ruin your wedding, or did your attitude ruin it? It’s how you look at things that matters!
11. Derail downward-spiraling thoughts. If you are angry with yourself for doing something stupid and you say, “I always do stupid things!” – instead of agreeing with that automatic knee-jerk statement, challenge it! Do you ALWAYS do stupid things? Of course not! Challenge your automatic “logic.”

12. Discover and work on your strengths and passions. You are good at certain things for a reason. They are closely tied to your life’s purpose. Find and participate in activities that enhance your strengths and fuel your passions.

13. Practice random acts of kindness. This makes both you and the receiver happy!

14. Live simply. Focus on what’s really meaningful and important, and leave the consumerist rat race to others.

15. Take care of yourself. Good health lets you enjoy life so treasure the incredible organism that is your body! Nurture your spiritual, mental, physical and emotional aspects.

You can’t experience the highs without having the lows to contrast them with! Make small changes here and there, and you’ll raise your baseline happiness gradually and noticeably!
